Massdrop X Sennheiser HD 6XX Headphones US$169 + US$20 Shipping (~A$280 Delivered) @ Drop

660

Drop.com is having a Prime day sale, shipping to Australia is $20USD.

HD6XX $169, ~$280AUD delivered.
- The cheapest USD price in a while, unfortunately our dollar has been trending down.

HD58X $139, ~$235AUD delivered.

If you've already got a older pair, don't forget about ear pads, the foam in my HD58X lost its shape after ~2 years of daily use.
Earpads for 58x/6xx series $29-49USD.
The hybrid pads are nice, there are cheaper options on AliExpress but quality and fit varies.

  • Any working discount codes for Drop.com?

You can try making a new account and getting $10 further off, which would make this about as low as they've ever intentionally been priced.

Thanks, Got the 6XX for $179 shipped (transaction $265.15AUD).

    • Randy Marsh brings you Sennheiser head phone discounts and every single one comes with a gift from Tegridy Farms

  • Do I really need this? Been on the fence for years. Still got my pm3s. Cos if I get this then I need a qudelix… So tempting

    • Would probably recommend a better dongle these days, probably for less.

      • What a cliffhanger… Please recommended away.

          Onix XI1 if you're happy with using 4.4mm balanced/Pentaconn.

          • @jasswolf: Thanks. It looks good but doesn't have Bluetooth. Kinda wanted that so I can freely walk around with it. Yes I know the sq is not as good but convenience is sometimes important

            • @mit: Ah yup, not across that segment yet, hopefully it's getting updated with LC3Plus low latency and stuff like aptX Lossless.

          • @jasswolf: That’s a bit new, so may be a gamble. There are quite a few reports of USB connectivity issues over at Head-Fi.

Personally, I’m waiting for the dust to settle so we can see if these are hardware compatibility issues, or just software bugs that will be fixed in time.

          • @jasswolf: qudelix on sale at drop for roughly $160 delivered (+/- GST?) at the mo - so pretty similar price it seems - plus it has EQ…

      • There's not really anything better than the Qudelix if you need EQ + Bluetooth. The only thing it's missing is LE audio / LC3 support, but there's barely any receivers or transmitters that support it yet.

  • These are awesome kinda kicking myself for selling mine a few years back. Once you go wireless there's no going back, at least in my case haha.

    • I have a XM5 and these and as much as I LOVE the XM5s the sound quality is nowhere as good as the HD6XX. Having said that, I find myself using the XM5 more due to having to be tethered to anything

    • I'm sure you can buy them again for this price.

Different use cases, you are allowed to have more than one pair of headphones!

Almost all of the Bluetooth ones wouldn't sound half as good as a wired audiophile pair, but have other quality of life and convenience features.

  • This HD6XX or HD560S for $220 here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/856474?

    • +7

6XX is going to have better timbre and will scale further with gear. 560S is going to sound wider and image more precisely on basic gear.

560S will dig a little lower and higher, but might be a little sharpish.

    • Been wanting to try the 560S as I have the 6XX but some reviewers prefer the 560S (DMS comes to mind)

I was given an extra code by signing back up to Prime for a month ($20 off) plus $10 off for Zip, arrived today, decent for $190.
Oh, but just checked - HD560s back up to $246 and it's US stock rather than local.

Need to do a full comparison with and without amps to see what the go is.

The 599 is another step down but good value, down to $130 local stock, and maybe a good option for gaming too (*edit - NB - but no built-in microphone). https://www.amazon.com.au/Sennheiser-Open-Back-Special-Black…

  • unlike most headphone users, I have ears on the SIDE of my head. 🧶

    • I genuinely want to understand the joke, could you explain it?

      • my sense of humour is broken. it was just literally funny to me at the time and nobody else.

the reason it was so funny because it is meaningless and absent. there is no purpose to it. the longer I am alive the more nihlistic I become.

the ball of yarn basically means it rolls around and unravels only to have nothing at the end of the string.

Ozbargain: the abode of scholars and philosophers :)

  • Probably the best couple hundred bucks you can spend in audio but you absolutely NEED an amp (e.g. an ifi hip dac works well and is still portable) to hear the potential of these.

Highly recommend getting the 58x over these if you're going to be running these on regular consumer 3.5mm jacks (e.g. a Nintendo switch, an apple USB dongle, etc) as it genuinely sounds good out of low powered devices, unlike the 6xx which is going to sound quite dry.

    • +2

Does using an amp to 'hear the potential' involve damaging levels of volume?

