Doesn't HMB only take up 64MB?
I have no clue tbh. Asking here coz I am yet to look into it, but I vaguely remember and emphasis on DRAM cache SSDs for gaming
Yes, by default only 64MB. On-board DRAM does more things than HMB (not just store FTL cache, but also helping controller to do garbage collection and more).
It's just that consumer level PCIe 4.0 SSDs are fast enough at burst, so that most models won't have on-board DRAM.
I have the 500GB version on my Legion 5 Pro gaming laptop running Linux with 32GB Kingston Fury 3200Mhz.
I do not use it as gaming platform but a high performance computer, this thing can write and read fast.
Linux boots up within seconds, 1G internet goes brrrrrr downloading stuff to it.Do keep in mind tho, no matter what SSD/NMVe you buy, they do have writing lifespan so if you are gonna write a lot of data everyday like a lunatic, no SSD will last as long as a HDD.
Every time I see WD Black I think SN850. 18 months ago the 2TB SN850X would drop as low as $180 or so.
Any recommended heatsinks (for PS5)?
I have this puppy on my Legion 5 PRO gaming laptop but the 500GB version.
I do not play on it coz of my Xbox but did try some Steam games, heavy tasks, CAD, I have added 32GB 3200Mhz memory to it, boy, this thing can write fast.I often prefer to turn my laptop on, it is running Linux instead of the nightmare Windows, than grabbing my phone. It is that fast.
I copy files between my laptop and my Android phone and it goes brrrrrrrrr
1G internet also goes brrrrrrrrrrrrrr
No DRAM cache, would there be much impact with the HMB as opposed to DRAM on my system? Using 16gb of DDR4 3200Mhz Ram currently, primary use case for drive would be gaming
