St George Amplify Qantas Signature Credit Card: 90,000 Qantas Points ($6k Spend in First 3 Months, $295 Annual Fee, $75 Fee)

833

Looking to churn another credit card and I didn't manage to get the ANZ Black card - saw this and noticed it wasn't posted on Ozbargain.

There's two variants:
1. 90,000 Qantas Points ($6k spend in 3 months) with $15k minimum credit limit. $295 annual fee + $75 Qantas Program Fee
2. 70,000 Qantas Points ($3k spend in 3 months) with $6k minimum credit limit. $124 annual fee + $75 Qantas Program Fee

Previously had no issues with St George/Westpac so hoping this goes through without any issues.

Hope this helps.

Enjoy the long weekend!

Edit: Credit to cuy - If you sign up to a free transaction account first, then sign up to this card, its $139 instead of $295

Amplify Qantas Platinum (2) for existing customers has a reduced card fee of $49 in the first year (reverts to $124 thereafter) + $75 annual Qantas Rewards Program fee. The bonus offer is 60,000 Qantas Points in year 1 when you spend $3k or more on eligible purchases in the first 90 days from card approval and an extra 10,000 points after your first eligible purchase in year 2 (T&Cs apply).

OP should edit the post and include this. This is the bargain. I went to st george and open an account this week just for this deal.

      • +1

This is the real deal, not OPs

      • i can find this ^ statement on the website. where did you get it from?

    • funny there seems to be some bug - when i click apply now it boots me back to the internet banking

      • I had the same. I just ended up applying through the front (not via login portal) and during the application it will ask you to login.

        • +2

oh i found the reason, it opens up as a new window - and my browser(s) were blocking this new window opening

      • +1

Yeah, I found that too. Overall it was a terrible sign up experience - had to submit documents multiple times and then ring them after a few weeks to follow up. They also charged me the full $295 card fee even though I opened a transaction account online first. Had to call and ask for a refund, so just watch out for that.

      • I kept getting bugs even though on the browser, and it opened up a new window and I logged in from there.

Much easier to just do it via their mobile banking app.

    • is there a minimum deposit need to maintain on the transactions account?

      • +1

        No, and fee free.

    • Which account should I sign up for?
They have 3 options on the App: 1. Complete Freedom 2. Maxi Saver Account 3. Incentive Saver Account

  • +1

The 70k pts variant seem a bit more compelling in my books. Thanks OP.

    • +6

Just note the bonus offer is 60,000 Qantas Points in year 1 when you spend $3k or more on eligible purchases in the first 90 days from card approval and an extra 10,000 points after your first eligible purchase in year 2 (T&Cs apply).

      • +3

I signed up for this a month ago, points paid in 1st statement received them yesterday

And yes it’s 60k points, cancelling card today

I signed up via Bank of Melbourne, make sure you open an account so you get a cheaper annual fee for being existing customer

        • Did cancelling the card got partial annual fee refund?

          • +1

@cardiology: No I don’t bother asking for prorata anymore, didn’t think any banks did it really

          • +1

@cardiology: literally did this last week and got refund from St George. Full fee. It never hurts to try, be friendly with your rep and pop the question after requesting the cancellation

            • @reus94: I just called up and also received annual fee refund, thanks for suggesting it!

    • Why is the lower one more compelling?

      • Some people would find the Platinum card offer more attractive because it still provides a good amount of bonus points but requires only half the spend ($3k instead of $6k) within 3 months, has a much lower minimum credit limit ($6k instead of $15k), and has a much lower first year card fee ($49 instead of $139) for existing customers.

Other people would find the Signature card offer more attractive, depending on personal preferences and circumstances.

If this is a deal, option 2 is more favourable in terms of spending requirements and annual fee as extra 20k points doesn't worth more than $100 in reality.

    • I find every 10k is rougly $100

      • Where does that come from? Flight upgrades?

        • +3

Rough rule of thumb, 1 point = $0.01 so 10,000 points = $100. In general you can and will do better than that if using for flight rewards and in particular if getting higher category rewards such as business.

        • +2

18000 for a Perth to Melb/Syd flight one way.
You can't get a flight under $200 these days.
          That's the 10k is $100 for me

        • -1

Hotel stays at hotels $300 a night to roughly 30k points.

    • -2

Its an extra 30k if you keep it only for the first year.
If you have a st george acc, the difference is less than $100 between 2 cards.
But spending 6k is quite a challenge

  • +3

Platinum card annual fee is only $49 if you already have an account wiht them.

  • +7

    6k spend for 90k doesn't seem great

  • After spending 6k do you need to wait for 3 months then the points go in?

    • I signed up for the 60k points deal a month ago, met spend within the month and received points yesterday so I expect the same for other card

  • Looks like both have complimentary travel insurance

  • +7

Man these annual fees are getting trash.

