    Can you use EFTPOS online?

    • +7

You cannot use these gift cards for online transactions (or any other card-not-present transactions, for that matter). The only way you can redeem this gift card is by physically swiping it on the EFTPOS terminal in-person at a merchant that chooses to accept this as a payment method.

However, to fully answer your question, there are some online merchants where if you use a dual-network debit card (e.g. Commonwealth Bank Debit Mastercard), the payment may be routed through the eftpos network instead of the Mastercard/Visa network. From experience, Bonds Online and Appliances Online have done this.

      • +1

Stripe does this by default now too. So if you enter your Visa/MC debit card details on a service that uses Stripe to process payments, it'll use Eftpos instead of Visa/MC. Possibly why they dropped their fees in AU to 1.7% instead of 1.75%.

    $500 for $17.05 profit… no thanks…

    Thanks for sharing though.

    • +1

      Useful for Costco shoppers though

      • +1

HSBC 2% cashback is much easier. just do split payment

And don't need to worry about "woolworth dollar"

        • I believe Costco comes up with an error when you check out using the same card in the same transaction

When you try to split card, the operator will say to you that you can only use the same card once

          • +1

@Poor Ass: Been always able to split $90 in Costco
And pay using the same HSBC debit card (via Apple Pay)

            • @littlesoldier: oh then they just outright lied to me

maybe it's their form of liability avoidance if someone stole a card and kept tapping it for $ under $100

or did you do card once, apple pay once? or same card twice?

          • @Poor Ass: I've split transactions at Costco between multiple prepaid cards several times.

            • +1

@GoldCoastGiftCard: yeah that's no problem and I've done that too

they give you a warning that if you used the same card twice it won't work but it actually does

          • @Poor Ass: That's not true. I always use HSBC card at Costco, splitting bills to get <$100 and never had any issues

            • @pistachio: exactly it works but the staff warns you before you do it even if they don't know you are using the same card

        • +1

          Why not both?

        • +2

You can easily stack them if you want.

      • +2

Useful for anywhere that there are no surcharge for EFTPOS

        also Aldi

    • -2

Good for ATO payments but I don't think you can with these guys; no online purchases. Wait for vanilla card deals for that.

    • +2

Have $100k tax bill, I can save $3400, I'll take it.

  • +7

Can confirm this works to pay off ATO. You might need to contact them to get a barcode for auspost to scan. Also not all post offices are willing to take gift cards I’ve found, I had to visit 2.

    • thanks for sharing!

is there any surcharge with aupost?

    • you just say paying with EFTPOS and hope for the best

    • Possible to pay ato online with these?

      • +2

No. The gift cards in this deal do not support online transactions.

The commenter above is only referring to going to an Australia Post outlet with an ATO payment slip and trying to use the gift card in this deal as a payment method.

The one issue that the commenter above did not mention is that the ATO does not create payment slips for all ATO debts. For example, the ATO does not generate payment slips for HELP debts.

        • Many thanks

        • Any idea on fees that may be charged at Australia Post using this method? I have only ever made payments online via the AT Portal

          • +1

@Monkboo82: Eftpos payments at AusPost typically don't have fees. I've paid my strata using this method with no fee.

            • +1

@VinceNT90: Unless you meet a grumpy staff (usually older) at AusPost and kick up a fuss as if you are stealing their money when they find out you swiped an Eftpos gift card.

    • Probs better to just wait for Vanilla cards at this point.

    • Probs better to just wait for Vanilla cards at this point.

      • can easily convert them to be used like credit

        • Convert which to be used like credit?

    • +1

I used sticker to cover "gift card" on front side :)

  • could those cards be added into apple wallet? otherwise no thanks

    • +2

nah but upside is they can't be hacked

    • It’s eftpos card so it cannot be added to mobile wallet
It can only be swipe through eftpos machine

    • +1

      thanks for confirming!

I feel managing card balance and carrying additional physical card is such painful, unless I have something to take all balance together

      • I always use the balances at Coles doing split payment

  • whats the TLDR for which GC to use paying coucil RATES

    much love

    • +4

You should be able to use this one if your council accepts PostBillPay payments and you are willing to go in-person to a post office. Every post office I've tried accepts TCN eftpos cards, although I do try to hide the gift card text on the card in case the operator doesn't like it.

      • @cyan00FFFF Have you tried paying deft payments with this method too?

        • +1

I've done that successfully to pay my strata - no deft fee.

      • is it possible to split the payment if my Rates is over $500?

        • Never tried split payment before, but partial payments are definitely allowed.

          • @cyan00FFFF: thanks for the info… so I can do the first payment at $500 and then go again later to pay the balance

      • When you’re paying with these at the post office, do you just tap the gift cards to the machine, or do you have to swipe? Thanks

        • The gift cards in this deal can only be redeemed by physically swiping the card on the EFTPOS terminal. You will need to tell the staff member you want to use eftpos SAV as a payment method (and cross your fingers that the staff member will let you use an eftpos gift card as a payment method).

