How Much Are You Paying for Your nbn Plan?

Hello everyone,

I'm curious about the different costs people are incurring for their NBN plans. It's always helpful to get a sense of the market and see if I'm getting a good deal or if there are better options out there. Here is my details.

  • Plan Speed - 50/20
  • Monthly Cost - $65/month
  • Provider - Vodafone
  • Location - Sydney

Looking forward to hearing your experiences and recommendations!

Thanks!

$69 for 4 more months on 100/20 with Superloop

Hopefully ABB or similar has a deal like it when my discount ends with Superloop.

    • +1

Leaptel does $75 for 12 months

        • +11

You know you can message them directly to find out the answer to your question?

        • +9

What time is low tide tomorrow at cape paterson?

        • +4

Back in the DSL days I'd be referring people to Whirlpool to compare plans. So sad they didn't keep that up…

        • Does OP ever use "Google" or comparison sites ????

Do they realise OB is not the only web site on the internet providing great informantion?

Your realise that the other point of this post was to see what people are paying that aren't normal advertised prices, so you can equip yourself to negotiate on price?

        • +1

The Comparison Sites do not work well, because of the first month special offer.

    • +1

      plus ~$69 from cashback rewards
and and 5 x 24hr boost to 250/25Mbps per month

    • Superloop offered me 100/20 for $79 ongoing after the initial 6 months expired. Took it as I cbf with all the swapping every 6 months

Thanks for your contribution to a discussion of NBN plans…..

        • +20

i respect the hussle aspect of what youre doing, but 500Gb a year is pathetic, that is 10Gb a week, 1 good quality movie is 10Gb

          • -3

@Qazxswec: The 'free' SIMs usually have over 50 GB for a month.

            Felix mobile has unlimited data…

            https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/829559

          • +2

@Qazxswec: I know people that survive only on data shared from their mobile plans, low volume users who basically don't watch TV beyond FTA or Youtube or social media. Even working from home is done via a tethered mobile (often in places with shit reception too!).

In our house, 500GB wouldn't make a single month let alone a year! But everyone is different.
(Hell that's barely one COD updated :P )

          • @Qazxswec: who has time to watch a movie every week?

        • you on point, NBN price has been going up and up and will keep going up

        • This is OzBargain not OzSpendTheLeastPossible

    • Dunno why you were downvoted… this is the way to do it. I'm on a higher volume data plan but would never consider NBN… ridiculously expensive for an easily substituted product. Only really relevant if you NEED a low ping/very stable connection.

      • +2

Shh it's not allowed to talk about mobile data alternatives in this thread.

100/20Mbps Unlimited Plan $64 with Dodo

However, speed and drop outs seem to be an issue. I never had any issues when I was with TPG.

    • +1

Speed was consistent but I had some issues with Dodo, While I was with Dodo, online streaming on certain sites was interrupted, and not with my current ISP.

      • +1

Lucky you with dropouts, I had Dodo continue to bill me after I left them, after that was sorted out 6 months later completely out of the blue they tried to bill me again.

  • +1

100/20 on Dodo for $64/month for 6 months via WhistleOut.
Although I preferred having Vodafone NBN which was rock solid on the speeds.

    • I signed up with the same deal, do you have issues with speed and drop outs?

I think I will change providers after the 6 months.

      • Not getting drop outs but speed issues. Vodafone NBN and then TPG before that were perfect for me. I'll hang in there for the 6 months then change, potentially back to Vodafone.

        • +1

Yeah TPG was fine for me too even if the plan was for half the speed of Dodo.

          • @onetwothreefour: I guess Dodo is super cheap for a reason (potentially).
Are you on FttP/HFC or something else?

          • @onetwothreefour: TPG are solid, they seem to get so much hate but ive been using them for 20+ years and have always been good https://imgur.com/a/VD9Vy25

            • @Qazxswec: Yeah I was with them for years and only changed recently due to their pricing.

