I feel like the highlight is the Sony 77” A80L for $3820
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/sony-77-a80l-bravia-xr-ol…

    • That’s awesome for last years model!

    • +1

I haven’t kept up with prices much since I bought mine three years ago, but this is around the same deal as I got for my A80J then. I’m surprised they haven’t dropped a bit more by now.

        • +10

          Bro lives in 2015

          • @nikoris: At the top end, they are. Best processing in the game. In a world of streaming….

Mid and low? Better value options.

            • @Ademos: Yep, the A95L is still the best HT TV RTINGS have ever tested: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/best/tvs-on-the-market

              • +2

@1r4n14n: Im wondering why they dont mention any other TV when it comes to best home theater TVs, they have alternatives for all other categories. At least mention LG g4 that had better score for HDR movies (if G4 is not better)
They've also given the exact score to S90d and s95d, how is this possible lol

                • @nikoris: I can't argue with that. Their scoring system is quite arbitrary and inconsistent.

              • +2

@1r4n14n: Imagine getting negged for providing factual information. What's the matter? You can neg me but too afraid to say why? That's because you have NFI why. You're just butthurt that your shit TV didn't make the list.

              • @1r4n14n: This site being infested with tribal groups of fanboys around inferior brands, like AMD, is one of the saddest things that's ever happened to it. I suppose it's true that any enthusiast site that hits a critical mass online inevitably turns to pure arse.

                • @Ademos: It amazes me how you can't neg a deal without commenting but you can neg a comment without replying. Try and make sense of that.

                  • +1

@1r4n14n: Even better : Complain about obvious bias, known corrupt history / failure to deliver by store officials posting here, overtly political or mildly racists forum posts etc etc and the mods won't remove it. Say "we let users vote".

Except they allow unlimited upvoting, and cap negs at 5 a day.

            • @Ademos: Not a single review supports this opinion in 2024.

              • +3

@nikoris: Which reviews would they be? Wait until next weekend for the annual Value Electronics 2024 TV shootout event and then we will truly see objective results between Sony’s 2023/2024 A95L QD-OLED and LG’s 2024 G4 WOLED, and a winner decided and crowned by a panel of industry professional experts.

                • +2

@Cevolution: I agree. This is the only real shootout I trust and believe to be credible.

                • -2

@Cevolution: You make it sound like it's the TV World Cup Showdown while in reality it's just an event hosted by a retailer and they call people to judge what they see on screen. Much room for subjectivity there mate.
I googled last year's event and the results weren't shocking. A95l was the best TV by a hair and very close second and third were the LG and Samsung.

                  • +1

@nikoris: So if the LG G4 “wins by a hair” this year you’re going to keep your mouth shut then and not claim victory? That’s a good way to put it, because in the world of objectively evaluating TVs it essentially is. It sounds like you are attacking the judges credibility? It might be hosted by a retailer, however the professional experience of the multiple judges who have attended and participate in the event can’t be disputed, such as David Mackenzie from Fidelity in Motion, Stacey Spears from Spears & Munsil, and YouTube reviewer Caleb Denison just to name a few, especially up against user amateurs like yourself. Not one single review by 1 mere individual that you made reference to comes close the multiple professionals that come together for this event to assess the best TVs each year. Sony has won the VE shootout event the last 5 years in a row, even if LG finally win this year it won’t be much of an accomplishment and achievement, because Sony hasn’t released a new model QD-OLED TV this year, if Sony had then there is little doubt that LG would lose for a 6th year in a row.

                    • @Cevolution: The reality is that all top 3 TVs form these brands are really really good and you cant go wrong with any.
Sony has the better brand name because of the history obviously, but i'm happy to see other brands coming up in 2024 and being better in so many ways.

Is Sony better? Sure. Cheapest i can ATL see for 77" A95L is 8k, i'm sorry but their 'processing' isnt worth this hefty price tag. I can buy the LG G4 for 6.1k which is arguably a better TV all around.

Do you want to say Sony is 'best in the industry'? You do have a case but i cant justify the price tag, so NO, you don't get what you pay for.

                      • +3

@nikoris: You were the one arguing with other people about which TV is superior though not me… You have now changed this to “all top 3 TVs form these brands are really really good and you cant go wrong with any”.

I paid $6500 for 77” Sony A95L QD-OLED brand new from Harvey Norman at the beginning of December 2023 5-6 weeks after the model was released in Australia, a little over a month later Sony Australia decided to discontinue the model here (it’s still available in many other countries)… Sucks for all of the people that wanted one who held off for a better deal.

                        • -2

@Cevolution: You need to re-read the comments bro, don't come in here hot with your narrative.
Please follow the conversation and go back to the original post by msjb that i replied (sarcastically) to.

                          • +3

@nikoris: I read them earlier and there is no need to reread your comments, I comprehended them perfectly fine. What narrative would that be that I’m supposedly promoting? Out of the 2 of us, the only narrative I see has come from you… All I have said is that the VE 2024 TV shootout is next week, and that it’s going to be interesting to see how they measure up against each other objectively and how the judges rate them, and the fact that Sony’s TVs have won the event for the last 5 years in a row.

                            • @Cevolution: You sir are correct, i mistake you for ademos. I was the one that should have paid better attention.

To end things up, rtings has a95l as the better TV for upscaling content while LG has better low quality content smoothing.
It's sad that A95l is so hard to fine these days, i'm guesing it would have been a real war with the price it would have.

