    stunning monitor, good price

  • +2

I have two of these. Great monitor.

    • Do these have display auto-detect? the 27s don't 🤔

    • +3

I use two for work. If you have them side by side in landscape you’ll need a deep desk to set them far enough back.

      • +1

Yes I have that problem too. I use the clamp and because of the folding arms, I can't get it further back compared to a regular monitor. I'm just sitting closer to the screen now /facepalm

      • I'm going to just have one, so I won't have an issue pushing it back? My desk isn't the deepest

        • +1

You’ll be fine with just one and a regular desk.

It’s only an issue if you have two, because the combine width in landscape mode is huge.

          • @spicygastropod: It happens to any 32inch monitors.

            • @aec: I've had monitor arms before and I just attach it out to the side so I can push the monitor right back

  • Damn that's a good monitor arm.

  • +2

60 Hz is fine for most games, the only real disadvantage it gives is for fps games like shooters.

    • +2

60Hz is probably not good enough for any modern games which involve skill-based play, as input lag is not just an issue for FPS.

This isn't a problem if you're using a CRT, but I'll leave it at that.

      • +2

It’s been good enough in the years between nowish and 20 years ago when everyone was using 60 Hz LCDs. But “good enough” is very subjective.

        • +1

candles were good enough before we had electricity. but to your point, good enough is subjective

    • +1

I upgraded from 4k 60hz to 1440p 165hz monitor around 18 months ago. I think 60hz isn't very bad for gaming, but not good enough in 2024. I prefer 90fps+ even AAA game, it's much smoother and responsiveness. If I already has 60hz monitor, i can live with it. If i am buying a new gaming monitor, i will only consider 90hz+ monitor. eg. If you never watched 4k (BD), you probably happy with DVD. Samething like that for 60hz gaming.

      • I think these days even desktop use people want 120+

  • +9

also capable of performing the fabled Monitor Blade Storm: https://cdn1.centrecom.com.au/images/upload/0174337_0.jpeg

  • +1

As mentioned extensively in other deals, the LG 32UN88 series are business productivity monitors. They are not intended for gaming as the refresh rate is only 60 Hz. The main reason you would choose to purchase this monitor is because it comes with a very good monitor arm (that has built-in cable management), and very good colour reproduction.

A little credit of the OP would be nice

  • +1

Any reason to get this, when the newer model of this has been cheaper?

    • +6

When I researched the differences between the two models awhile ago, I concluded that the only difference is literally the colour of the back. If you are fine with white, then get the 32UN88A.

The white looks good in my opinion

      • Thanks, not much difference then.

        • +2

Pretty much. I went a bit more into detail as to why I think there are two models here

I own two of the 32UN88A model, they're great monitors

          • @thisusernameistaken: Thanks, I always wondered why my Breville Oracle was a weird gloss black colour you could only get at JB HiFi

          • @thisusernameistaken: I got the 32UN88A from OW for $498.
Do you think they will price match /beat even though the model numbers are different?

I'm guessing Amazon will join in soon.

            • @Lord Ra: It would be the exception, not the rule if they price matched a similar product but with different model numbers / SKU

  • The product model is 32BN88U-B. What's the difference between the 32UN88 series?

  • Been considering the Dell 32 for a long time, I barely game and if I do my hardware can probably only handle 60Hz most the time anyway. Is this LG a no brainer then?

    • LG Ultrafine screens are better than Dell IMO

    • It depends on which Dell 32-inch are you looking at. This LG uses BOE panels. The Dell U3223QE with IPS Black is a better panel. I don't know about panel models on the P and S series. Probably neck to neck with this one.

      • +1

If you don’t know about the panel models on the P and S series, you shouldn’t make the neck to neck comment.

        • S3221QS is VA panel. P3223QE is not officially available in Australia but you can tell from the retail price it will not be an LG panel. So probably BOE panel as well.

