Is it 40% off the weight or the price?

    • +9

From my analysis it’s definitely cheaper to go lighter

      • +15

        Right MEGASERVE?
They’ve got 40% off humour in Aisle 9 if you’re in the market. The humour is discounted, it’s not 40% less funny.

        • Wasn’t actually funny though was it.

    • Now I'm lifting 40% more!

  • +27

heavy discount…. I see what you did there

  • +1

Great, I've been waiting for a sale.

      Weighting

  • +16

… or go on Gummie and FB and get the whole weight set for peanuts off an ex-fad buyer who got sick of working out after 3 months and its taking space.

    • +9

Confirm legit. Got a brand spanka full set for half price because his wife bought them for him but he cbf.

      • Yep. It's good getting new fad stuff for half the price!

      • -2

But this is 40% off ..
So you bought secondhand weights for a 10% saving ?

        • +3

Not sure what you're getting at?
Are you trying to criticise me by saying 50% saving is not better than 40%?

I bought a 50kg set for $70 which they purchased from rebel for $130 last Christmas

        • +1

This sale is only good if you are buying one/few piece(s) of equipment and if you are also a germaphobic.
When you start to go to a full gym set, weights, barbells, bench press, adjustable weight racking etc … get used and pay peanuts. If you have decent transportation/delivery methods, it's a no brainer

  • +4

Dumbbells are 3.20/kg. Is that a good price?

    • +7

I think it’s reasonable for brand new.
      I’d pay up to 3.50.

    • yes

    • +1

A standard price is $4 - $4.50 per kg on dumbells.

    • -1

      Cheaper to lift watermelons!!

  • +4

I got like 120kg worth of celcius plates last time they had 40% off no complaints. Been great. if it’s in budget I can recommend.

  • +16

I'll be getting my weights from KFC these next 2 weeks.

  • +12

If you're willing to stick around while they check out the back, you can usually get a long weight as well

    • Definitely worth the weight I reckon

  • +7

Thanks OP. Really raising the bar with this one.

  • +7

If you’re using a 1” bar or just want some plates for whatever check out Kmart. Every day price is way cheaper and the 20kg is cheaper than rebel’s special price. Quality is a probably the same and unless you’re a real hero who needs to slam weights after every set I doubt you’d ever break one.

Note stores may not always have a massive amount on hand so click and collect may be a good option.

    https://www.kmart.com.au/search/?searchTerm=weight+plate

    • Agree, I've got most of my weights from Kmart.

  • +12

Facebook Marketplace is really good for Gym equipment. So many people run out to buy this stuff, realise they're not using it and sell it on Marketplace for pennies on the dollar. A little bit of rust on a weight doesn't really impact the product's performance very much.

    • +2

spot on. i even scored a pair of hex 27.5kg dumbells for free once. just need to be the early bird in most cases.

    • +1

Can't wait for all the deals in 3-6 months time from all the OZB rushing out to buy weights they won't likely use just because it's a good price.

    • Fun fact rust actually increases the weight of the object! So its better value

  • +1

Which dumbbell weights/set should I get as a beginner lifter? Thanks!

    • +9

Might be worth joining a gym and get the hang of things first before splashing out - either that or start with body weight exercises such as push ups, table pull ups, squats. Good form is key and good diet.

Idk where you are at strength wise , but start with say, 2.5 ,5 , 10 kg dumbbells, and maybe a few light kettlebells, and resistance bands is a decent start.

      • Thanks yeah, good idea to join a gym first maybe. Although with the 2.5, 5, 10 kg dumbbells, what sort of exercises/routines did you have in mind with these weights?

        • +3

Also just checked- this looks ok for a starter set, not really great for upgrade path though .

          https://www.rebelsport.com.au/p/celsius-50kg-weight-set-4063…

You can get cheaper sets but the cheaper ones are usually shitty plastic shells filled with concrete, and the handles and bar are usually a combo of steel and plastic.

        • +3

          Chest press incline decline
          Dumbbell fly
          Dumbbell row
Bicep Curls (your choice of standard v hammer)
          Tricep work
Goblet squat (great progression from body weight squat)
          Weighted Bulgarian split squat
Calf raise with a weight in each hand
          Shoulder press

          • @Jimothy Wongingtons: I don't have much experience with dumbbells specifically, but would these weights - 2.5, 5, 10 kg - be sufficiently heavy for this routine? Not that I'm particularly strong or anything but just asking

            • @monkeyoutlet: Well I mean when I very very first started like… 20 years ago, I was flat out curling 10kg or even doing ONE pushup.

