Good price imo for new. Marketplace has been hitting like $500, but feel like this is worth it especially if you price match with JB and 10% off GC.

I want to cry so badly, but I don't think I can spare the moisture

Eh, been better recently in a bundle, even if we're only counting Amazon deals: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/826126

Otherwise there was an eBay deal with a lower price + Diablo just this year. I doubt anyone still waiting on buying an Xbox in 2024 would bite at this price. Decent shout if you're absolutely desperate to get one I guess.

    • Agree RE bundle, but it's $160 bucks off unless I'm missing something.

Assuming because the newer consoles releasing should see these drop further?

      • Yeah would assume the same. This is probably just a part of drops that will continue to come over the next couple of months.

Not sure where you're seeing a difference in $160? I feel like I'm the one missing something now.

    • +6

"recently", that is 5 months ago.
Long wait of staring at $799 if you missed that bundle.

      • -2

Are there really people who haven't bought an Xbox who bought this that wouldn't mind waiting for a better deal though?

The point I was making was that if you waiting on getting an Xbox, still haven't bought one, and were still wanting to get one in 2024, you would just hold for a better deal.

        • +2

I mean, I get it, but that is a point not really worth making as it's basically always true for all products at any given point in time :/

Myself personally, I missed all the Dec/Jan $650 deals, and have spent all Feb/Mar/Apr/May watching $799 not budge. Maybe I'll kick myself, but I can't see this being $550 in Jul/Aug/Sep, not sure if you've checked inflation lately :P Or the price of anything with a chip in it.

          • -1

@nzcoops: True, true, guess that applies to anything that isn't an Apple product

          • @nzcoops: End up getting one?

            • +2

@Ry009: I did actually. About an hour ago, C&C from Target, will pick up on the way home in a few hours.
So it should be available at most major retailers for $549 tomorrow. You're welcome.

  • Not a bad deal. I am hoping there is a special GEARS OF WAR E-DAY edition, the gears of war edition XBOX 360 was awesome

  • Got one for $505 in Nov last year - though that was the cheapest they've ever been.

Whilst it's great hardware i question my decision, with PlayStation now dominating sales and Microsoft not wanting to make exclusive games anymore. Meaning PlayStation could end up with most game variety

    • +1

Yeah, especially if you have a PC as well, PlayStation looks like the better deal to get access to the widest game library choice. I guess Microsoft see more value in selling more game units than console units.

      • -6

True, another issue is that Microsoft are still mostly releasing games on Xbox one. And whilst the series x has better graphics, it seems modest at this stage of tech. What's the difference between 500 polygons for a characters nose and 5000? To the naked eye, not much. It's different to the early 2000s when there was an upgrade there was a much bigger visual difference. From Xbox to Xbox 360 the difference was huge, then not so much.

        • +4

What games are they releasing on XB1? I had to replace my XB1X in my spare room as it couldn't play Starfield or Forza Motorsport.

          • @sallan75: I've noticed some games I've bought that are fairly new are also available on Xbox one. Baldur's gate 3 and EA sports FC 24.

Here's a list of upcoming releases on Xbox one and series X, it's not all of them but it's still being fairly well supported years after the next gen was released. There are 7 games being released on Xbox one this August.

I get what you are saying, but (coming from a PC user perspective) i'd argue better frame rates are still a big value add. I can say from experience playing a game at 90fps vs 30fps is a big difference.

          • +1

@qaz182: Yes at the end of the day there are still significant differences and for some it will be worth it. But there are reasons so few Xbox's from the current gen have sold, so it's clearly not worth it to that many even at this stage despite the series X being released in Nov 2020.

Ultimately I upgraded because I was pulled in by the bargain then later thought, this isn't that much better.

            • -1

@acersaurus: Which console did you come from? I've got a One X which TBH I only really use for a weekly COD session with mates. I already consider the graphics great, and I also upgraded the HDD to an SSD last year when I had a spare day just for fun so its much snappier than it was stock.

              • @LanceVance: Any good links on how to convert HDD to SDD on the 1X?