              • @onetwothreefour: Do they charge a deposit for NBN? I recall there being deposits involved at least with their mobile services that were a hassle to get refunded?

          • @onetwothreefour: was with belong, many many drop outs, sometimes good sometimes very slow dowmloads
switch to tpg this week, hope its good

  • +13

Not NBN, but 1000/1000 on Pineapple net for $119.

    • Man..you’re privileged

      • +1

        I won't lie - it's pretty damn good! haha

        • +5

          it's pretty damn good!

          What about on pizza ?

          • +10

@jv: That's pretty damn good too! Although, not everyone's going to agree! 😆

    • How does one get 1000 upload? What sort of crazy line is this? Is this normal NBN or something special?

      • +2

It's a private company with their own fibre network. Gotta say - I enjoyed their 350/350 plan for $75 and it was awesome.

        • +1

Oh I just looked them up. Seems like a Melbourne only thing. That is ridiculous tho

          • +2

@Smol Cat: Not ridiculous - it's like that in NZ and many other countries. It's what we'd be paying if the NBN hadn't been such a political screwup.

            • @RedHab: Oh so I've been brainwashed to accept this mediocrity. Sad.

    • Thanks. Will look at this. Do they provide Modem/router too?

      • No, they don't.

    • +1

Getting the 'Pineapple' is usually a bad thing, obviously not in your case.

      • At home it's good. At work, it's a different (and more painful!) story! lol

  • +9

leaptel 1000/40 - $99 PM (first 12 months only, ill probably switch after.)

    • Same, once you go 1000 you can never go back

      • -2

        750/50Mbps will possibly be cheaper

This will be the new speed for those on a 250/25 plan later this year…

      • what are you doing that needs 1000/40 plan?

        • +8

Anything that he want but faster than everyone else

        • According Abbott, my video entertainment system

        • its not a matter of whether a 100/20 plan is a good speed, cause it is, but its more a matter of the fact that for about 10% extra cost, you can get 1000% speed increase of your internet, it is a no brainer when you think about it

          • @Qazxswec:

it is a no brainer when you think about it

unless you're struggling to pay the bills and feed your family.

      • -3

        Racist much?

        • Dude, what are you talking about? You overthink too much

      • When I was on 300/300 at my last place, 1G was maybe 10% more cost. Or cheaper with other providers. Never bothered to get it- couldn't find any use for it because I monitored my bandwidth usage and knew what was going on. I'm much more interested in having a non-gimped upload speed, which all residential NBN plans come with.

    • +2

More had 1000/40 for $81 with CBA offer

      • +11

Ive dealt with budget ISP's before, never again.

        • what's wrong with them ?

          • @bazingaa: Probably nothing, but from past experience it's not great to go the cheapest.

Experienced multiple congestion issues cause the crappy ISP doesnt have enough bandwidth. The low typical evening speed is a bad sign they are like that.

            • +1

              @Axelstrife:

the crappy ISP doesnt have enough bandwidth.

NBN no longer charge CVC for speeds from 100Mpbs and upwards, so unlikely to get congestion issues.

              • @jv: Really? Interesting.
Ill admit it's been about 4 years since my last budget isp.

              • @jv: But a cheap RSP generally won't give you fast international speeds as they will take the cheaper longer way around.

        • +2

Ive dealt with budget ISP's before, never again.

I'm getting better speeds with More than I got previously with Superloop.

          Currently getting 260-270 on a 250 plan.

          • @jv: is that testing on ookla or the m-lab test on google, cause the ookla test is full of sh*t, only the m-lab test gives you your real download speed?

            • +1

              @Qazxswec:

              is that testing on ookla

That's the speed my router is reporting.

With speetest, at 9:10pm I'm getting.

              Ookla
              PING 2 ms
              DOWNLOAD 257.32 Mbps
              UPLOAD 23.17 Mbps

              M-Lab

                              NDT MSAK
Test Server Melbourne, AU Sydney, AU
              Download 249.45 Mb/s 250.35 Mb/s
              Upload 23.39 Mb/s 23.35 Mb/s
              Latency 3 ms 13 ms
              Retransmission 0.10% 0.78%

            • @Qazxswec: Ookla isn't wrong here. nbn provide more download speed on most speed tiers than what is advertised (except for Gigabit). 260-270Mbps is normal on the 250Mbps speed tier.

