  • Will this work overseas? Never owned a Motorola before

    • +2

Not sure many mobiles work when you're over the sea.

Shouldn't have an issue in most countries though.

    • Wasn't old enough for the flip phone craze I take it.

      • Nah was Nokia slide through and through :p

Fair enough… there's at least one phone fad that resonates with everyone.

As for the G54… good phone if the camera isn't a high priority.

The fact that there's an esim in a sub $200 phone makes it invaluable for the purchase of travel esims for travel. It recently saved mum and dad in Japan… none of the other 3 phones they had with them would connect to Amaysim roaming… so I sent Dad a travel esim QR code which he installed on the G54… and now he's got mobile data to use Google translate when out and about.

The rest of the phone runs adequately for the money based on the little time I had with the phone before passing it to Dad.

          • @Mugsy: What's a Nokia Slide? 🤔

            • @Cousin IT: The Nokia 8850, 6110, 6500, sliding was way cooler than flip hahaha

          • @Mugsy: awesome, just wasnt keen on taking the iPhone over in case of accidental drunkenness damage, $178 might be cheaper in the long run for maps, 5G, pay pass and general browsing

@BatmanAU: Yeah, the G54 should do the job. Just check the bands used at the destination country and the bands supported by the G54 to be sure it's suitable.

I have a trip to Japan planned for next year where I will still take my S23 Ultra since I did buy it for taking photos on holidays but the G54 will be my back up camera that I will keep at the bottom of the bag… just in case anything happens to my S23U.

              • @Mugsy: Meant to say 'back up phone'… not 'back up camera'… G54 is shite for photography.

  • Yes is working overseas without issue.

    • Sweet thanks

Sigh… this is still not the G54 deal I'm waiting for.

I would buy in a heartbeat if it was 256GB under $200.

This is ozbargain. As if you don't have a dozen spare micro SD cards you could upgrade the storage with.

        • -1

Yeah I have a couple 256GB, it's more the hassles of moving files over. Plus I cram my SD with FLACs.

        • The G54 doesn't allow you to use the SD card as internal storage (extend), you have to manually move the day you want and good luck getting apps installed on the SD card.

    • $149 one ey?

  • +2

    Needs to be closer $130

  • Ordered one from BigW earlier in the day for ~$6 more :( oh well, lol

    • credit card price protection claim

      • Which ones offer that these days?

        • None hahaha

  • Buy or HODL for below $150?

  • If you have amaysim, they are offering $29 for the phone + one renewal.

    • This should be "If you are on Amaysim and are lucky enough to get a code from them to replace what they think is your 3G handset". Not everyone on Amaysim got a code.

  • Same phone as far as I can see available from Optus for $ 1 per month x 36 months when on a plan.