No point in hurting yourself or having bad form - I assume you’re something like mid 20s early 30s.

Otherwise scale according to your own strength. If you get that set I linked , I think it has a decent range of weight to scale up or down and grow into and most importantly is budget friendly (imo)

        • +1

My advice might be a bit old, but google Starting Strength. It's what I wish I knew when I started working out. It's mostly barbel work though, so joining a gym is a good idea.

    • +1

If you're a guy, just go on Facebook Marketplace and get adjustable dumbells I think 2x24 kgs are the weight/value option roughly $180-200 (they will give you a good range and it will take a while before you need heavier weights), and get a pull-up bar and download a bootleg copy of P90X. You'll be a buffasaurus in no time.

    • Im gonna make this this spring https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-ocb1Hd0yc. Im intermediate lifter*

  • -1

I'm still coming to terms with the weight of this discount.

  • +2

Big discount on this one haha

    $119.99 ^
    Was $199.99
    Ends 07/07/24

    • yah agree, for brand new this is a decent price.

  • Thanks, price beat at Officeworks and got 40% + 5% (price beat) off my current weight.

    Peak physique for kfc tomorrow

  • Might make my own set with high strength concrete one day

  • +1

Thanks just went and bought an Olympic barbell for $120, second hand they got for $100 on marketplace

    • +3

If you're Anatoli you don't need a second hand

      • +1

You need the other one to hold the mop

      • seriously how is that guy so strong. insane stuff.

  • Thanks OP. Bought a 50kg weight set C&C

  • Definitely not saying that weights aren't a good investment, but thought I'd add in that you can make a perfectly workable TRX (suspension training) using tie downs and PVC piping from Bunnings for something like 30 bucks AUD. https://www.instructables.com/Homemade-Suspension-Device-for… Was incredibly useful in lockdown, and great to train outdoors, hanging it from a tree, as opposed to being stuck inside.

  • +2

Works nicely with the KFC deals.

  • i currently have 2 celcius dumbbells with a total of 40kg weight (20kg either side including the bars)
I want more weight mainly for squats/deadlifts/bench press since 20kg on either arm is enough for every other exercise but too low for those three
should I buy a barbell + a couple of big weight plates or just get some more big plates to add to my dumbbells? what's the most cost effective?

    • For the big 3 you should definitely get an olympic bar and a stack of plates.

  • Thanks Op. bought 2x25 kg and 2x22.4kg hex to complete the set from a similar deal to last year.

  • Bought a couple of different neoprene dipped dumbbells .
    Cheers OP.

  • +5

    Delivered.

For those who really hate their postman!

  • Thanks, finally completed my Celcius dumbbell collection after all these years. Wish they didn't change the dipped design though!

  • Don't forget gift card + cashback

    • 8% at Shop back. Ends tonight (as does this deal)

  • +1

Kmart is still cheaper on some plates…

    • +1

Which is fair enough if you are working with ‘standard’ 1 inch I guess. The celcius ones are Olympic (2 inch)

  • +2

Should I buy more to leave under the bed and ignore?

  • 9kg medicine ball $23..…

  • So they are down to the normal price of weights at other stores.

  • storage rack looks ok for the price. cheaper than the amazon cheapies.

Does anyone have one? There's spots for two barbells but one is a "standard". Can't tell from the pics if it's a removable insert so I could store two olympic bars

  • +2

Did you see this deal tomorrow at Woolworths:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/854216

20x EDR Points on TCN Party includes rebel

  • Not heavy enough unfortunately. Need at least 30kg dumbells each.. With the best value interchangeable (Adjustable) dumbells you can only get 25kg max.. Guess it's time to look through facebook as said above

    • You can get the spinny dumbbells and extra weights putting the total to 30kg each

  • I picked up a 3kg, 5kg, 6kg hexagon sets yesterday (black & silver ones). Sold out of 4kg. They are a lot better quality to hold than the Kmart and Big W ones. Does anyone have any suggestions for a weight rack to store them? I saw some on Amazon

  • The fatter i get the more weight i lift its a natural progression.

  • trash ass dumbells, i bought 2 sets few years ago, the locks come off after a few sets they get loose, you get what you pay for, i eneded up getting the twist modify dumbells, been using them for 2 years worth every dollar, adjustable dumbbells they go up to 32kg per side and as low as 5kg