      • Nope, it's not about volume it's about sound signature, the headphones actually sound different when well driven.

  • Should I cancel the Philips Fidelio X2HR from the other deal and get this instead? Hmm…

    • You'd be comparing apples to oranges.

      Easy listening = HD 600

Gaming = X2 (great bass for immersion in war scenes)

      I have both.

    • Depends, do you like bass? X2
Do you prefer neutral tonality? This

      • +1

Thanks peeps. I'm sticking with the X2. Me likey the bass, wanna ease into the world of open back headphones, think I'd enjoy the wide sound stage, although I do like picking out instrumentation… Watched a few YouTube reviews which confirmed both your suggestions.

  • Cheap, recommended.

Been contemplating these for a VERY long time so I finally took the plunge.
Ordered them with the Qudelix for a total of $415AUD shipped.
Shipping with Drop is not the fastest but I think this is a very good deal considering how the 6xx usually go for over $440AUD and the Qudelix 5K for over $200AUD

  • Brilliant headphones, have been using these for years in tandum with my ATH-M50's. The replacement cables are always sold out though which is driving me nuts.

    • The replacement cables are always sold out though which is driving me nuts.

I'd just buy a third party cable. I don't recall the build quality of the original cable being particularly good either on the original HD-600, but maybe it has been improved with these.

      • Robust but nothing special, single sided would be much better and less annoying.

  • Has anyone tried out the 177X GO or Ether CX Closed Back? Interested to know how they sound :)

  • How do the HD 6XX compare to the HD650

      • I was meaning more in tuning and sound profile but this might not be the best platform for that kind of comparison, thanks

        • Was just saying you'll find more answers by doing a quick search, it's literally asked every single time these are posted, and hundreds of times on other forums too :).

          • +1

            @G-rig: No worries, I’ll have a look.

  • Anyone familiar with the shipping time on these? I remember having to wait 3 or so months back when I bought the 99 Noir in 2019, so I'm hoping waiting times have changed since then. Would love to get a pair but if the wait is long then the HD 600 seems to make more sense to me.

    • Just grab them cheap as (I paid 350$).
Allow 2-3 weeks (Australia Post can hold them up at the end).

  • Price is at $179 now. Use the $10 new acc coupon to get to $169.

  • Has anyone's order been shipped yet? I ordered the HD58X on the 18/7. Reached out to support and all they said my order is processed and can ship anytime now….

    • Yep, mine shipped 4 days after ordering via DHL

    • I ended up ordering the hd58x instead of the 6xx to go with the Qudelix 5X as I need it to last me a whole day on bluetooth (used for WFH + gaming) and the HD58x soens't need as much power from the DAC.
Got the shipping notice last Monday but nothing moved until yesterday, expecting delivery late next week.
I have ordered a few things from Drop and their international shipping has always been pretty slow. I know they use DHL but it seems to be the budget DHL as all other stuff I get shipped from overseas with DHL gets here within days but Drop is awlays weeks…

    • I’m experiencing the same thing but from another online purchase (not DRop).

Ordered 22/7 and shipping says 7-11 days .

all the order summary says when clicking through email is “processed/recieved” with no tracking updates. made an account and logged in to view and says the same thing.

weirdly I read feedback that says buying from a few places recently seem to be the same. no tracking and item takes over a month to arrive. maybe stores are trying to cut costs with the cheapest sea shipping possible? (Like typical on Aliexpress).

to be fair I selected free shipping option, but glad I did because other feedback says they paid express and it still took over a month (most likely they just take the extra as profit and use cheapest shipping anyway).

      • so.. yeah I think I am in the same situation. but it's honestly getting frustrating how the experience of buying items from genuine companies is getting worse and worse. the world is already bad as it is and you can't even shop anymore.
on top of this got something from massive aussie store and they havent even activated the product properly so I am stuck with nothing. I swear this kind of thing has gotten more and more common since covid.
the only company/store that seems to consistently try to fix things or give you a quick alternative when things go wrong is amazon. I swear all other stores are often making mistakes having issues and giving customers a very hard time when they just want what they paid for.

    • My 6XX is meant to be out for delivery today by DHL, but not looking likely at this rate..

  • I bought these again after selling my first pair a few months ago, I honestly don't know why I sold them lol

Drop shipping wasn't too bad, it arrived exactly 2 weeks after I got the shipping email (25th-8th). They sent with DHL eCommerce and then once in Australia it was handed over to Aramex.
