Hello Folks, I wanted to get this printer with the previous $164 deal which was unfortunately OOS.

I was eyeing the printer for a while and saw this Printer on Amazon which is currently price matched with HN for $168. I was able to use the pickup code on Amazon to get it for $158 (code PICKUP10OFF). Additionally, I also stacked my Commbank targeted offer ($15 off $75) to bring it down further to $143 which I feel was a good deal, hence, pulled the trigger.

The $168 deal is also a decent deal if anyone wants to get, hence posted here.

  • 4 x 6 prints are 10 cents at Kmart.
These are about 42 cents when you buy the RP-108 refills for $45.

    • You can stack up the refills on a deal. Previous was 36$.

You also don’t need to touch the grimy Kmart computers.

    Convenience>>> time+fuel cost+kmart print cost.
Also factoring in the random kmart buys once you're there..so, this is cheaper for me lol.
I would also like to do the prints and make random photo albums, so this is a win for me regardless.

If you do a lot of prints, get an Epson Ecotank printer and some photo paper.

    • yep that's what ive done; so far pretty happy with the results of my prints. Just wondering what photo paper you've been using?

      • Whatever glossy paper that's on sale :) I don't use it for serious prints though, mostly photos that I can put on the fridge or give it to kids to play with. For more serious prints I use an Epson P906 with Ilford paper.

Got one of these a few weeks ago for around the same price. Yes you pay more per print compared to going somewhere to print stuff out but you can't beat the convenience. And the print quality is really great too. Very very happy with my purchase. Quick tip too. If you are looking for something to store it i grabbed this from kmart and it fits everything in just about perfectly. I put the machine in the bottom compartment and the extras in the top one.

they also claim on RP-108 pack that prints last 20 years without fading or discoloration. (with limited sun exposure of course, pretty sure nothing can put up with constant sun direct exposure for years)

so the quality of the print and paper is very very high. they didn't just throw some crap in a small printer like many other compact/portable printers.

  • Do these types of print fade over time?

(Canon says they last 100 years but I always take manufacturer claims with a pinch of salt :) )

Photo printer, but black and white only?

Photo printer, but black and white only?

Not sure if you are being serious or JV undercover and this is my whoosh moment

      1. Photos existed before and after the advent of colour photography
      2. The printer is available in either black, OR white

        I sure hope it’s the former 🤣

I don't think this will end well for me

    • Thats how I read it too haha

    • you must be fun at parties ;)

  • I'm very happy with mine, prints are good quality although not quite as colourful as a print from a store. The app is useful to create different sizes I can cut out and put in my wallet or journal. Would recommend.

  • Has anyone found a cheap generic paper/ink option for these?
AliExpress seems more expensive than the 42c/print quoted above? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006163866210.html

  • just a fyi guys.

I got one of these for dirt cheap, either the 1200 or 1300 (they are almost identical).

they have this problem where if you put the print cartridge in BEFORE you turn it on, the printer does a check cycle and it scrolls through 1 photo print worth of the print cartridge. (it's like a colour film on a roll type situation which is applied to the paper with heat)

so the important thing to do is TURN THE PRINTER ON FIRST BEFORE putting in print cartridge (both either battery or mains power) and wait a few seconds until it stops making noises. THEN you can insert the print cartridge (while it's already on) and do your printing. I think I might have gotten paranoid and taken the cartridge out before switching it off too, but I can't remember it might have taken up 1 photo worth on power off as well.

otherwise you will end up with an empty print cartridge a few prints short of what you paid for. annoying and especially if you don't use the entire cartridge in one go like me you will wonder why you are so many prints short of what was claimed from the cartridge. e.g. you didn't know about this issue and powered on the printer like 4 separate times, that's 4 photos worth of print cartridge gone.

anyway not entirely sure if this is the case with the 1500, but pretty sure it is because all canon printers do the check cycle noises when you switch them on. might be worth looking it up too if you are worried about damaging the printer or whatever. if there is any special method to do this on the 1500 there should be others posting about it already.
