Thanks OP. Bought for $49 with $10 perks voucher

I got 4 x C210's from Harvey norman for $116. They work great, only request is I wish there was a desktop app. Other than that no issues. Cameras are very good.

    • +2

you can use some open source app/services to stream your cameras to your pc/server. Tapo supports RTSP, and its easily to configure

      • +4

or run android emulator on windows and install android apk

      • Might have to look into this thanks

      • You can, but the initial setup requires the app, a Tapo account, sending your network info/ip/location etc to some random internet service that has probably already been hacked

        • So this is tangential, but I have a list of cameras I'm working on to find the best solution for me, and Tapo was on the list but is scratched out because I'm automatically ruling out anything that's got cameras on public websites. Ring, TP-Link, Netgear and so on can be found online, so I avoid them.

If you do it properly and wholly LAN them, then sure - but I was hoping to find a good all-in-one solution I could trust more.

      • +1

Yeah, I have these connected to Blue Iris (via RTSP) for motion detection, 24/7 recording and they have worked a treat for the past few years!

Also have blocked all network access except to my server so that they cannot access anything after the initial setup. (I did have to allow NTP internet access as the inbuilt time overlay seems to go whack if they can't connect to their NTP server)

        • Any walkthrough on how to set up? Very keen to set up myself but I have limited network knowledges.

    • +3

They support RTSP, enable camera account in the app then you can connect using some free software like ispy or vlc:

C200 is $39 at Amazon. As @cyrax83 said - they work great.
Had a Wyze cam for a while and the app constantly pushed their subscription plans. Tapo doesn't seem to care and local storage via SD works just fine.

    • Wyze is good and cheap for outdoor use. Their detection sensor is pretty 'sensitive' and buffering is quite good (fast).

      Note: I use both.

      • hmm tempted to change my imou to this, only because i have tapo smart plug and i want one app for all

        • +2

          stick with imou

is that hard to change apps?

most smart plugs can be controlled with google home nowadays

          • @pinkybrain: ok - agree not wise to waste $ in this inflation time

            • @CyberMurning:

ok - agree not wise to waste $ in this inflation time

Haven't you integrated all theses smart devices into google home / home assistant / apple home kit?

you can control those devices in that ONE app..
and can also setup routines to automate those devices as well.

So not just waste of $ but pointless
I hardly ever need to open those companies app since doing this.

              • @pinkybrain: Yep i have linked them to google home app and i can see their status and turn on off. But still need to use original app to setup scheduled on off at certain time day for example.

                • @CyberMurning:

But still need to use original app to setup scheduled on off at certain time day for example.

You can do that with routines in the google home app

                  • @pinkybrain: Ah that automation tab on the left? Cool will try tonight

                    • @CyberMurning:

Have you tried the automation yet?

What devices do you need to schedule on/off?

You can add you custom command to manually turn it on/off (if you didn't already found yet);/

      • Problem with Wyze is so many features locked behind subscription paywall, they are awfully slow to fix issues (like detection zones on certain models firmware still have issues), and the most annoying… 5min cool down for notifications. I have 6 Wyze cams of various models but am going to slowly get rid of them. Maybe give TP-Link a go.

    • Different model though. C200 is 1080p where C210 is 2K 3mp. But I suppose you're referring to the wifi and app integration which would be pretty much the same.

      • Yeah app features is the main thing.

I find 1080p is better because while checking in for 5s I don't want to load a 2k stream. However I assume you can choose what quality you stream remotely.

        • only stream besides 2k QHD is 360p … every tapo camera has different low-fi streams it seems

    • Potentially silly question. I have this from another deal.
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/819141
Is it just a case of me being able to buy this, link it to the same app and I've essentially just adding cameras to my vision? Or do I need to be wary of the types of cameras?

      • +1

Yes, all the Tapo cameras and devices work together through the same app.

    • I've had 3 indoor wyzecam 3's for sbout 2 years and the upelling is maybe once a month? Takes 2s to delete it. And we have had SD cards in them all for local storage and never had any issues. Much better experience than my commercial grade PoE outdoor hikvision setup.

Anyone used this model (C220) specifically? Just reading amazon reviews, a lot of people reporting connection issues, Id like to know how widespread it is.

    • I use it as baby monitoring cam. No complaints.I would recommend camera mount from aliexpress if using as baby monitoring cam.

      • Do you have a link to the camera mount as I'm looking the camera as a baby cam as well.

      • Doesn't it have a light that would be noticeable to a baby? Or is there a way to turn it off?

        • I have the C210 and there is an option to turn off the status LED. The IR LEDs have a very very faint red glow and aren’t really noticeable at all.

