To be exact, there's only the one upgrade in Android version.

The phone will still get bi-monthly security updates for three years ending Sept 2026, though Motorola have been having trouble sticking to the bi-monthly schedule. Regardless, we still have over 2yrs of security updates which is what counts.

If Android version updates are important, I would look at the Samsung A55 instead… 5yrs of updates incl the next 4 versions of Android I believe. This was $399 from Amaysim up until 30 June.

  • Would this be a good work phone?
using teams, emails, social media and call clients about x20 a day if not more I live and breathe on my phone but I'm sick of using my personal phone and need to get a new phone to separate personal and work phone. I missed out on my opportunity to get a phone with the company as I joined up with them (2 days off)….

Looks like from now on G54 $199 and G84 $299 is the new RRP, JB has updated the pages and no more sale prices. Bought the last G54 yesterday in store for in law, now hoping G84 going for $200 before 3G shutdown for myself!

  • I bought the G84 on the weekend. Planning on returning. The phone has poor Bluetooth volume (approx. 30%) less than when connected via wired earphones and android auto. It also has a bug where android auto won't start unless I unlock the screen/phone. Google searches are suggesting these issues won't be fixed as there are only going to be security updates moving forward.

For your uses, yeah, I would probably avoid the G84. I'd personally stick with the likes of a midrange Samsung or Google for these features to work best… The Samsung A55 was a good buy a few weeks back at $399 from Amaysim. I see the Pixel 8a is going for under $700 atm which is probably the better buy.

      • I took the plunge and purchased a OnePlus Nord CE 3. Hopefully its a half decent phone like my old realme 6 pro was.

        • Hope it meets your needs and you get good mileage out of it.

I visit my folks tomorrow to set up Dad's A55. I'm hoping lasts long enough to get the most out of the 5yrs of security updates.

Ouch, everybody has put the price up. Most are $449 now.
I thought it was going to be a permanent price the $296. Just as well I got one before.

    • It was a sale set to end on 10th July. The only phones that have a reduced permanent price are previous generation flagship models.

Thanks for mobileciti/ebay post, I got one from that sale. It's a really, really nice phone for the price paid.

For under $250, it's amazing value.

        • Can you share mobileciti discount link?
          Thanks

Not gonna see a permanent price drop until the replacement models come out… unless the replacement model is sold for a much higher price.

Is there any platform offering below $300 for g84? Or any anticipated deal in next few days. Would really appreciate any help. Must order a new phone for my mum, she broke the old one.
Was waiting for some funds to come before I ordered, now sale is over and I really thought this is a great phone.
On another note any recommendations on other devices under $300?
    Thanks
