2024 Mazda CX-5 from $37,990 Drive-Away (Save up to $3,134) @ Mazda

4790

Looking at how all these car deals are getting over 100+ upvotes, I thought I'd do one myself (please don't flop).

A base-spec Mazda CX-5 now costs less than an entry-level version of the smaller CX-30 with a Vision Technology package.
The biggest savings is on the top-spec CX-5 Akera AWD; discount of (up to) $4,400.
The CX-5 is now about the same cost(ish) as a Kia Sportage.

*depending on where you live.

These are "temporary price reductions"; I don't know how temporary.

Edit:
Mazda also has other models on discount.
Starting from (drive-away)
CX-3: $29,990
Mazda CX-30: $35,990
Mazda 3 hatch and sedan: $32,990
Mazda 6: $37,990
CX-60: $59,990

For ABN Holders:
Select 4x2 BT-50: between $2,063 to $3,438
Select 4x4 BT-50: between $4,813 to $7,563

      • Had a skoda octavia my17 with the 110kw engine and it was as fast as I need it to be for city driving. Also much lighter on fuel.

        • Yea nice! This would feel very laggy for you I suppose.

      • +1

Do some research on diesel, it's absolutely poison. I grew up with trucks and was mistakenly under the belief the emissions after all the filtration were somewhat close to petrol.. not even close. Most of the emission figures are either falsified or taken when the car is new.

  • I drove a 2018 Mazda 6 Wagon for a few years and I cannot stand the jerkiness of gearbox when the car is at low speed (e.g. at carpark or traffic jam). Make sure you test drive the car at low speed (less than 20km/h) and determine whether you can accept this uncomfortable behaviour. I sold it in the end. Overall, Mazda claims they have a lot of technologies developed for the car. E.g. skyactive but I would say they are good at nothing.

    • Skyactive was extremely innovative for the time but unfortunately hybrids took away their thunder.

Honestly mazdas dont really have their point of difference anymore. Used to be mid range luxury. Now china has cars better speccd at lower prices

      • Honest question: better specced and quality are 2 different things, is Chinese cars' quality up there vs Japanese cars' quality? Really tempted to get BYD Sealion 6 instead of Mazda CX-60 but some utube vids states that there are lots of warranty claims against Sealion 6 Chinese version. Dunno if Aussie version is better? Thanks

        • If the reliability of the latest generation mazda engines are anything to go by there's definitely a big questionmark around quality.

And yes equipment levels in mazdas are somewhat behind the chinese

          • @Drakesy: Ah ok, i dun follow car tech that much. I have a 2015 Mazda 3 and very happy with the quality. I probably need to retire my 2008 Civic station car soon so looking for a hybrid car. Are you saying Mazda s quality had been declining lately? Thanks

            • +1

              @Bargain-er: Its more plateaued

Definitely the chinese are giving them a run for their money

Vw and mazda i feel are struggling to stay relevant as mid level luxury.

        • I would not be buying either. The CX-60 is flawed, too many issues for a new model. They may get it right in the next iteration of the model but as it is I would not be spending my money on a CX-60 now.

          • @angers: What would you suggest for a med size PHEV SUV?

What's the issue with cx-60 btw? I only read the ride quality pro? Thanks

            • @Bargain-er: BYD Sealion honestly is the market leader.
              I wouldn't buy a Mitsubishi tbh.

              • @Drakesy: I watched this video abt Sealion 6 (Song Plus in China).

                https://youtu.be/Ht9MuTYXsTE?si=i-Gy4GxMl0jdbcJs

The phev version has higher warranty claims. Not sure if OZ version is better.

Yeah, i won't buy Mitsubishi as well. Looking at BYD, Mazda, KIA or Toyota. Read that NIO will be coming end of 2024.

    • I have had a 2016 and 2017 Mazds 6 wagon for a combined 100kms. (One was a write off).
Love the car. Red in Atenza spec with those 19 inch rims.

      Sex on wheels!

Tempted to get a new one.

      • I still love the look of the Mazda 6 Wagon but the jerkiness of the gearbox at lower speed is so uncomfortable. We end up replacing it with a Subaru Outback and immediately notice much better driving experience than the Mazda 6. The only downside of the Subaru Outback is the CVT gearbox. The Mazda 6 Wagon is also full of minor electronic issues (folding mirror, parking sensor). The most annoying one is the i-eloop capacitor no longer able to recharge. The cost of replacing the i-eloop is much more expensive than the cost of petrol that it can possibly save. This happens under warranty but thr i-eloop is not cover by warranty.

        • The i-eloop is a scam, but found the opposite, I felt the Mazda has a presence on the road where the Subaru felt like an old falcon.
Agree though, the Greatbox was a bit jumpy on the older models. Rather small engine for the weight so the transmission has to do a lot of the work.

  • -1

nice better than all this Ev garbage

    • The Tesla Model Y deal got over 400 votes!

      • -2

So everyone who voted bought one?

