    a refurbished 2022 TV?
    Take my money.

    • +7

Everyone else is buying refurbished 6 year old laptops and old refurb headphones (XM4s are 4 years old now), so why not?

I know Sony support can be a bit shit, but anything refurb I've bought from them has been fine.

    • With so many people leaving negative feedback on their refurb and box damaged TVs…. Have a tip too.

      • +6

It's hard to find the real numbers though. People are more likely to complain when shit happens but keep their mouths shut when it's all good.

        • True. I just look at the positive FB % as my odd. Currently 96.5% which is a fairly good odd LOL

          • -1

@Buy2Much: Yeah, hard to be sure, but it's the TV's that get much of the negative feedback.

      • Got a boxes damaged x90l couple months back- basically brand new. The dent on the box is barely visible.

    • +2

People are buying older 2nd hand (refurb) cars at much higher price than $1000

  • Does Samsung and LG etc have a similar refurb program?

    • +1

Based on my previous experience with Samsung support for new products, I would not buy refurb from them, where the chance of needing support is higher. Sony may be slow but at least I had satisfactory resolutions with their after sales support.

      • +2

I wouldn't buy household appliances from Samsung new…

        • had an out of warranty washing machine by 3 months, still got it fixed by Samsung for free.

Never really dealt with refurbed TVs before but we bought this one on sale new and its a great TV for gaming/TV/Movies. Having had a few Sony TVs over the years I think there is a pretty solid chance that you are going to see any issues with the TV within the 12 month warranty.

    Negative things I would note:
    - Google TV is a bit slow and bloated. I used it in apps only mode for a time but then Google are dicks about disabling functionality when you do that so now we just use an Apple TV 4k (best streaming device in my view)
    - 2x HDMI 2.1 and one of them is the arc port. This is a non issue for me as I just have a PS5 to take advantage of this but it would be annoying if I wanted to put my PC in there or also had an Xbox like I did last generation.

I am doing the same, I hardly use the built in Google.

i have the older x900h and it has android tv, have to disagree my is super snappy. The sony tvs have more powerful processors then other brands like tcl etc.

      • +1

same. I've had my x900h for 3 years and never had any problems

        • +1

I also have an x900H for the bedroom, and the Android TV is excellent—not laggy at all.

      • +2

Isn't this information kinda redundant because its a totally different tv?

      • I had the x90e before this one and it received the new Google TV interface (which tries to do a lot more terms of recommendations and other stuff) and it really started to feel sluggish at that point. Not sure if the 900h has the same interface or if its just a different perspective.

For me I find the Google TV device from Google felt sluggish too. I had the Shield TV for a time and the older app driven interface it had always felt snappy. For me the Apple TV feels night and day better on my X90k to the point where I just leave the smarts off. You mileage may vary but as an actual owner of the TV in this post I wanted to provide my perspective. Not a lot I don't like about the TV but those 2 items.

Sony have some "lemon" Models. Buyer be ware in case this is one of them.

  • +3

Fantastic deal, won't get another 65" with HDMI 2.1 capable of 4K 120HZ on any other TV for this price.

I bought a refurb 75" X90J 2 years ago and it appeared brand new with new plastic new box etc. I assume an internal part was replaced. Haven't had a single issue with it.

I have this tv, amazing blacks. quality

  • +2

Sony are on the same level as Samsung for warranty support. TV 1 week out of its 12 month warranty they wouldn't do anything but offer 15% off a new TV. Never again.

    • +2

They tried that with me. When I kept pushing they upped it to 50% off a new TV from their own inflated store prices. When I started mentioning Australian Consumer Law they changed tune and I got a new model TV.

      • This is the way. The 1 year warranty is irrelevant.

    • Negging for this reason - their warranty - ACL support is atrocious and you would really struggle when buying direct from them.

  • Or spend ~$330 more and get a brand new OLED. This is a good indicator as to where OLED prices are heading. Obviously size is different but a worthy tradeoff.

    • +2

That's a great price, no doubt about it, but for some people spending 30% more for a smaller TV really isn't the best option. OLED is great and all, but size and price are 2 pretty big factors.

      • It's also 55" - If it were 65" at that price or under $1500…i'd go for it If I could

      • The elephant in the room is refurb vs new. Someone even admitted Sony's service was less than acceptable. I think price is not the only determinant factor when it comes to high cost products that can & do fail. Consumer law protection is worth its weight in gold.

        • The Sony warranty on the refurb is the same as new, so it shouldn't be a big difference either way. Whether that Sony service is any good in the first place is another matter, but it shouldn't vary between new and refurb.

I've had both Samsung and Sony's that have needed warranty work and I'd take Sony out of those 2 (Though neither were that great).

        • Does the consumer law protection applies to “refurb” products as well though?

I thought this was a way for companies to get around the consumer law protection by selling new products cheap and with less after sales support costs by labelling them as refurb products.

          • @ausbuysell12: Yes it does, hence I said worth its weight in gold, but things like age come into play when making a claim. In this instance you're buying a 2yr old TV, meaning if it fails in 4 years you might be lucky to have an ACL claim honoured compared to a 4yr old TV bought new this year.

      • We bought a 65" Hisense $882 delivered last month brand new with a 3 year warranty. Sure the Sony or Samsung might be better picture quality but we found the Hisense to be more than adequate.

I've bought expensive TVs, etc in the past but would rather chase value and keep cash in the bank these days.

  • thinking about the seconds XR85X90L, 1 year newer, 20 inches larger for 2399, thoughts?

  • Bought numerous Sony refurbs. All have looked brand new, with brand new sealed remotes. Boxes have looked like they went through hell on some of them tho. Highly recommend.

  • Damn warranty hassle with a non refurbished . Which brand has lowest warranty claims ?

  • 4 back in stock!

  • May be not "Seconds" if they can keep restocking (more than 10 now) LOL…

  • Bought one, took ages to arrive.

Box looked like it had been through 3 wars

Unboxed it recording the experience, plugged it in, picture was fine.

Moved it upstairs, wall mounted, set it all up……

And the audio is terrible. Sounds like only one micro speaker is working.

This is going to be painful I can tell to get Sony to fix this