  • 3.41% profit is not bad especially when you can spend it anywhere EFTPOS is accepted

    • found that its pretty useful for paying for car service

      • -2

yep and topping up public transport cards… paying bills that would incur surcharge with cc

        and converting into cash

    What a deal !!!

  • -4

Too hard. Who still swipes anymore?

    • +5

      Tinder and Grindr users

  • Can you use these for online SRO payments? I don't think so? I'll probably just wait for the vanilla ones.

    • No you can't

      • Thanks Cyan such is life :(

  • +1

Need one to save my Amex in Aldi.

    Thanks OP.

  • +1

Can these be used to buy other gift cards e.g. AMPOL fuel gift cards?

    • Yes. I’ve transferred them during a 5% off deal at Ampol.

  • -1

Can you use these to pay towards an AMEX bill at auspost?

    • -1

Buy Eftpos gift card, get $17 worth of ER points, minimum $5 worth of Amex points. Use GC to pay off Amex bill at Auspost. Profit $22. Do it 100,000 times, earn $2.2 million, buy a nice property.

      What do you think, sir/ma'am?

      • +1

Don't forget $3 per transaction in person payment fee!

      • +1

You'll get a phone call from AMEX once you hit a few thousand dollars worth asking to explain your spending, then your account will be under review while they make a decision whether to close it or not.

  • Does Auspost allow you to part pay bills with the eftpos gift cards if the bill was for example $2,000?

    • Only if your bill allows it.

    • same question, want to pay the Rate bill but it's over $500

      • +2

I've paid a $1,200 bill using 3 of these eftpos gift cards, no issue apart from the annoyed look from the Auspost lady.

        • just worried the AUpost staff will easily know that I'm using a GC if I need to split payment

        • When you’re paying with these at the post office, do you just tap the gift cards to the machine, or do you have to swipe? Thanks

  • Can I buy it with Special gift- card Woolworth ?

    • I just bought 1x $100 restaurant choice in woolies using $100 special woolies GC. received my 10x points instantly. but supermarket usually don't accept split payment when buying their GC. best to go to cashier and check out with them and kindly ask them to split payment if you are using multiple payment method.

  • -1

How hard is it to buy 2x $500 of these in one transaction?

  • @WookieMonster is it possibe to use these and buy apple gift cards at coles next week as well?

  • did anyone try buying these using shopback supermarket giftcards?

    • +1

Someone tried in April 2024 and it was automatically rejected by the checkout.

      • On that basis, is the Category Choice Groceries Gift Card also expected to be rejected by the checkout?

        • +3

Yes, because those should use the same BIN when on a mobile wallet, so Woolworths would treat them as the same type of card.

          • @WookieMonster: do you have a link to WIKI page where it is all summarised with what you can or can not buy with TCN? Looking to buy apple cards with it next week

            • +4

@ozbargainerlife1: The wiki page tracks Woolworths and Coles, but the page is only intended to track prepaid gift cards where the supermarket in question has chosen to block that prepaid gift card when you are trying to purchase some gift cards in their stores. If you do not see a prepaid gift card there (e.g. Pocket Money gift cards), it means no one has reported it being blocked.

With regards to TCN gift cards at Coles, I have not used that type of prepaid gift card at Coles to purchase gift cards in nearly three years, but I suspect there is nothing in the checkouts to automatically block it as a payment method, as no one has reported this happening (either in deals or directly to me). However, if you have a staff member pick up on what you are doing and they choose to reject your TCN gift card as a payment method, you will have problems.

          • +2

@WookieMonster: Yes I can confirm they use the same BIN for mobile wallet DPAN. Not all issuers do matched BINs but Blackhawk definitely does.

          • +4

@WookieMonster: I field tested the Category Choice Groceries Gift Card. Can confirm it was rejected at the checkout. You were correct (as if there was ever any doubt.)

  • Can someone please confirms if the artist designed ones are also included in this promo? Thanks :)

    • +2

Woolworths calls the artist-designed version Eftpos Merindah-Gunya. That is specifically called out in the deal terms as one of the exclusions.

      • +1

Thanks- plenty of Merindah-Gunya variable loads one but not the standard version at a few stores I've checked.

  • anyone tried paying a $2k-ish DEFT strata bill with these cards at AusPost? How likely are they to allow me to split payment to 5 cards?

    • I tried to pay my WA CTP with an EFTPOS card one (the one with the indigenous design), and it was rejected by AusPost. When I found one who would process it, the machine rejected it.

  • +1

    Can see only $50 ones

  • can we use it to pay racv?

  • No stock in multiple Brisbane stores, even a "sorry, temporarily unavailable" sign in one

    • +1

I reckon the store hides them hey

There's no way the night before there were loads and in the morning all gone

      • +1

Will be interesting if stock appears the day after the offer ends

        • Yes as is typically the case.

They say it is to avoid people getting scammed. cough

        • Very poorly managed this time round

  • Can we use these to buy other gift cards at Coles/Woolworths like the Bunnings gift card?