        • +3

          Username checks out

  • FI the base model is surrounded by black plastic, the UV coating fades and the plastic goes grey in the sun after a few years, go for the all colour surrounds is my tip

  • New Mazda's are extremely underrated in Australia imo. I don't see much people talking about how premium their interiors are for the price.

    • That's because they are not just tiny interior

    • -1

Ita becauae their interiors are somewhat inferior to the cheaper chinese now

      • To compare a Mazda to a cheaply made chinese car shows that you either (a) haven't been in either of them or (b) are a paid shill for Chinese cars.

Either is possible, given your post history.

        • I have a Chinese car and a Mazda… both less than 4 years old…
Was going to own 2 Mazdas but drove one and the price didn't make sense.

          Oof

    • +1

If you see on the road, you will notice there are more Mazda than Honda or BYD

      • +1

Well that's obvious Because BYD have only been in the market for 3 years?

    • They definitely aren't underrated. There are loads of them on the road and they are definitely value for money.

  • +2

I think 5 years of covid and then inflation and shortage people have forgotten that pre 2020 u can easily negotiate a 10% discount for a std car if u willing to bargain hard..

Today car advertised discount all the people say must be end of the world for car…

Pre covid it was common to have discount.

    • I think this is coming back. Demo BMW can be negotiated down to ~72% of RRP.

      • probably have to put it on their finance plan though

        • I don't mind when it's 1.99/2.99/3.99% with 5k cash back! It's cheaper than novated lease even at the highest marginal tax rate.

          • @ymmf: Finance is always worse than buying the car. Run the numbers.

            • @coffeeinmyveins: I put the spare money into offset at 6%+ so there is an argument to do this rather than to pay cash.

              • @ymmf: Sure, if it works for you where you can make more money than paying the interest (looks like bmw is ~4% at the moment).

One thing to consider I guess, and it's the reason I didn't get a car loan, is the impact on getting a mortgage is insane.

                • @coffeeinmyveins: I absolutely agree - so in my case the car finance was processed 20 minutes after settlement!

Is this how I can be a yummy mummy

  • +4

The most likely explanation for such a large discount on CX-5 range is due to losing its ANCAP rating on 31st December 2023.

Now the market is being flooded because fleet cars don’t allow unrated ANCAP cars. Furthermore, it costs money to (re)do ANCAP rating and due to more stringent rules it might not get the 5-stars.

Many other car brands are affected and at end of this year many more will come.

    • Does that mean that overall, new car prices will drop, thereby forcing the costs of the second hand market to also plunge?

      • +1

        Possibly.

I suspect that we should see a flood of new (current gen ICE) cars being on sale this year as car manufacturers introduce more hybrid and/or electric vehicles next year or so. Thus redoing their ANCAP ratings with these upcoming cars. I’d say we can expect ‘runout’ sales to continue through the second half of 2024, especially since the new emission rules kick in from 2025 so there will be a push to get rid of current (new) stock.

        • What emission rules?

    • +2

Ancap is a load of horse crap.

      • +3

It’s a bargaining chip and now it favours the buyer, so use it.

      • Yep
Solely responsible for the multitude of dings and dongs and "driver aids" that result in more distractions

        • I have just recently bought a new Ford Ranger single cab ute to use on the farm, and when I stop, put it in park and pull on the handbrake, then open the door, the bloody car starts "dinging" and a warning on the dash tells me "DRIVER SIDE DOOR OPEN!" - No sh1t Sherlock, what did you think I was going to do? Why the bloody hell do I need an audible AND visual warning that the drivers door is open EVERY DAMN TIME I STOP AND GET OUT OF THE CAR!.

          • @dtpearson: I hate that feature on my 2019 Sportage. I get it if the car is moving but while it is stationary and in Park - now that’s outright dumb and annoying.

  • Whoa, Mazda should come out as number one by the looks of it.

  • +4

Good car but tiny shit boot

    • +2

Don't know why this was negged. Have an upvote. Boot and rear legroom is terrible. We couldn't even get a pram in properly so was a no go. Boot specs on paper look ok-ish but seems much smaller in reality.

      • +1

        exactly

I had this car so it's from experience simultaneously with X-Trail, Rav 4, ASX, Outlander and all of them have much superior space and few efficiency than the CX-5

CX-5: big on the outstand, small on the inside. Also guzzles few like no tomorrow compared to other cars of similar size of other brands.

    • Agreed. Main reason why I've never bought one

  • +3

For a car in this segment, the cx5 has relatively less interior and boot space. Took a hire cx5 and was not at all impressed.

    • Old platform. CX5's look good on outside. you're better off going a CX30 which is on the newer 3 platform.

  • Great deal though

  • +1

Not quite clear how much of a discount it really is in reality. During the offer period, dealers tend not to negotitiate.

    • +2

Tell them you don’t want a fancy car wash for $1700 (dealer delivery fee), knock off another $1k from the car, throw in free car mats, cargo mat and rear sunshades oh and 3 years free scheduled servicing.

      Presto instantly saved $5k

      • Dealers tend not to negotiate during offer period.

        • +2

The discount offer is from Mazda, not the dealer.

We’re in a EOFY sale and plenty of dealers are throwing in scheduled services, $500-1000 free extras and other stuff.