      • I was on more 250/25, but most often found speed limited to around 100. Have to keep rebooting nbn device (FTTP) and it would go back up for some time and revert eventually! Support blames my internal wiring so moved to another ISP and proved same wiring holds fine a 1000/50 connection!

        • I am on HFC and usually getting around 260/22

        • +1

The issue would have been with NBNCo if it wasn't your wiring… Not the ISP. There is no CVC on that plan.

      • I churned from ABB to more for the same reason. CBA offer sounds great. However, they do have some issue. Particular with CloudFlare protected websites and CDN. Unable to turn on WARP because CloudFlare think I am in an unsafe network. What I did is tethering and get WAP connected. Then switch to WIFI to get my traffic routed properly. I may leave them soon if there is a good deal from Superloop or ABB. Does anyone know whether they calculate pro-rata for the final bill when leave them?

        • They are using Vocus so it should be like any other ISP on Vocus, I don't use WARP but never had issues with Cloudflare sites.

  • +2

    Prices are going up…
Look at the usual suspects. Superloop, Exetel, More (if you are a CBA customer) and move before the price goes up in July!

    • +1

Yea. Just signed up to 100/20 for $55/month with More. Set for 12 months.

  • looks like $65 am paying now is ok

  • +3
    Plan Speed - 250/20
    Monthly Cost - $69/month
    Provider - More + CBA
    Location - Melbourne

    • wow good price!

    • -4

      You are getting ripped off…

      I'm with more and on a 250/25 plan…

Most of the time getting 260-270 download speed… about 22-23 upload speed.

      • +3

hehe my mistake, I am getting the same

    • How did you get the price?
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/851683?

      • I had that 50% off 3years offer for 50 Mbps package and 40% off for 12 months for any package with CBA mortgage (30-35% off without mortgage, just with an account), I got the 40% off and 250 package as 50 is not enough as we both are WFH.

  • +3

    $89 for 100/20 with Exithell.

    Time to churn.

    • +3

I assume you referring to the need to give them 30 days notice or whatever it is. I'm with Exetel on 100/20 and pay $75/month ongoing ..just call em up like I did and say if they cant match $75/month…or whatever you're moving on. That's what I did and no worries. In terms of speed, ping times etc they are great and the free 5 days per month speed boost to 250/25 is a bonus

      • +1

I just got off the phone to them. As my 6 months of discounted 50/20 was expiring.

They offered me a $4 discont per month, bringing my 50/20 plan down to $75.

        So I cancelled.

        • +1

Been with Exetel for 6 years spoke to retention team two days in a row, biggest time wasters. I said my friend was offered $10/mth they said that stopped last week, best we can do is $4/mth so canceled and churned to Kogan 50/20. Cheaper than Exetel, same speed, churned with an hour and no downtime.

      • Be upfront and mention you have mobile plans with them please. Don't just say you are magically getting $75 because they certainly don't offer that.

Called their cancel line 3 times and nothing. Churning.

TPG offered something pretty good. Basically going to be $300 ahead plus double speed with their FTTP upgrade promotion.

        • not sure if you're replying to me or Kkuba…but I have no services with Exetel other than my 100/20 NBN line.I can send you screen shot of my bill if you like. And just to clarify..they wanted to charge me the $84/month after a price increase but I called and complained and said I could get $75 /month elsewhere and after a few back and forth with retention team they agreed to $75/month

  • +1

    Superloop 25/10

Started in Sept 2020 at $65/mth
July 2024 price increased to $69/mth
    Location: Gold Coast

I don't game so I'm fine with the speed.

Very disappointed with the price increases and I'm thinking about buying a Nighthawk M6 Pro and trialling wireless broadband!