              • +1

                @nikoris: Rtings : https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/best/tvs-on-the-market

Sony TV supports the more popular Dolby Vision HDR, so you'll enjoy the most advanced HDR experience possible from almost any source. Sony's processing does a better job following the content creator's intent, so the brightness and colors of HDR content look the way they're supposed to.

Sony's fantastic accuracy and image processing.

                Moving on to https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/best/brands

It features the amazing processing capabilities that Sony is known for

I could go on, and on, and on. But what's the point. My point stands, yours does not.

The most recent, relevant models (that you haven't mentioned once) in the Bravia 7, 8 and 9 are better again. They remain king.

Also, they're the only one offering access to the highest quality streaming service in the world as part of the purchase. A private streaming platform. Far superior to netflix etc for said streaming on top of their processing.

                You do you.

                  • +1

@nikoris: Yeah, lets read that transcript shall we?

"watching LG inch closer and closer to Sony's revered processing year after year and each year I've had to say LG is getting closer but Sony's
                    still got them this year"

Your review also claims that QD-OLED can beat the Bravia 9 Mini-led for brightness, in his latest review, so he's completely and inexcusably a lying OLED fanboi apologist, and yet still puts sony ahead. In that review he admits it matches or beats the LG without motion smoothing even turned on.

                    • -1

                      @Ademos:

watching LG inch closer and closer to Sony's revered processing year after year and each year I've had to say LG is getting closer but Sony's still got them, this year though… …i've got to put up LG right up next to Sony

Bruh, you literally cut off the transcript to hide the fact that he LITERALLY said LG is right up there this year.

Also this is a non-issue in Australia, A95L is not even available.

                      • +1

@nikoris: He said this one tv is, and that before he'd bothered actually reviewing this years sony models. When he did, he admits the Sony is still the king and that's without a significant portion of it's processing even turned on, which he didn't bother to review, and it's still on par with LG turning on all the (lag inducing) fruit.

I'm blocking you now, there's absolutely no point.

    • Looks like that's mostly only display models, is that right?

      • If you're trying to look for C&C, yes.

    • +5

I love Sony but this TV is too dim, other companies made better TVs in 2024

  • +6

JB trying to sell the S90C for almost almost double (after 15% discount) the current Samsung EDU store deal.

    Do your homework first!

    • I agree. Despite not everyone having access to the portal, it goes to show how much markup there is.

    • +1

I remember in my Samsung edu cart, 77" S90C was only less than 3k for sure like $2800??
This was with the 5% first time buyer 's voucher.
So my attempt was price matching at local Jb hifi even if they would offer slightly higher than Samsung Edu. As I was still able to use tge 10% Jb hifi gift cards lol hahaha
Logically dropping around $2600 or 2700??

      • Outstanding effort.

  • What’s the best value for money 77” OLED? Buy now or wait?

    • +1

Black Friday often has the best sales.

    • Id wait for better deals. They had better prices right before the end of financial years, i'm waiting for these to come back.
LG C4 and S90D are really good options

    • +1

Wait for a decent discount LG C4 OLED, or buy now for a C3 if you can find any.

Sony Bravia 8 is overall a bit behind LG C4 according to rtings

And don’t bother with Samsung OLED TV. Their HDR compatibility is limited to HDR10/HDR10+ only. No Dolby Vision. Good luck finding some decent HDR10+ contents…

      • +1

Dolby Vision is overrated when no TV can display 10,000 nits peak brightness. I would take QD-OLED any day over WOLED.

        • If you have a panel that can do 10k nits, there is no point to do DV. See the comment below.

      • this is bad advice. dolby vision is only really that good and impactful when you are using a lower brightness panel. the s90d gets bright enough that it's irrelevant. dolby vision dynamically tonemaps to get the most out of lower brightness screens but the reality is qd-oled is just better. mostly the impact of the colour volume and overall luminance is better in small windows (2-4% or so) so it is definitely not AS huge as people make it out to be, but its still better than woled, especially the c4.

        • QD-OLED has its own problems and is not better in every aspect. One major issue is longevity, or burn-in. In the long run the pixels will not hold up the brightness but it depends on how you use it.

The other is inferior colour/brightness accuracy in near-black luminance. Although it can be said as a common issue in many OLED panels, I haven’t seen many reports/discussions focussed on LG’s recent WOLED/MLA-OLED models. See this discussion for details. This issue is also reported in rtings Sony A95L review

S90D is able to deliver peak brightness at just over 1,000 nits in 2% window, which may be enough for some contents mastered at 1,000 nits peak. But contents mastered at 4,000 (in turn, Max Content Light at over 1,000), or contents with larger bright areas still need tone mapping anyway.

Also, DV contents are mostly manually graded per shot, and you get the advantage of more accurate colour if watching contents in Profile 5, which features Dolby’s own proprietary and better colour space.

  • I want a deal on the 83" version.

  • Damn! I got the LG G4 55" for about $3500 not too long ago. Didn't know it would drop again so soon!

    Freaking awesome TV, zero regrets.

    • There was a price drop after I bought something from JB recenntly so I went back to store and they refunded me the difference. YMMV.

  • Damn why are 48" oled TVs so expensive now while all other sizes going down in price

    • +2

Demand. People are using the smaller sizes in smaller apartments, and as desktop PC monitor / console gaming replacements.

  • +1

I'm sorry but the TV 'deals' are shit this time around. Appliance Central price match gets you a batter price on most occasions…
