Nice find, haven't justified buying, feel like it it needs to be = or < $500 for me to pick it up

    • +1

That's fair. $500 would be great, but I only see that happening to the 512gb model. Im happy paying a bit extra for the 1tb. Who knows how cheap they will go though lol

  • +6

    Condition
    New, Refurb: Excellent

    • +5

      "Brand new: Unopened."

    • +3

Description a bit confusing, new is new, refurb is refurb, why mixed here ??? Also wasn't JW sold this spec a while ago brand NEW for only $599 ???

      • +1

I remember them selling refurb ones a while ago that sold out, probably from that. I'm not sure, think that was the Ultra 5.

        • This is advertised as NEW so they wouldnt be the same. If they were refurbs them they are advertised falsly and would warrant full refund / return (probably fine from ACCC as well)

  • what about using these as a normal computer with a bluetooth keyboard and house and monitor

    • If you want to purely hook it up to a monitor then get yourself a mini pc if that's the case, lots of good ones come up every now and then.

      • +1

And much cheaper and more powerful than buying this claw, mini pc even better if your monitor got a vesa mount, so clean looking!

      • +1

This comes with a screen and a UPS battery power

        • -1

Like I said as a purely desktop computer no.. there's cheaper better options. If you want to carry it around and use the screen and go off power then this is ok…I guess

      • Mini PC dont have/arnt built for gaming tho.. unlike this.. so i wouldnt go near a Mini PC if that was the intention

        • There are definitely mini PCs that can game quite well. Those latest Ryzen AI chips starting to roll out have awesome iGPUs

    • +6

Yes, it can be used as a pc. You just need to realise it has only one usb c for both power and connection. I would recommend getting a usb c hub/station.

Hardware wise it actually good value vs mini pc. Not sure if other really compare the performance vs mini pc at same cost, before assuming mini pc is better.

Ram is solder and thus fix at 16gb.

    • I am thinking if I can use it as a normal computer in a pinch. to probably only to do word processing

      • Yes it can. The cpu is a standard mobile cpu used in laptop. Default OS installed is windows 11.

As I mention, the main issue in port. Having only 1 usb c for both power and connectivity can be an issue. No hdmi/dp and etc. Hence why I recommend having a usb-c hub/station, adding pass through charging, hdmi, and etc. A cheap one can be had for about $15 from amazon.

  • $599 with all the accessories and I'm in…probably.

  • +1

$500 I’m keen for it and from a reputable shop

    • fair fair, i managed to price match with JB but still isn't $500. Good price if you want it now though :)

      • Yer would be but im happy to wait as I only need one for the free games I get on Epic, GOG and steam and Fortnite

Most of my gaming is on PS5 & XSX so I’ll leave the AAA games to them

        • Yeah fair enough, im very keen on getting one of these for emulation and steam indies so decided to pull the trigger. Hopefully it's decent!

          • @gusk12: Hoping you can keep me posted about it
            Feel free to msg me

    • how is that different to this one?

      • Sorry i thought it was the i5 version

  • Do all handhelds use integrated GPU? As in Intel or the likes.

    • +2

Yes. Can't fit enough cooling to satisfy a dGPU in a handheld.

      • Ohhhh ok. Thank.

  • How does one identify and benchmark the Intel Arc GPU in this product? From what i gather on Google there are different Arc models but reading the vendor page i cant seem to find what version Arc this is, unless i am totally misunderstanding how it works

The last time i got something with an integrated gpu was 10 years ago when Intel integrated meant potato. Today is the first I’m learning of high performance integrated Intel GPUs

    • +1

Honestly, it's so hard to find anything nowadays.

I browse to the chip series Wikipedia page and see what the specs are there for the GPUs and compare it to what AMD are advertising because they atleast tell you what GPU they're calling it in their APUs.

General gist is though that the ultra H are the best that Intel can offer for the series although any V chip will also have a decent iGPU but it will be lacking on the CPU side, H iGPU will be equivalent or better to V from what I can find.

      • Nice thanks for your thoughts. Been reading a bit more tonight. Seems there are a few reviews around for this particular model of PC too. Where the reviewers anecdotally measure frames per second for various games and compare it to Steam OLED, etc

Price beat at officeworks? Should bring it down to just under $600

    • yep, great price imo from a reputable store. only bought from JB due to having a gift card.

    • The question is whether it is worth it at $600.