      • I am thinking of going the Dell myself for WFH purposes, and already have the U2723QE which has been taken over by daughter for uni. As well as the Ultrasharp colour calibrated IPS panel, the dell has a superior range of ports, much higher Usbc charging rate and kvm management when using it for more than one PC.

But it’s twice the price of this.

        • I'm talking about the gaming model that you get cheap refurbs of, the G3223Q. Price is on par with this, your trading out 144Hz for USB-C and the arm, I am guessing the colour accuracy a bit better on this LG too.

For me I think I am kidding myself if I think 144Hz makes much of a difference, I have a 144Hz 27" currently and if I change between 60 and 144 I can tell the difference if I pay attention, but I bet I would just get used to whatever I used. It's not like I'm a competitive gamer. I actually doing game much at all.

The arm is a big deal for me as I'd probably buy an arm for the Dell eventually anyway, so saving a chunk of money there.

Colour accuracy is kind of important as I am an amateur photographer, not a deal-breaker though.

        • dual LG probably a wiser move than 1 Dell :)

  • I actually find 120Hz on my current monitor a great improvement for productivity. I am normally not a stickler for super smooth movement, I play games at 30FPS…

    • Which monitor did you get

    • I have 144Hz at home and 60Hz at work, I can't tell the difference unless I move the mouse or windows around really fast and pay attention lol. Playing games at 30Hz gives me a headache, so I will not be buying a 30Hz panel haha

  • Is 4k on 32" good for coding at 100% scale or most people nee to put one 125-150%?

    • I need 125%, 100 is just too small for me but some people like it

    • Works for me at 100% scale, but YMMV. I can imagine it being too small depending on your eyes.

    • I put it at 200%… Just love it to be a bit bigger

      • Will that be like a 2k monitor? I'm currently using a 32 2k but want more real estate

        • +1

Could be wrong but I think you still get more real estate as you are only scaling the text, everything else will be smaller.

    • How bad is your eyesight today, and how much worse do you want it to be tomorrow?

  • -5

    32"… Too small imho.

Any better options, bigger and 1600 vertical rez or higher? Or do I have to jump to the lg 40wp95c ($1599.. yuck). Not OLED, it's for static business work

    • LG 43UN700-B

      • +1

Thanks for the suggestion. I run the equivalent Phillips at home. Being flat unfortunately it won't fit my corner workstation in the office

I didn't think anyone would suggest this, I love my Phillips but everyone else hates on it

Also the whole office would see what I'm doing :)

        • Haha I am a massive advocate for big monitors, LG 43UD79 at work and ASUS PG42UQ at home. Brilliant with Divvy software for managing windows.

          • @deanylev: Would love a 42/43 and/or a 49 untrawide if I wasn't in a 2 bedroom apartment. Moment I get a house I'm getting a giant monitor. If it's too big just sit further back :)

            • @bleeder: My PG42UQ fit on my small desk in my old home office, just couldn't have anything beside it 😅

              • @deanylev: Issue for more is desk width, if I get a wider desk in blocking the front door and obviously you don't want to be sitting too close to a 42

  • +2

Does anyone know how much power this outputs over USB C? My laptop needs more than the standard 65W

    • +1

This review (https://appleinsider.com/articles/20/07/31/review-lg-ultrafi…) has the specs as 60W. So not even 65W.

      • A bit annoying! Thanks for the info mate.

      • surely part of why they're clearing them out?

    • +1

What laptop have you got? You dont need full 65W output, 60w or even 30w will just mean it charge slower (which is better for your laptop battery anyway).

As comparison I dock my MBP 16" with same monitor and it charges quickly without problem.

      • My Laptop is an Ideapad with a GPU. A 65W charger will discharge, and more than that (when not the provided 100W charger) will get angry but still charge slowly.

Come to think of it maybe my current monitor isn't even 65W and is only providing 35 or so. I might be getting my wires crossed. Need to check again.

        • Yes my MBP comes with 96W charger as original accessory, but lower wattage charger still charge it fine (just slower). When you dock with the monitor, so long it charges it should be Ok, unless your GPU consume lots of power, but I think even at 35 or 60w, it still plenty.

