Sorry but i have to say - We had these exact fleet machines and their hardware quality was terrible - multiple issues with charging where it would just refuse and we would have to get warranty involved. Otherwise theyre nice fast machines.

I have to agree - I had one issued for work, and while it was fast, I installed a second DIMM and it just failed to boot. Reseated multiple times, and couldn't get it to boot. I left it on the shelf for a while and I turned it on one day and it started LOL

I look after my IT equipment, and around the 3y mark, the hinges started to develop play, which was disappointing considering how well I'd treated the laptop. I replaced the hinges and the issue was resolved, but the quality of these units is… average, at best.

Oh yeah, and I also replaced the battery once, as it became a spicy pillow, as did my colleague's.

Though, at this price, this is probably not a bad option for someone looking for a cheap laptop. They are fairly zippy machines despite the issues I listed above.

Thanks for the lol with "spicy pillow"

Just joined the subreddit after reading your comment.

        • subreddit for spicy pillow?

        • @he3at haha no problems, I love the description too! The telltale sign for a spicy pillow in these bad boys (apart from the swelling of the chassis) is that the touchpad becomes raised due to the battery pushing upwards and there being no give underneath due to the aluminum baseplate.

I had the exact same issue with my new HP zbook firefly 14 7840hs

I installed some new ram and it wouldn't boot. I left it for a few hours, came back and it booted perfectly.

Another issue is the laptop just wouldn't turn on when on battery mode.

Next time I'm sticking with Dell or Lenovo

      • Oh yeah, I also totally forgot about the keyboard. My keys have started to fall off, which seems to be another regular occurrence with HPs. I was reminded of this when I pulled out my 830G5 tonight to do a quick bit of coding.

    • That's a fair point but these specific machines would have already gone through the DOA/ early failure filter. I used to have the same problem with a Dell fleet - about one percent were DOA for some reason or another, but every refurb Optiplex is an unstoppable beast because that one percent was already sent back to Dell by the original purchaser.

      • yeah that is a valid point, but "consumables" such as the hinges and batteries are things that are subject to wear/failure over time.

I have a few of the Optiplexes myself, and agree with you here, they are a fantastic workhorse.

These HP laptops are very slow and the screen is very wash out. Got the 10th gen used for 400 and it’s crap

can't imagine what the B grade would be like having seen the A grade myself

    • Yes, another dump :) , but don't worry it will go out of stocks soon,

Agreed. The so-called "refurbishment" process these machines go through is a comedy. I reccomend avoiding this vendor.

Amazes me in 2024, corporates are still buying HP's, just dumb money.

    • Don't know about 830, has encounters with 840/845, generally no issue.

My workplace switched from Lenovo to HP - sucks big time.
But someone in procurement said they save the company lots of $$. So don't worry about anything else. You know, the usual corporate circus

  • This is priced right for the specs but god they suck to use.

    OP,

I recently purchased a $440 Grade A item described as being in excellent condition and maybe having only "minimal scratches". Prior to shipping, I specifically asked you to double-check the item's condition to avoid any potential hassle with returns. Despite this, the item I received was extremely dirty, had severe scratches, a damaged screen, and a keyboard with keys that were sticky on one side.

When I lodged a return request, instead of apologizing for the wasting my time and addressing issue, you offer me a $50 partial refund! This is unacceptable and a complete SCAM!!!
