    Superb g84 deal…

    • But it's still possible to grab it for ~$255 at bigW

    • +2

I bought it for $248 on ebay deal last month, very good phone

  • how about those cameras compare to say s22?

    • +8

      😂

      • wife only cares about camera, and i would like to have 1T microSD instead of spend 2K for those 1T flagship phone.

        • +2

The flagship level camera in the S22 is much better.

          • @shxhshzhz: guess i will have to remind her to transfer those media more frequently

    • +3

It might be worth reading the extensive "Gcam" chat in the last deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/853859

      • +5

Downgraded my self from S22 ultra to G84. After installing GCAM i dont see any difference in the pictures compare to S22 Ultra.

        • +2

The difference would be in low light conditions.
Also optical zoom is a big plus for me in Samsung phones, loving the 10x optical zoom on the s23U and another plus is the secure folder to hide those pictures and WhatsApp messages 🤣🤣🤣 without the need of a second phone

        • +1

Same here, I don't see a difference in photos between my wife's G84 and Pixel 8 Pro for most practical purposes.

The G84 is so much lighter and thinner, too.

          • @RedHab: Did you use your g84 with stock camera or gcam?

            • +2

@montorola: Yes, the stock one. If you zoom in the Pixel's camera is way better, low light slightly better, but for most people, I don't think it's worth paying 4x the price.

              • @RedHab: Awesome, thanks for justifying my purchase haha

    • +1

It is said GCam gives much better photo quality than stock

    • -1

      Think of it like this.

My old flagship Samsung Galaxy S1 from 2010 or whatever has better night shots than this, and similar daytime shots. (Keep in mind it was the best camera phone for the time.)

  • Does the G84 support eSim or is it physical dual sims?

    • +2

      dual nano

    • +3

Hammering the free Amaysim esims on the G54 with no issues: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/854734

      • +1

Love eSIMs in my $135 G54.
Grabbed the 120GB Amaysim FREE after cashback

          • +2

@FLICKIT: Is that you on your motorbike? Impressed!
Watched the Teaser - going through the water in Eyre Creek.

              • +1

@FLICKIT: Wise to head North - a bit cold back home❄

                Always enjoyed viewing your travels.
Will watch more of your vids later. Have plenty of FREE data!

                  • +1

@FLICKIT: Like how you have Teasers.
Easier to get into a longer vid, knowing what to expect.

Have watched Slow-TV on SBS. Can be relaxing & interesting.

  • +2

Motor 84 should be less than $250, too.

    • +4

      Why stop there ?

      • -1

        Strange that G84 deals still-continue: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15442646/redir ?

May be these neggers can shed-some-light: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15395574/redir ?

        • It seems that AU-retail-stock of G84 & G54 is still available & sort-of back to normal. Price is back to normal, with minor-discount only @ HM.

It'll be interesting to see what sales AU-Motorola will have as we get closer to Telstra/Optus 3G shutdown & G84 & G54 replacement models due within 6 months ish? How close will both model get close to 50% discount is dependent on buyers holding-out, eg potential-buyers have a 4G phone that can make-CALLs & hence NOT-desperate.

G82: may be Moto-AU is hiding the heavy-discounting by bundle it via package-deal. Will they make repeat the same mistake for G84, when they release the G85 model ?

Do not twist, it is upper limit, not lower.
Why it is upper limit here you go:
        Motor 54 ratio: 128GB/8GB: 16
        Motor 84 ratio: 256GB/12GB: 21.33
If $179.10 buys 16, then what should buy 21.33
        179.10 x 21.33: 3,820.203
        3,820.33/16: $238.79
Motor 84 should not be more than $238.79
add 10 bucks for crap features, still should be less than $250.
No more twist OK? even before me, maths bend you. cheers. IBT.

        • +4

If can't help making the observation that this is nonsense.

        • @IBendTrolls: it seems that you're responding to my message?

If yes, are we on the same-page ?

FYI, I'm only piggy back on a message that referenced-price…whatever you believe the price should be is your PERSONAL-preference & each-to-their-own.

        • @IBendTrolls you forgot about supply and demand.

  • Are these ATL?

    • +2

No, but it's the best price available as EOFY sales are over for anyone who missed them.

  • +1

Great specs for the price. Just don't expect stock Android to be anything like a Pixel.

    • +5

It’s not bloated, I’ve a G51 and wish android baked in most of motos gestures.

      Karate chop = torch
      Twist phone twice = camera
Zigg zagg touchscreen = split screen
      Three finger touch = screenshot
The list goes on (like no on screen nav buttons, side drawers, stock animated wallpapers omg lovely)….

      • +4

I miss the hell out of them now I have a Samsung..

        • Your software wont !

        • i have a samsung s10. We have features Pixel owners can envy… or envied for some years before they became Google features… These were or are things like:

Double press power button for camera.

          Multi window.

Toggle shortcuts in the notification panel.

