High performing DAC+amp. Great when paired with the recent 6XX deal.

Audio Science Review verdict:

You get a superb DAC in the C200. The headphone amplifier is also quite clean and competent but just shy of the power in the highest tier products. I suspect the price will justify this (will update the review if not). Really, not much else to say.

I am happy to recommend the AOSHIDA SMSL C200.

        if you have DECENT onboard audio, not that much IMO…. at least not enough to spend $230 on

        if youre using shithouse ac97 or something lame like that… yes

        I have a SMSL SU-1 (DAC only, no amp) with my old powered JBL studio monitors and it’s been going great. I use it on the USB input, i had issues with the optical input not being detected. It works well on USB, something crazy like 384kHz, 32-bit.

        My motherboard output made a lot of noise, well, my video card really. Buzzing when scrolling etc. I had to have the amp in the speakers turned low with the PC output turned high (or the noise gets amplified as well). But with an external DAC/amp, the noise is mostly gone.

  Also, depending on your needs could be worth looking at iFi audio ZEN DAC V2 Headphone Amplifier & DAC for $299.