        • There is a small red light, it's barely noticeable. And it doesn't have to be mounted right on top of the bed, mine is at the side of the Bed. It has motion detection and baby crying detection, so it can be far and you don't need to keep looking at screen. You will get notification when baby moves or starts crying. Few more features that I use are:
1.Sharing the device. Multiple phones can see the streaming and get notifications as long as they have tapo app installed and you have shared the device with them.
          2. Privacy mode: you can stop streaming from your app if you don't want any part to be recorded and resume right from your app. No need to switch off/on the device.
3.If you are on tplink ecosystem(door bell, outdoor camera etc.) which connects via hub, memory card is in hub which stores feed from all the devices. For these cameras you can't store videos on central hub and will need separate memory card added to camera.which is good if you don't want your baby videos to be stored with rest of the security feed.

  • How do you access the cam outside of the wifi network it's in?

    • likely need to enable port forwarding but comes with risks

      • +1

I take this back, the people below are correct!
i had to port forward for reolink, but my ring and tapo can be accessed remotely without config

    • +1

I tried turning off wifi, using mobile internet, it connects fine for me. I didn't do anything to make that happen

    • +1

The main way of viewing the camera feed and interacting with it generally is through the Android or iOS app, which works as long as you have any internet connection.

    • +1

i have imou cam and android app works everywhere as long you have internet, no manual setting nothing just works

    • +3

Use the Tapo app. Doesn't need port forwarding as long as camera is connected to a network that has internet access.

  • What's good cheap security camera that can work in front of the house?
(watch front of house as one time someome stole my bike from my house porch / entrance ) just outside my door. I had my roller shutters doen and ir was like 5am … Didn't know . til i looked out later when shutters were up :(

with cloud streamingt? is battery powered good option or not really guys ?

    • +1

You'll want powered, the battery cameras are not meant for continuous live streaming. Yiu might get away with movement detection isolated to just your door with a battery camera - that can notify you when movement is detected but may or may not meet your requirements.

Another option might be to use a smart door sensor - that way you can know if yiur garage door is in the open or closed position at any time.

      • How would wiring for that go btw… i wonder if my dad can figure that out or is there like a reallly long cable that could be plugged and snuck thru my door somehow? idk Lol

        • If its just to access a stream to see if the garage door is open or closed, why not just leave the camera inside the garage? The wiring is to a standard powerpoint and its about 2m long.

Again, i think a better solution would be the door sensor - that way you get accurate app notifications if its left open

    • Tapo c400, set it to run on event-recording mode and it will last up to 6 months (in our scenario, at least, and just for the front yard/porch/entrance).

Edit: It saves the recording back to the hub which also can be configured to play an alarm sound.

      • Does it save a clip of like 2 to 3 minutes ?

        • Min 20 sec, max 120 sec per clip, for whatever condition(s) you set it to trigger. The 're-triggering' can be as low as 0 sec.

      • I think this camera could be useful near the windows tho with shutters off!

$59 aye. I gotta learn a bit more and might look into buying this cause i don't think is reallt westher proof aye?

      • Has anyone tried the solar panel with Tapo outdoor cameras so that you don't have to recharge often?

    • Have the c400s from this deal

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/819141

Working well for the last couple of months.

    • these ones only work out the back of the house sorry

  • Indoor only yeah?? - cant find any detail even on tapo site.

    • Yeah, I don't think these are weather-proof.

  • Can we get this on Amazon to price match?

    • Only 1 way to find out

    • I don't think Amazon does price matching, if that's what you mean.

    • Dont think Amazon has this one to start with

  • +1

Is this better than the Eufy 2K indoor camera?
And does it work with Video Surveillance on Synology NAS?

  • +10

    $49 Goodguys price beat

    • Legend thanks!

    • Oooh?

How does the pricebeat thing sork again ? can u do it online ?

    • +1

No stock for C&C 500 kms around me in Sydney

    • JB go to $50 when you chat with a rep

      • So, $40 with perk?

  • Keen to know how close this is to the C225 … anyone got both?

    • Specs wise, C225 is superior. I don't have both but eyeing for C225 on prime day + Privacy shutter on C225 is a must have.

      • Thx, i assume so too, but wonder if the C220 sensor is just a higher res version of the C210. The C225 has a great picture, think its sensor is better tech.

    • C225 looks good and not bad price in November $77 delivered.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/812655

Hopefully it comes up on sale again.

  • Is there a way to mount these, without uhh permanent changes? ie. drilling?

    • +1

I have one of these, they come with a mounting plate. You could maybe try mounting taping it since the plate has a fairly flat surface from what I recall?

      • +1

not worth testing with tape if it should one day fall off..

        drill is safer
and you can fill it with plaster later if it is a rental etc

        • +1

agree just use very small screw bit, enough

    • +3

C200/210 is very light, you'd be able to mount it to those 3M stick it tabs directly and then pull the tabs down to release when you are done

  • I have this one, but after sometime it is not recording the memory card inserted but detecting the motion and alerts are fine.. have tried changing the memory card but no luck..
