2024 Mazda CX-5 from $37,990 Drive-Away (Save up to $3,134) @ Mazda

4520

Looking at how all these car deals are getting over 100+ upvotes, I thought I'd do one myself (please don't flop).

A base-spec Mazda CX-5 now costs less than an entry-level version of the smaller CX-30 with a Vision Technology package.
The biggest savings is on the top-spec CX-5 Akera AWD; discount of (up to) $4,400.
The CX-5 is now about the same cost(ish) as a Kia Sportage.

*depending on where you live.

These are "temporary price reductions"; I don't know how temporary.

Edit:
Mazda also has other models on discount.
Starting from (drive-away)
CX-3: $29,990
Mazda CX-30: $35,990
Mazda 3 hatch and sedan: $32,990
Mazda 6: $37,990
CX-60: $59,990

For ABN Holders:
Select 4x2 BT-50: between $2,063 to $3,438
Select 4x4 BT-50: between $4,813 to $7,563

            • @onlinepred:

you seem to notice, must like the look of the mx5

Nah mx5 is a shit car, drove my mates once and didn't like it. Refer the Toyota 86 TBH.

I like looking at custom number plates when I'm driving, there is a dedicated forum thread on another site where we share custom plates we saw with type of car. And have noticed as above the mx5 drivers

              • +2

@easternculture: Oh the gt86 are mid life crisis cars for women though

Also mx5 is not shit lol. You must not like cars

                • @onlinepred: Shit car for me. Didn't ask for your approval lol. Much prefer the big engines supercharged or twin turbo

You drive what you like and ill do that same 👍👍.

                  • @easternculture: But the GT86 has less power per tonne, and no turbo lol. I was just trying to find if it had basis, but seems more emotional. As what you said makes no sense beyond you having a personal thing?
The GT86 is overall less fun to drive than an MX5. The only car close to it is the new GR86. Clearly your mates one must have been crap haha

Very dated, almost 10 year old infotainment UI. News from the grapevine is they are planning to phase out all the cx-X models and reposition themselves as a premium brand with only mazda3 and the cx-X0 models.

    • China is calling…..

    • the cx 5 will still be around for a long time, purely due to that it still sells. Mazda tried it with cx60 and it fail hard and they are doing price drops and Band-Aid fixes to try to rescue it. If you still prefer ICE car the cx5 is still the best option in that line up.

      • Source that cx60 is "failing hard"?

    • +2

Dated but this the only car where the 2.5 engine based model and above with a HUD and blindspot alert.

The inside of cx makes rav4 so dated.

  • +2

2024 and still no memory mirrors on the CX-5…? Come'on Mazda…

    • Base model doesn't even have climate control ;-)

    • I wonder how much the mirror/ module cost is if/when it fails. Something like my brother's bimmer that cost $2K when a back window stopped winding up and down.
      Give me manual mirrors!

      • Well, it includes the BMW premium so…

The mirrors in the Mazda are already electric. Plus, you have memory seats. So if you have two drivers, having two seating profiles but no mirror memory is missing the point IMHO.

Good deal but should be further negotiable. Parents needed a car urgently after some else crashed into their car in Jan this year resulting in a write off. Purchased a new 2024 CX-5 2L Maxx model in 'Eternal Blue Mica' of the shop floor for $33,400 and then added tint ($400) and Dashcam ($800) with a Driveaway of $34,600 from one of the dealerships in Sydney. Howewer, this was in the last week of Jan and the Sales person was pushing to get the delivery by end of Jan so that he can get his numbers up.
They love the car as this feels very premium over their previous Toyota Rav4 (last gen model). It is gutless but perfect for their use case. Only wish it had a touchscreen rather than the scroll wheel but dad loves the 'high tech' voice commands haha.

    • Dashcam ($800)

I would assume that they installed front&back cams and hardwired to the battery, $800 is steep but still cheaper than from the Toyota dealer. They've quoted me for $1,595 (Blackvue brand) when I ordered the Rav4 in Jan !!!

Bought the Viofo duo for around $350 (without the hardwired kit) and spent 1hr to installed.

      • +1

        Blackvue, back and front hardwired.
Dad was worried after the incident so got that done right away. The dealer gets installed and they showed that it costed them $750 and wanted to make $50 from the add on after the haggle. They started with $1,350 but got down to $800 after we told them that we will walk away.

    • Hi, may i know which dealer you got that price from? Cheers

  • CX5 is probably the safest family SUV in its class. Check out the new IIHS crash tests compared to others it scores well for an old platform.

    • Mazda driver here, but pretty certain they Mazda lost it 5 star rating, and could be in hot water over the emissions ratings.
Tesla Model Y was rated by ANCAP as the safest SUV by a country mile, it's really not even close. That is despite losing points for some really idiotic reasons, that do not relate to safety. With Tesla all safety features are included on ALL models.