          • @OZGE: Just did some searching and a helpful site (USBCTable for anyone reading) says my Thinkvision 24-h supplies only 45w which is half-encouraging. I'm not confident the extra 15w will make the difference, but I'm hopeful. It's a shame the standard issue chargers (e.g. my work laptop one) are 65W, so I can't think of a way to test it conclusively with the 60W. I'm not keen to take the leap for $500 in case it's no good.

EDIT: A quick Google and Reddit review tells me minimum for the IdeaPad Pro 9 is 65W. How annoying!

  • I can't tell - can these be mounted on a normal vesa mount? or is the arm 'built in"

    • no vesa, it clips in

    • It’s very similar to Dell’s clips in system fyi.

    • There are reviews on YouTube which show this

  • Looks like none in WA so will have to pay shipping?

    • +1

Wireless1 offers free shipping I believe.

      • Cheers, now I need to seriously consider this…

  • +1

It's a great monitor and very good for split-screen work. I switched from an LG 38" monitor, and this one is making me more productive without having to constantly move my neck from left to right. I can keep my head in the same position and it's perfect for just using my eyes to go from one corner to the other without tilting my head.

    • Thanks, that's really good to know as the whole time I've been thinking 38" is the superior form factor, I just can't afford one.

On the 38 wouldn't you just put a main window in the centre and then less important stuff to the left and right? Then you're mainly looking at the centre.

  • +1

One more question - is the C Clamp swappable (so I can get one capable of getting its jaws around my desk which is more than 90mm) but keeping what looks to be a high quality monitor arm? I assume not but just checking.

  • Thanks OP, grabbed one from my local Umart :)

  • Fantastic monitor. I got two of these for $420 each at Harvey Norman (post-face I hate the prick). Have them hooked up for editing and light gaming and they are awesome. Colour repro is great, power over USB-C works perfectly. Can't fault them

    • how you get them for $420!

      • They were on sale for I think 475 at the time on a promo through LG and then I was getting an insurance purchase that could only be used at Harvey Norman (don't ever go with Budget for insurance), so I got a laptop then asked for a further discount on the monitors. Just got lucky at the time more than anything.

        • Even @475 that’d make it the lowest price ever. Well done, and the entire OzB community has missed that from Gerry.

  • +1

this is a great wfh monitor, awesome colours have had one for a year, no major complaints.
I did expect more from usb-c hub on the back of it. it is basically only two extra hard-to-reach USB 3 ports.
The navigation joystick is a joke, with a punchline of the whole settings menu. you cant control anything with a single touch, but adjust sound volume.
also note the limitations of the arm. it does not go all the way down to you desk surface, leaving about a 10cm gap. expect similar distance in depth from the back of the desk to monitor surface.

I also have the smaller 27” version. same stuff applies. that one boasts 75Hz refresh rate, which is way nicer for docs and spreadsheets. but it also comes with the same arm, which looks heftier that on the 32”.

  • Seems expensive for the price for the hertz?

    • This one seems to have a slightly different model number.

      32UN880-A vs 32UN88A

    • Highly unlikely, the price is for the B model with black back casing, OW, Amazon, major retailers have the A model with the white back.

  • I hope they bump up the refresh rate on these business monitors. 144Hz also benefits general use, not just gaming.

    • I wouldn't mind 100Hz at least, after that I can't tell much difference personally. When I got new monitors at work I got 100Hz ones. Honestly I just get used to whatever I have though, if I have 60Hz I get used to it pretty quick and don't know any difference.

  • Out of stock/discount at mwave, umart, and wireless1.

Just got mine from Kogan, used the TCN Gift cards for another 9% off:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/860218

after they charge $16 for shipping brings the effective price down to $515
got $5.50 worth of Frequent Flyer points,
if i had something else to buy next I should have also bought their bronze booster to get $10 worth of credit profit:
    https://www.kogan.com/au/first-giveaways/
so maybe could be $500 if you value all those things.

    • Wow. Awesome
