  • No 5G :(

    • Now includes 5G access for all plans.

      • Capped

        • Lower latency than 4G. So there's that.

          • @Oofy Doofy: On vodafone yes, i notice pings on 4G can get into high 30's/low 40's in metro sydney. 5G around 20ms. not as low as i can get on optus sub 6ghz 8ms

  • 20Mbps is decent honestly if you live alone by yourself, (for home use). however if you live in family/with sharing of internet, I dont think 20Mbps will be enough for home use.

that being said good data for on the go too. only $20 a month (but again ozb members should try and get the boost sim freebies first before hand)

    • you not meant to use it as a home internet, but oh wells, if you use it "fairly" and not torrenting all day, I guess in the end of the day it's alright.

Good alternative for those that got banned from Boost.

      • How did people get banned from Boost?

        • +1

when you order the sim, you'll get a message saying "opps, something went wrong" not letting you checkout.

If you somehow got pass the checkout by using a huge combination of different things (friend's identity, different address/Credit card, etc etc) you'll find yourself not able to activate it unless you speak to their chat support.

you will be effectively shadow banned when you trigger their system somehow (buying too much, using someone else's CC detail, who knows what else)

          • @OMGJL: Can confirm. Banned from Telstra for using 400+ sims over the years for Doordash/Uber Eats orders.

            • @shaibankek2: What did you get for doordash/Uber eats? $20 off?

          • @OMGJL: Same thing happens with Felix too.

It sounds good but when you are capped at 1Mbps its not such a good deal.

      • +4

The $40/$20 is unlimited data no capping

I've been using it for internet for about a year now, for 2 of us, no probs at all. We stream 4k uhd all the time, and play games, etc. We use it for Foxtel, Netflix, Prime etc, about 500GB per month. I put the sim in an old 4G phone, USB tethered to a travel router. We each stream separate stuff at the same time.

  • Anyone used a b818 and got away with it?

    • Not a B818 but a Kogan (Tenda) 4G680 for almost 2 years and recently a TP-Link MR600, using 200-300GB per month. The only "warning" I received is that my device is not VoLTE compatible.

      • If your sim is in the modem how did you read the warning?

      • I have, I’ve used Optus, Telstra and currently Vodafone with no issues

      • @brianmau How much did you buy TP-Link MR600 for? Any links?

        • FB Marketplace for $50 2nd hand. If you haven't got your Felix activated yet, I'd say you sign up Kogan's deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/831175 and use it for 90 days then switch to Felix. If you have an active $40 Felix subscription you can pause the subscription for 3 months while on Kogan. For a $35 subscription they'll put the price up after 60 days.

    • b818 is terrible for not allowing rts/cts adjustment. on 2.4ghz it is basically useless because there are too many client collisions IME. It's actual wifi power is pretty poor, also.

The great thing about it is the 1-click bridge mode, so you can throw all those duties over to a proper router (preferrably running a FOSS operating system a la Openwrt).

Used a 818 for a few month then one day the Sim just wouldn't work in the router with no warning, have to switch to a phone and openWRT router thereafter.

I didn't even use it very heavily, just casual YouTube, I purposely update my game other ways where possible

    • I put the sim in an old 4G phone, USB tethered to a travel router.

  • Just got my dad onto this an hour ago, then just saw this post.

He switched over from Vodafone to the unlimited Felix plan with the eSIM option. He’s stoked as he was looking at paying $69 for an NBN plan, but it’s only him in the house.

Despite it running on the Vodafone network, speed tests show a pretty big discrepancy. Felix showed just over 5mbps download compared to Vodafone 33mbps in his house.

This is good enough for streaming etc for him so he doesn’t mind, and he’s only just connected so I’m sure it will improve closer to advertises speeds of 20mbps.

Felix "might" be doing something to push you into a crowded or slower band if signal strength allows. In my case, I have to place the modem at a certain spot that B1's signal is significantly better than B3 to get good speed (20M off peak, 8-10M peak time). Once it switches to B3 it's super slow at peak time (2-3M) with high ping time. A reboot will usually push it back to B1 again. That was a CAT4 modem without carrier aggregation and no band lock. Once I switch to a CAT6 (MR600) with CA it automatically bonds B1+B3 at the same spot and I constantly hitting 20M even at peak time. For $35 a month (existing user) it is a good NBN alternative to us considering we don't stream anything higher than full HD. YMMV.

      • Absolutely agree. Fantastic low-budget option for those that don’t need anything more than steaming full hd.

    • I've never got less than 18Mbps. (Mornington Peninsula area.)

  • I'd like 50Mbps for 200-300GB $35-$40 per months

  • Already with Felix on the 50% from the previous deal which is coming to an end in a few days time (3 months passed).

Wishingful thinking, but will I be able to benefit from this again if i port out and back into Felix on this?

    • just tried with Felix support chat on this , unsurprisingly denied :'(

    • Couldn't you just activate a new account with different email address and new number, if you're only using it for data?

      • No, this is also for my daily phone use.

  • Good to see unlimited data in mobile plans is a thing now

  • +1

How do you use both a referal code, and the 50% off code?

  • Thank you OP. Am going to try this instead of paying the $300 NBN tax for a new development.

  • Just reading these T&Cs and am thinking I can't do this with a clear conscience.

Can I use this subscription to replace my home internet connection?
The felix plan is intended to be used with your personal mobile phone only. You are permitted to tether other personal devices, such as your laptop or tablet, to your mobile phone by creating a mobile hotspot from your phone via Wi-Fi.

However the felix plan must not be used to provide tethering to other people's devices (for example the devices of members of your household, colleagues or friends), nor used as a substitute for a home internet service or in a modem.

Maybe I will use Kogan or keep burning through those Boost mobile SIMs with cashback.

  • There is a 50% reduction for three months with FELIX10 that expires 14 July, https://felixmobile.com.au/terms-policies/50-for-3-promo-nov…
Can I use a $30 Felix SIM from Officeworks plus the Felix App to get this FELIX10 deal or do I have to order the SIM and get it sent out and then activated?
