I mean they should be $1 each right? Last time I went through maccas I asked for a "dollar hashbrown" and got it.

    • Is McDonalds Hungry Jacks?
Standard Hash Brown prices are $2.90 at McDonalds, $2.50 at Hungry Jacks.
So this deal is essentially buy one get one free.

So this deal is essentially buy one get one free.

Buy one extremely over priced item, get one free, making the total slightly less overpriced.

    • I get 1 kilogram (thats heaps!) of frozen hash browns from Coles or Woolies for under $5.00
I just cook however many I need in the air fryer
Ready in 15 mins and without the unhealthy cooking oil or needing to leave home.

      • +2

The frozen ones are coated in healthy cooking oil then?

      • I do the same except I just fry them in a pan with oil.

    Seems expensive.

this seems ok. normal price is crazy expensive

        Thanks, agent joanna dark

Should not be more than $1

  • These used to be $1 only a few years ago, then Hungry Jacks got greedy like the Big M.
They don't taste quite as big as the Big M though, they get them either too oily or too crispy.

All the fast food companies have been getting too greedy (in America at least), so much so that they've had to reintroduce value meals and good discounts. The price for fast food was becoming untenable so people were deciding just to cook in their own homes instead

This is good for the consumer as this means they'll starting to compete on price again, rather than trying to squeeze the customer for everything they've got

In Oz we find good deals thanks to OzBargain. It has ruined me paying full price at these places. Today's 10 Tenders for $10 will officially end my KFC app redesign boycott

One thing that makes me irrationally angry is the McSmart meal. The name pisses me off and there's never anything in the special meals they bring out that's different or exciting. They just chuck a few different pre-existing products together at a bit of a discount and expect us to lap it up

All this tangentially related bullshit said, Macca's is the GoAT when it comes to hashed browns

One thing that makes me irrationally angry is the McSmart meal.

The worst part is that processed food is actually horrible for your brain. McSmart is such a pisstake.

    • taste big???

Last year I was paying $1.45 for one dozen eggs now I am paying $5 :)

    • yeah and last year was 1984

You know what's cheaper is buying frozen hash browns. Then you can just heat them up whenever you want. You wouldn't want to eat a frozen burger but a hash brown is a hash brown, they not doing anything fancy to them.

    • +1

I keep a bag at the office and just pop them in the toaster…

    • Yep. When I was young and had no idea I thought these were great value. The moment someone taught me I could just buy them frozen much cheaper these became terrible buys.

    • I think tastiness, deep fried tasier. Maccas > hjax > most frozen ones (unless deep frying as well).

Off top of my head, i think my preferences are Golden eye > mccains> coles homebrand / aldi (can't even remember if ive had a woolies brand one).

      • +1

Do you mean Birds Eye Golden Crunch?

        • +5

apologies for any confusion, I meant Birds James Golden Bond

        • This is my go to! Closest to Macca's, if not, the same product.

    • I haven't bought a fast food hashbrown for a while, I just air fry supermarket ones and are "good enough" … but there is definitely a step up with a good deep fried hashbrown 😋

  • +8

I would rather forego paying that much and get an 800g pack from woolies for $5.50.

    • This is the way

Everyone in here complaining how its not a deal, but not a single downvote, classic ozbargainers.

    • +6

We are respecting the rules (don't want to start gate keeping). It's "technically" a deal, just bad value.

    • +4

Unfortunately 'not good value' isnt acceptable as a neg

  • still shake for free before 1030am. no?