      • As a past Mazda driver (323 Astina) way back, I have to say that Mazda has lost its way. Other than nice paintwork, all of their models are just looking dated, especially inside and they have missed the EV transition completely. I worry that they will be gone in 15 years now that Chinese EVs are close to price parity.

We have gone to a two Tesla family (Model Y SR for wife & kids, Model 3 Performance for me), and we won't go back to Japanese ICE. FAR nicer drive, FAR safer for the family, FAR faster, and maybe even cheaper in the long run with solar PV.

  • +2

Dated car and not as reliable as other Japanese SUVs. The new honda crv is a lot better than this.

  • +4

I got one 4 years and 3 months ago, drive away, at $30,990. I have been loving it.

It is ridiculous that the deal is $7,000 more expensive for literally the same thing.

    • +2

Remember your dollar isn't worth what it was 5 years ago.

  • +3

But EV discounting signals the end of EV’s…

    • +4

Wait a couple years. All the cars including EV will be much cheaper.

      • EVs will definitely be cheaper and get cheaper due to economies of scale and better designs.

But why should ICE cars get cheaper with inflation the way it is, their economies of scale getting worse and more onerous pollution regulations?

        • Rats fighting in the bottom of a barrel trying to survive?

        • Inflation has negative impacts on discretionary purchases. New cars are not essential and won't be bought. The bottom will be reached when the manufacturers are selling them at cost just to clear the yard and their new (lower) production figures flow through. Probably end of 2025.

        • +2

Look at price of ICE cars in China and you will understand. When EV is reaching price parity and become better option ICE car has to reduce it's price to maintain market share.

          • @jimwh: ICE cars in China crashed almost overnight, but very different environment there, some cities you can't even drive ICE cars in the CBD. Outside the CBD driving an ice car, people stare at you. Get in the country and it's back to anything goes.
But the transition caught many offguard.

            • @UltimateAI: That is a factor but it is people's perception on car that matters. A few years ago Japanese car is always the preferred choice you have to pay a premium to get the car ealier. Now look what other Chinese cars and EV are offering the Japan car offering is too outdated and reliably boring.

Competition is always a good thing, customers win. People vote with their wallets.

  • +6

I had my Subaru Levorg Wagon next to my sisters CX5 one time. I couldnt believe how little boot space she had in that thing. Its a nice car to drive and be in. But there are more practical choices out there.

  • +6

Good to see that the greedy car manufacturers and dealers sweatin cos they got 5hitloads of stock incoming ..

    • 100%. The tables have definitely turned - the dealers were calling the shots during COVID when supplies were restricted and most took full advantage of it.

  • Here, take up upvote!

    • Thanks mate!

  • +3

A 2.0 litre engine for a mazda 3 size car in an SUV doesn't sound too good

      Will last 150,000km+ easy.

      • +2

        Nice, like nearly every car

      • +3

If they don't last 300K there's something basic wrong with the mechanicals.

  • +1

    Thank bought 3

    • Guessing… It will be for resale? 😜

      • restocking for another covid resale

Looks like petrol cars are flopping.

    • +3

      Tesla dropped from 70k to 55k 🤡

      • -2

        Future is hydrogen

        • Not with current technology…. now if they can pack hydrogen loosely in a convenient compound that would be different.
But primarily in fuel cell EVs… not hydrogen burning ICEs.

        • LMAO….

        • Shame you cant find a refuelling station.

        • Not sure if this is a troll post, but I am sure someone believes this, just like I did 10 years ago.

        • Hydrocarbons

        • Yeah the future is your hydrogen car igniting up in flames. Lithium is the future and we have it now. No need to reinvent something that provides massive amounts of torque, serves the environment well and is cost effective to use. Dont see Elon ever even mentioning hydrogen.

    • +1

      Just a supply chain adjustment

  • +4

Almost a decade old design. No thanks.

  • 37k then servicing cost then fuel. works out to be alot more when you think about it.

  • +1

ICE cars are tanking! same as EV car : ) good sign for potential car buyer.

    • They're tanking because petrol prices are at $2.30… Once prices come back down to $1 range, these cars would start selling again

  • upvotes contradicts comments :P

  • +1

    Decade old technology

  • +3

"Mazda’s CX-5 2023 was found to use 15% more fuel in its real-world testing than its lab-calculated rate of 6.9 litres per 100km". 2023 model but I doubt they've magically fixed this erm…oversight. Not as bad as the Swift's 31% discrepancy, but definitely worthwhile for prospective owners to be aware of.

    • fuel is also a rip off.

    • 6.9 ltr that must be the 2.0 version. What do u expect 2.0 suv is too underpowered. U need to drive like a snail to come close to 6.9

  • +1

    Take my upvote OP :D

    • +2

Thanks mate! Can't believe something like this is already past 100!