      • Like others have said I'm waiting to see if I can snag one at $500 but that's only because I'm in impulse buy territory

        • Just HODL till Legion Go S & Claw 8 land here first, bet this & Ally sure will drop more

          • @kaikor: There's also Acer releasing units named Blaze 7, 8 & 11 denoting respective LCD sizes. It's going to be an interesting year for hand-held gaming

            • @vinni9284: Correct, after seeing all these next gen handheld reviews, spec wise & screen wise all up up to the next level, I don't mind buying current gen but definitely not at this price, these should be all under $500 once the next gen are out

          • @kaikor: Legion Go is 1299

Not even in the same price range lmao

            https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/lenovo-legion-go-s-z2-go-…

            • @Freestyle: Like most new tech, wait a few months and get it for ~30% off. I got my Lego 1 for like $950 after several months

      • +1

if you want a handheld now, it's the best value currently. If not then just wait it out i guess

        • 100%. Still a very capable unit. Plus if you already own a Razer Core/X eGPU, you can further utilise the TB4 port and get a GPU boost.

  • The driver updates and the new center m makes this a really good option. This review shows that it can compete with the ally x and steam deck.

  • How’s this with SteamOS?
As I understand this is one of the weaker hand helds (Worse reviews than the Asus and Lenovo even with Asus fumbling the warranty etc)

I’m personally waiting on either the Steam Deck 2 or proper benchmarks with steamOS on the Windows Tablets

    • If SteamOS is a must, Id probably go for the deck or the new legion go. However, it's probably still alright on this. This is only slightly weaker than Asus and Lenovo from my understanding. Really hope they don't stop rolling out driver updates but after all it is intel lol.

      • Was more that SteamOS is accessible to all devices now, being officially available next month so performance on these handhelds will go through the roof. The other console-like Linux Distros have a bunch of issues with hand helds still…

        • I can't remember where I got this idea, but I thought that performace and drivers weren't as good on Intel handhelds.

      • Intel still supports its 8 year old CPUs so not sure why you are casting doubt on them randomly

  • Paid double this for my steam deck oled and don't regret it, super fun and love playing portable titles at 60fps unlike on the switch

  • +1

Seriously.. I thought I had given up this model and the price just keeps getting better.. argh..

  • How is this for emulation ? Need something to replace aging switch that keeps disconnecting the controllers.

  • Recently got a steamdeck and absolutely no regrets. SteamOS just another level

  • Just bought a new PC, but this could be a decent way of handheld local play. Then again, a 7" screen isnt much larger than my s24 ultras 6.8" screen.

Anyone know how this compares at switch emulation vs snapdragon gen3?

Advertised sale price has ended, but it seems like this one was popular… so we have setup - MSI-HH-70 for OzBargain members to take up the deal @ $629 until the 31/01/25. Cheers everyone!

    • Yep, was right in the middle of getting Jbhifi to price beat, and wondered why the best he was offering was $699 when my window hadn't refreshed and still showed $629

    • Is this a coupon code? Tried applying but it says invalid.

    • Doesnt work with paypal.

    • Can you please make the code work with paypal? Need to use it for 4x payments. Thanks.

    • Now enabled for PayPal too!

      • What sort of timeframe should we expect for packing and shipping?

      • +1

Yes, same question here. Ordered today and paid using paypal.

    • ** UPDATE **

Promotion will expire at midnight on the 28/01/2025 due to MSI withdrawing its funding - so thanks to everyone running to JB HI FI for a price match, the fun has to stop :)

      • JB HiFi price match has to make it so incredibly hard to run a smaller store.

        • Makes it more fun watching them squirm, but we love when you actually support us too !

They do not match on the promo codes - so that is the trick :)

      • Didn't last until midnight and the code isn't valid in the 512gb :(

        • It’s already on discount at $599! Was too many price match complaints so we had to remove the promotion.

The 512 model is still online for now…

      • What do you mean by MSI withdrawing its funding?

    • Is the $629 price already over, my cart is showing $829

  • Does it have HDMI out or dock so you can output to monitor or TV?

    • +1

but at $1299, true ozbargainers here will never gonna get one at this price, we all wait for a sale!

      • True, just mentioning it that it's out already and hopefully this encourage for prices to come down on the current gen stocks

  • +1

Check out the balance of our MSI refurb product too… 10% going & some awesome units, at crazy prices. All factory refurbs, with MSI warranty.

For anyone tracking this post, we will increase it to 15% until the 31/01/2025!

  • The Verge gave this a 3/10 and were pretty scathing.

But that review is from May last year and it looks like the price has come down a heap.

Have updates since then fixed their major gripes (battery life, sleep/wake issues, performance)?

    • +1

Yes it has. It's now a different beast to what it was early last year when many reviewers got it.
      At $629 for the 155H 1TB model, it's a bargain and a half tbh.

      • Thanks!

    • +1

Really don't understand why this would be downvoted.

      I wasn't trolling; I was genuinely asking.

Not only that, but I included enough info that any potential answers would likely be helpful to others seeking more (and anyone who dislikes The Verge can factor that in themselves; personally I find their reviews to be pretty good).
