40% off weights at Rebel. Ends 7 July.

I have been using Celsius dumbbells and kettlebells for years and find them of high quality.

It's rare for weights to be discounted so heavily so stock up.

Is it 40% off the weight or the price?

    • +2

From my analysis it’s definitely cheaper to go lighter

    • -2

Probably the stupidest question ive seen on Ozbargain… obviously its the price

  • +14

heavy discount…. I see what you did there

  • Great, I've been waiting for a sale.

… or go on Gummie and FB and get the whole weight set for peanuts off an ex-fad buyer who got sick of working out after 3 months and its taking space.

  • +3

Dumbbells are 3.20/kg. Is that a good price?

    • +2

I think it’s reasonable for brand new.
      I’d pay up to 3.50.

    • yes

    • A standard price is $4 - $4.50 per kg on dumbells.

I got like 120kg worth of celcius plates last time they had 40% off no complaints. Been great. if it’s in budget I can recommend.

  • +5

I'll be getting my weights from KFC these next 2 weeks.

  • +6

If you're willing to stick around while they check out the back, you can usually get a long weight as well

    • Definitely worth the weight I reckon

Thanks OP. Really raising the bar with this one.

If you’re using a 1” bar or just want some plates for whatever check out Kmart. Every day price is way cheaper and the 20kg is cheaper than rebel’s special price. Quality is a probably the same and unless you’re a real hero who needs to slam weights after every set I doubt you’d ever break one.

Note stores may not always have a massive amount on hand so click and collect may be a good option.

    • Agree, I've got most of my weights from Kmart.

Facebook Marketplace is really good for Gym equipment. So many people run out to buy this stuff, realise they're not using it and sell it on Marketplace for pennies on the dollar. A little bit of rust on a weight doesn't really impact the product's performance very much.

    • spot on. i even scored a pair of hex 27.5kg dumbells for free once. just need to be the early bird in most cases.

  • +1

Which dumbbell weights/set should I get as a beginner lifter? Thanks!

    • Might be worth joining a gym and get the hang of things first before splashing out - either that or start with body weight exercises such as push ups, table pull ups, squats. Good form is key and good diet.

Idk where you are at strength wise , but start with say, 2.5 ,5 , 10 kg dumbbells, and maybe a few light kettlebells, and resistance bands is a decent start.

      • Thanks yeah, good idea to join a gym first maybe. Although with the 2.5, 5, 10 kg dumbbells, what sort of exercises/routines did you have in mind with these weights?

        • +1

Also just checked- this looks ok for a starter set, not really great for upgrade path though .

          https://www.rebelsport.com.au/p/celsius-50kg-weight-set-4063…

You can get cheaper sets but the cheaper ones are usually shitty plastic shells filled with concrete, and the handles and bar are usually a combo of steel and plastic.

        • Chest press incline decline
          Dumbbell fly
          Dumbbell row
Bicep Curls (your choice of standard v hammer)
          Tricep work
Goblet squat (great progression from body weight squat)
          Weighted Bulgarian split squat
Calf raise with a weight in each hand
          Shoulder press

        • My advice might be a bit old, but google Starting Strength. It's what I wish I knew when I started working out. It's mostly barbel work though, so joining a gym is a good idea.

    • If you're a guy, just go on Facebook Marketplace and get adjustable dumbells I think 2x24 kgs are the weight/value option roughly $180-200 (they will give you a good range and it will take a while before you need heavier weights), and get a pull-up bar and download a bootleg copy of P90X. You'll be a buffasaurus in no time.

    • Im gonna make this this spring https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-ocb1Hd0yc. Im intermediate lifter*

  • I'm still coming to terms with the weight of this discount.

  • +1

  • Thanks, price beat at Officeworks and got 40% + 5% (price beat) off my current weight.

    Peak physique for kfc tomorrow

  • Might make my own set with high strength concrete one day

  • Thanks just went and bought an Olympic barbell for $120, second hand they got for $100 on marketplace

    • If you're Anatoli you don't need a second hand

  • Thanks OP. Bought a 50kg weight set C&C

  • Definitely not saying that weights aren't a good investment, but thought I'd add in that you can make a perfectly workable TRX (suspension training) using tie downs and PVC piping from Bunnings for something like 30 bucks AUD. https://www.instructables.com/Homemade-Suspension-Device-for… Was incredibly useful in lockdown, and great to train outdoors, hanging it from a tree, as opposed to being stuck inside.