Hotspot with the wifi (like a wifi extender)

Super Power Saving Mode (on the S5 at least) which turned your phone into an AMOLED black/white dumb phone, which enabled it to last for days.

      • The list goes on , (like very little software support).

        • Yout point is moot.

My G51 was essentially eol when I jumped in. I still receive security updates and it updated to its latest android from the beginning. Not once have I felt unsupported. At these prices you’d update the phone to get latest android os. Big deal, go pay top tier flagship price tag if you want latest os guff.

          • @Trumped: Latest software guff keeps you protected , and for your info , theres no need to go top tier to get ongoing software support

  • +1

Lets vote which one is a better bang for the price.

  • +1

Just for everyday use mainly FB, gmail & whatsapp, I guess G54 or G84 in law won't notice any difference?

    • +1

      They will 84>54

  • +2

bought one. 270 is cheepish enough and screens clear to view. Only thing i wish it has was wireless charging but ill cope.

  • Got the g84 from mobility. Not a bad device, screen is noice.

Hopefully the g84 and hold up to some ePSX and PPSSPP and backbone gaming with the remote play on PS4 and 5.

    • +1

Curious to know, anyone try run skyline or yuzu?

  • How is this compared to my Samsung A73? I got my A73 second hand really cheap a year ago and it's always lacked snappiness (probs due to one ui) and it's camera isn't that great anyway.

Would this be a good sidegrade? The G84 seems to be similar and better in most of the specs and I really like the addition of the 3.5mm headphone jack.

      • take all reviews as a guide…strange that the Moto G84 points have gone-UP in the last few months ?

    • +1

Lag is because too many apps running in the background. Install "Hibernator" app to choose which apps don't need to run all day. This app is powerful.

Also worth it to install "SD Maid" + "SD Maid Pro" (paid) to clean the rubbish from the system, clear app cache etc. (many features). Much better cleaning than Files by Google for example

  • I logged in and it said I'm a perks member, but how do I get the 10% discount?

    • Perks code sent to email.

      • Thanks, I never get these emails sent to me.

  • +2

Got a message that my current phone won't work when the 3G network is turned off.

    Will these phones work?

    • +3

These are newish 5G phones, so yes they will work.

    • +1

I get this too, even though I've messed with my phone to enable volte. I guess we will find out come the end of August, but it's good to keep an eye on deals like this for possible replacements

  • Well, we HODL but JB didn't do a coupon-less $149 deal.

Luckily I used my $50 3G trade in coupon with a further price match for an effective $147 price on 30 June… didn't want to gamble and waste time eyeing G54s any more.

    • Where did you get $50 3g coupon

  • +3

G54 is a cracking good deal for a really serviceable budget phone.

  • +1

I'm upset that the $179 JB HIFI G54 can be upgraded to android 14 but not the Amaysim one :(

    • Look on XDA forums. It can be done.

  • Nice deal

  • +2

    $199 or no deal

  • Does anyone have one of these? Does it get slow after a year or two of use?

I've found Sony experia does this, their moderately proced range ($900). My budget $700 samsung s21 fe is doing fine, no lag after 2 years use.

Oppo A-something was no lag as well for a budget phone.

    • +2

Both have been out for less than a year I believe, so you probably wont get a good answer…

    • Lag is because too many apps running in the background.

  • Just curious to know if OW will do a PB at $299 or $269.10?🧐🧐

    • +2

No PB as it's $297 at OW. $269.10 is a price after using a code which is not valid for PB.

  • Is this targeted? I didn’t get an email but they sent me a birthday voucher when it was my birthday, so I must have perks?

    • +1

      Happy birthday

  • Bugger it, I can't wait for samsungs unboxing. Just bought a red G84. I've had a stella run on my G51, which was cheap back in 2022 also with Perks and it was nearing eol.

  • Is this worth it because the cost per year when accounting for security updates is very high?
If I recall there is only just over a year left of security updates on the G54.

  • Perk code only $10 off, how you guys get extra 10%

  • +2

Man this g84 feels so lite in the hand compared to my g31, p6a and p7p

    • Same with the G54. My main is a s23u so switching between the two is very noticeable.

  • +3

The G84 is a solid phone. No regrets after upgrading from the Galaxy Note9. Was eyeing a S24 Ultra but think I am happy with the G84 and an extra $1200 in my pocket. Just as snappy as wife's S23 Ultra (don't game so can't vouch for that). The stock camera is crap but GCam is surprisingly good.

  • G54 for $149 perks @ JB was better previously

  • Thanks Op. I do have perks account. But did not received any code, so went to store and shown this posting and they gave me 10% off.

  • I'm thinking the Edge 50 fusion 256GB is only $539.

  • Is the G84 noticeably snappier than the G54? Ive got a G54 as spare phone and it seems a country mile slower/laggier than my daily S20 + 5g, let alone screen brightness.

  • Bought the G84 might as well buy the G54 for travel

  • +1

Android 14- and that is it. no more updates on these phones as per https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ES47Q0SABZA&t=179s
