  • What's the appeal for this over a bean to cup machine like Jura?

    • +3

Less maintenance and proper Milk frother. This gets me the same results as going to a Cafe. I'm not an expert on espresso, just want a good coffee without the hassle.

    • +3

Jura will also use a pressurised basket, which means its actually grinding coarser to produce fake crema, oracle you can use unpuressurised so you grind finer to extract more coffee.

Jura is for if you cannot be bothered to learn what so ever and very low knowledge required to operate machine.

Breville oracle you still need to know what to do but some of the workflow is more automated.

The breville oracle will always provide superior coffee as long as you know what you are doing and even if you half dont you can still achieve better results than jura.

      • its actually grinding coarser to produce fake crema

Genuine question - what's the diff between fake and real crema?

        • +2

Fake crema is essentially froth, since a pressurised basket has fewer holes, it creates this froth that looks like crema but actually isn't. Nespresso machines are similar, except it spins the capsule really fast under low pressure (around 2-3 bars). Both can't really call themselves "espresso" machines since it doesn't make real espresso.

Crema is just the release of carbon, think of it like opening a can of coke and seeing the fizz and bubbles at the top. The release of carbon due to ~9 bars of pressure is called crema and is only achieved from really finely grounded coffee due to high extract yield.

  • Good deal I think although still roughly 1k more than the express. I'm lazy but prob not 1k for slightly less effort coffee.

    • I switched from BBE to oracle a couple of years ago, and honestly it has given me lots of time back in the morning. two coffees ready in 2 mins vs 5-10 minutes, including clean up. and the basket is big enough to make 2 coffees at the same time. BBE the basket is just a little bit smaller. But yeah, I also managed to make 6 coffees in quick sucession for guests a few weeks ago, in under 10 minutes. it would have taken ages on the BBE.

  • Not working for me… Keep saying "The seller isn't accepting bids or offers from you."

I considered this machine the last time I was shopping for a new coffee/espresso machine, but ended up deciding on the dual boiler instead… I don’t like the idea of having a grinder incorporated into the machine, because if the grinder develops a fault then you lose both purposes and can’t use the machine for making coffee if it’s sent off for repair. Plus the grinder in these is pretty mediocre.

    • +1

      100% correct.

    • +1

Agreed. The grinder is such an important part of the chain. This one has a mediocre one at best

      • Agreed, I've been using the oracle for years and the grinder is fairly average. However once you find the right beans it is extremely consistent. I've been using dark roast south american (inglewood) and have been producing 99% consistent lattes for the last 12 months. Dont know how it would go if i wanted to branch out into single origins and lighter roasts however. I imagine, not so well.

        • It depends, if you got the oracle with the updated baretza burrs, you shouldn't have much issues with SO. It may be harder to do fine dialing, but you should still be able to enjoy it. Now whether super light roasted coffee will be good for the longevity of the motor? I'm not so sure about that one.

If you want the best coffee from an automatic machine then this is it. There is no competition. There are two potential downsides:

There are more electronics packed into this so a higher chance of breaking
A Breville Dual Boiler + a decent grinder will cost the same and make better coffee

    • Well now. That's 2 pretty massive downsides.

    • fair enough. what is considered as "decent grinder"?

      • Eureka Mignon?
        Eureka Specialita?

        • Sorry, are these questions or suggestions?

          • @pizzaguy: Suggestions. :)
            I had Breville Smart Grinder.
Upgraded to Eureka Specialita - big step up.
Then upgraded to Eureka Mignon XL - small step up.

Eureka shipped directly from Europe is a solid choice.

    • An Ozbargain price for a BDB and grinder will cost considerably less than the Oracle. BDB have been $899 in the past, not so recently though. Plus the grinder is often cheaper than retail. The combo when on sale could be round 1100-1200 max when on special. Lets see what taxtime sales bring.

Great price. Had mine for a couple of years now and still very happy!