                • +1

@Danstar: Yep, sorry for the delay. Below video is perfect.

                  https://youtu.be/PtdDjiU_mCU?si=Te-VKrKQIKruH-oA

I used a Crucial 2TB SSD, its only SATA and it’s mainly doing reading only so no need to get anything high end.

Installing the OS on the new drive was a bit troublesome, but after trying it with a new USB drive it worked perfectly.
Recommend it for a fun and not too complicated DIY task. You’ll notice a big difference is OS performance and game load times.

I knnow youve been negged, but you are not wrong.

I have a PS5, and when the PSU died I had it replaced, and so turned on the PS4 and forgot how solid a 10-15 yo console still is, despite the (lack of) power.
I was just playing Red Dead Redemption 2 - and it still holds up well.

Now I also have a 4090 PC Build.. and the jump from PS5 to that.. is honestly not that big of a deal to me. Dont get me wrong, I like it, its solid and everything is just butter smooth and no pop in, and high res on my 4k OLED - its beautiful.

But play COD MW3 for example, it feels like a 10-20% improvement, even though when you dig in - as you said, it might be 10x more graphics power driving the refinement, visually its not that big of a deal.

Compared with say playing virtua fighter 1 vs the latest one (Lego vs awesome).

Anyway, hope that kind of made sense, and yeah, I kind of agree with you.

          • @BusMan247: Thanks! Yeah no idea why I got negged. OzB crowd is a bit of a mystery.

    • Where did you get it for $505?

        • Nice work. I always miss out on those flash deals, so might pull the trigger as I don't see it going much lower.

Although as soon as I buy, am sure it will go down.

    • -1

All the good PS games go to PC anyway.

      • +1

        Takes way too long

        • Plenty of other games to play while waiting.

  • +1

    Thanks for the shoutout :P
I guess with Target you can get today, vs 10 day ETA on this. Not sure who is best for returns though (if needed).

    • 10 days?! It's overnight at latest here in Melbourne.

      • Ah. Says 26th June for middle of Perth 🙂 it probably would be quicker to be honest.

  • Gee what about those who just paid $699 from Big W. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/850532

And the next thing you know you could have got it for $639 instead.

    • Return if unopened, shit outta luck if otherwise.

  • +1

You could price match this at JB and get today. They do price match against Amazon AU.

  • +2

JB is offering a bundle with Call of Duty for $669. Might appeal to some.

  • +1

With the three new models being announced 3 days ago for end of year release I feel like this is just the start of the discounts? Plus the fact it’s now available for $669 direct from Microsoft.

      • +1

Genuinely curious here as I'm not following the specs/news too closely. The three new models:
        - lesser model (series s) in a "new" colour (otherwise identical)
        - same model (series x 1TB) with the digital drive removed (otherwise identical)
        - same model (series x) with twice the onboard storage (2TB) in a "new" colour (otherwise identical - limited quantities select markets)
And these are ~six months away in the US.
Why would any of that bring the price of these down?

        • They wouldn't

          • @mickeyjuiceman: Can't see it dropping any further than what it is at the moment?

        • Series S in White is actually 1TB, the one it's replacing is only 512GB

          • @Mooncakes: Ah yup, apologies.
I mean, the point stands. The new models are merely colour and storage tweaks. It's like saying "there's a new drink coming out" when it is just coke releasing a 1.75L bottle. Perhaps it is exciting to some.

  • If I was wanting to get into MS Flight Sim, is this a good bit of hardware? Or better to get a dedicated PC?

    • I have played MS Flight Sim on this, and it runs very well. Using an Xbox controller is very easy to fly planes. PC is good, coupled with a VR headset for that full on immersion experience.

    • -1

You are comparing 600 and 6000

      • ehhh….no one has a $6000 gaming PC.

        • $6000 gaming PC is not including screen/keyboard/mouse etc. 4090 is $3000+

          • @Diddz: LOL. Not fair comparing a 4090 build with an XSX. That's like saying "console gaming is so expensive, my 98 inch QLED TV was $4000 and my surround sound system was $2000".

  • I feel that a console half way through its life should be around 400 by now.

    • +1

Inflation killed any chance of that.