Edit: OMGollyGosh, it's past 200!! NEVER HAVE I EVER!!!

      • +1

        Congrats mate

  • This or Rav4??

    • +3

Rav4 any day of the week. Good luck getting one especially anywhere near this price though.

      • +2

I have work 2024 RAV4 GXL Hybrid. Parents have CX5 Maxx. I would choose CX5 any day of the week. It feels more premium, is more quiet and feels relatively more sporty. The suspension and steering is a lot better in CX5. CX5 has way more soft plastic and premium materials. The boot is carpeted throughout. All resulting in very quite and well dampened ride.

Boot space is way better in RAV4 but feels so plastic throughout.

      • Ill be picking up RAV4 Cruiser Hybrid (2020) all options/extras included for $35000. Seeing this deal making doubt my purchase 🤔💸

        • I would consider going for the new car here due to warranty and all considering the warranty on RAV4 would be expired/expiring soon as they came with 4 years warranty then. Options are great but not much at the time of resale. RAV4 would be slightly more frugal. I am averaging 5.6l/100km after 6.5K kms and I am not the most efficient driver.

      • Toyota is purely going by brand image. They cost cut literally everything in the car. Whereas if you look at the underbody of a Mazda, you would know that they dont skimp on absolutely every part.

  • I thought people only buy hybrid or EV these days. Petrol only cars are so last century thing.

  • +1

Sounds like a good price but these models are so dated. Also shocking NVH

Lets be honest the price to make a car has barely changed since covid however the retail prices jumped 15-20% overnight.

This is just returning to the norm.

    • Albeit temporarily.

I hope it stays this way for the rest of the year, pushing down 2nd hand prices. But inflation, weaker dollar, we end up losing more when we import. Sigh.

      • With an impending recession i dont think its temporary

  • +3

For those with Costco membership, it is cheaper through their auto connect ($36,653) - https://www.autoreviewa.com.au/autoconnect

Price might vary for different states, this is for QLD.

  • +3

After years of overpriced cars even second hand I don't care anymore Ill just keep driving my old car into the ground.

  • +5

Only Toyota can get away with increasing prices during end of Financial Year, lol. It's basically Toyota vs the world. I hope Chinese manufacturers come in swift and hard and take Toyota's crown in sales and bring them down to ground level again. Absurd prices on any new Toyota, especially Hybrids.

    • I doubt it, the US is applying 100% tariff to chinese cars as they're only selling cars at $20000 - $30000. Aus governement tend to follow with these sort of things. Seeing as we're still designing Rangers and starting up manufacturing industry again with Navara Warrior, these protection measures are all the more likely.

  • +4

239 upvotes? Am I the only one who thinks this is way overpriced for a somewhat outdated boring car.

    The base model was $31,390 in 2022 - https://www.redbook.com.au/cars/details/2022-mazda-cx-5-maxx…
(ok … it was manual - but a cheaper base model which disappeared to upsell you). Seems like Ozbargain gets used to the new pricing of car manufacturers fast.

    • I think we’re all just happy to see car prices finally coming down regardless of what the car is.

    • +3

I think its because op is getting some weird gratification from getting upvotes so everyone is dropping one.

        This.

                THIS IS SPARTA OZBARGAIN!!

Sincere big thanks to the community.

  • +2

Is it as dull and slow like the 2013 model which I currently have?

    • +1

Why don't you do a test drive at some point and let us know if the extra $4k they charge for the peppy engine is worth it.
Some people complain that the normal one is dead. Because the power to weigh ratio is poor.

The golf TDI has a turbo 2.0 diesel and is just insane stock. This will deffo feel sluggish, me thinks.

      • Had a skoda octavia my17 with the 110kw engine and it was as fast as I need it to be for city driving. Also much lighter on fuel.

        • Yea nice! This would feel very laggy for you I suppose.

      • +1

Do some research on diesel, it's absolutely poison. I grew up with trucks and was mistakenly under the belief the emissions after all the filtration were somewhat close to petrol.. not even close. Most of the emission figures are either falsified or taken when the car is new.

  • I drove a 2018 Mazda 6 Wagon for a few years and I cannot stand the jerkiness of gearbox when the car is at low speed (e.g. at carpark or traffic jam). Make sure you test drive the car at low speed (less than 20km/h) and determine whether you can accept this uncomfortable behaviour. I sold it in the end. Overall, Mazda claims they have a lot of technologies developed for the car. E.g. skyactive but I would say they are good at nothing.

    • Skyactive was extremely innovative for the time but unfortunately hybrids took away their thunder.

Honestly mazdas dont really have their point of difference anymore. Used to be mid range luxury. Now china has cars better speccd at lower prices