Dealer delivery fee of $1700 is an instant saving and only a sucker would pay for this.

      • Would they do that though?

      • I negotiated once and hated it since the sales passive aggressively told me he s losing money and I was being insensible. He called me every 2 days anyway to force a sale. However, spoke to another dealer and I got the deal immediately. So I simply told him to stop calling me since I got my deal from another sales guy.

        • Unfortunately that happens with many car dealers, not just Mazda ones.

Yes, best way is to walk out as they need to sell, you don’t need to buy from them.

  • +4

Stone Cold Steve Austin has come knocking at 316 votes, whoooooo, thank you Ozbargainers!

    Very humbled!
    Much love, thank you! 💜💜💜

  • -3

$38k for a new Mazda CX5? No way. You can buy a 4 year old used Toyota Rav 4 Hybrid with only 100,000km for the same price.

    • +5

Why would you want a used hybrid

      • I wouldn't. It's insane, Toyota's used car prices and what people are paying for them post Covid. As if after Covid, the whole world ONLY want's Toyota's.

        • Toyota's have historically keen known to be extremely reliable and straight forward to fix mechanically. Also parts are marginally cheaper to buy than other brands

          • @easternculture: Well before Covid they still crashed in resale value like every other manufacturer, what changed post Covid?

    • Toyota Rav 4 hybrid with 100k on it? no way. You can get a used Audi RS5 for that much money.

  • Oh man now I am going to buy a car from ozbargain, damn!

  • Nothing on Cx9?

    • It was discontinued

  • -2

Get a forester :D Best all round view and only real all wheel drive ;)
Seems recession just round the corner, first comes the new car sales then you'll see the fire sales used car sales…

    • +1

The problem with Subaru's is the Boxer engine design and the CVT transmission, both will causes problems long term if you hold onto to your cars.

  • +3

OzB surely gone a long way man i've been on and off this site since 2010. Man we were just trying to look for free stuff back then.

  • +1

Likely as temporary as Tesla price drops. Lol

  • Good to see some prices coming back to normality. But Mazda was probably one of the most restrained when it came to jacking prices during COVID.

  • -1

its a good price, however i would run from mazda, if your going for a mazda, just buy a GWM.

    • What's wrong with Mazda? Genuine question. Need to advise the rest of the family.

      • +1

because they have very limit leg space on the 2nd row and onwards and very small boot for all their cars compared to other brands of similar type

sure engine performance cannot be faulted but it guzzles a lot of fuel especially the CX-5 and sluggish take off.

        • Good to know.

      • +1

my friend has one, the curtain airbags are installed very tight, so tight started to kink the roof on its own and mazda wont acknowledge a known problem and the engines are not the best either

  • I was looking at various turbo diesel SUVs on the second hand market, and a number of the CX5's all had had engine replacements by Mazda… amazing!

Didn't see that with any other make/model I was looking at.

    • Diesels in CX5 and Mazda 6 were no good.

    • Mazda has never built a good diesel. Their petrols, however, are decent enough.

  • +1

Good car but I feel so cramped sitting in this car. Go try before buy

  • +1

Not a fan of Mazda but their new designs looks pretty damn slick, even the Mazda 3 hatchback looks nice.
If they made a hot hatch to rival the AMG A45 and Golf R it would sell like hot cakes.

    • +1

In the US the Mazda 3 gets a top spec with a turbo, it leaves the AMGa45 in the dust. Unfortunately we don't get it.

  • Owned a RAV4 in the past and now with 2 Mazda, i can tell Mazda is perfect in build quality & design, the driving experience, while losing in interior space.
If only about luxurious feeling and driving experience without an European car price tag, it is no brainer to be Mazda.
Go test drive and you know what you are buying for.

  • Starting from (drive-away)
    CX-3: $29,990
    Mazda CX-3: $35,990

    ??

    • +2

Maybe they meant Mazda CX-30: $35,990

    • Thanks for the flag, fixed!

  • Currently have a Nissan X-Trail (2016 model). I want to get a smaller SUV type car, CX-3 size but a hybrid. I know Kia has the Niro hybrid model. Anyone know what the Niro is like? Any other suggestions?

  • Apart from the jerkiness of the gearbox at low speed and numerous minor electronic issues (Based on my previous Mazda 6 wagon 2018 experence). It is my understanding that the infotainment screen is not touch screen and you will need to use the rotary dial for navigation. This annoyes me the most when entering destination address. I don't mind not able to use the touch screen while driving for safety corncer but the fact that you cannot use the touch screen while the car is parked or Stationary is beyond my understanding.

    • Yes, that's definitely a PITA.

    • I love rotary dial compared to touch screen (though I've used only Mercedes, not Mazda). The ability to have one eye on the road, one eye on the screen to change something while driving is great. Can't do this with a touch screen.

    • Love it. Fingerprints on touch screens are a huge pet hate of mine.

  • Possible to get cheaper using broker like motorscout?

    • Love to hear others thoughts on this.

I think typically a broker / motorscout can get some good deals.