  • What’s the exclusion period if you previously had a St George credit card?

    • Normally 12 months from the cancellation date - that's been my experience with st George anyway. I think a bank (that is not at George) has moved to an 18 month exclusion period but most banks are still 12.

    • +1

Be warned .. St George can typically knock back even if you have excellent credit rating for applying cards frequently

      • yup recently rejected by st george and citi

  • Option 2 seems reasonable for me Thanks

  • -2

I had the same card. I have cancelled this card only last month. Can I get back on it again or is there a waiting period.

    • +1

      12 month

      • -1

Thanks for the info .beats me why I have been downvoted on asking a genuine question!

  • +3

    T&C
Existing customers who currently hold an Amplify, Amplify Platinum or Amplify Signature card issued by St.George, Bank of Melbourne or BankSA, or who have held one in the last 12 months, or Credit Card Product Switches, upgrades or Westpac group staff are not eligible for this offer. The bonus Qantas Points will be credited to your Points balance within 12 weeks after the eligible spend criteria is met.

    • Do you know if St george/BoM/SA consider the Amplify Rewards and Amplify Qantas 2 different products with separate 12 month waiting periods? or they consider them the same?

      • My understanding is they are treated the same. It's Amplify either way, just that you pay an additional $75 fee if you want your Amplify to earn Qantas Points instead.

  • Open the new freedom transaction account and you can get $40 cashback with $40 Colesworth spend over 4 months. Then also qualify for reduced annual fee on the cc?

  • Is this card involved manual process or fully automated like Citibank ? My recent application with Westpac rejected so just checking. Thanks

    • +1

I don't know, but I moved to St George a year ago when refinancing and can confirm their credit cards team is a pack of clowns.

  • Any comment/experience with recent pro-rata/full refund of annual fee post early cancellation of a westpac credit card?

I'm finding QF really difficult to book high value seats (J and above) but my travels are mostly to asia SEA and NZ. The widely promoted reward plus seats are trash in terms of $ value/pt. I tend to go for non QF cards for the flexibility to convert to KF

    • Never had issues with myself, harder for QFF than VFF but gotta play the game right

      • +1

yeah.. best to collect both and use whatever.

      • My experience with QF - for business classic rewards book well in advance (360+ days) and with your origin point outside of Australia, and finding J class becomes a lot easier.

        • -1

Dunno how you do 360 days plus, even if you are gold or above

          https://community.pointhacks.com/t/when-do-award-seats-becom…

        • Yes I only look one year ahead. The problem for me is I am looking on partner airlines without status hence they are usually gone before availability opens up

          • +1

@May4th: Yes I am in the same boat. I found JAL was the one airline where I was still able to get good seats, and they have a good J class product. That said, I still prefer velocity for these reasons, it's much easier to get good seats on good airlines without jumping through so many hoops.

          • +1

@May4th: I don't believe status matters when it comes to partner airline availability, I believe it would become available to all QFF members at exactly the same time.

However, the challenge is that partner airlines provide availability to other airlines at different timeframes, which can vary widely. For example - Qatar Airways Rewards: Velocity Members Get Priority over Qantas.

It’s also no longer possible to book Qatar Airways reward seats with Qantas points in any class of travel more than 249 days in advance. Qatar Airways releases award availability to other partner airlines up to 360 days before departure.

Qantas Frequent Flyer members getting their first access to Qatar Economy award seats 249 days out is a pattern that we’ve observed over the past month. It seems to be the “new normal”.

Meanwhile, the American Airlines website is currently only showing Qatar Airways award availability for travel up to 179 days (around six months) in advance.

  • What’s the better deal: the 90,000 or 60,000 points offer?

    • This: https://www.stgeorge.com.au/personal/credit-cards/rewards/am…

It’s 96k points with Velocity 20% bonus until 30th June and only $99 fee with a bank account.

      • You need to transfer once in May and June for the 20% bonus, so not possible anymore?

        • +1

No you don’t. You just need to enable auto-transfer.
          https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/partners-offers/transf…

          • @nightelves: If you applied today and got approved straight away you wouldn't get any points credited by the end of June anyway

            So no

            • @MrThing: Got reject because of name not match on 31 May 2024. Not put in a new velocity account of name matching after 2 Jun for auto transfer, will i still eligible for the 20% bonus?

              • @a1234my: Auto-transfer does not require you having to transfer in May and June. That’s only for manual transfer.

            • +1

@MrThing: You get the points two days after making the spend. I know as I already completed this card and auto-transfer is two days later.

              • @nightelves: What about points that already in the account, my case is nab reward

                • @a1234my: You have to go over to nab credit card post and ask that question. This is St George.

          • @nightelves: No auto transfer still require to transfer in June

Velocity members will receive 20% bonus Velocity Points when they opt in to Auto-Transfer on their eligible credit card with their Participating Partner and automatically transfer points from their Participating Partner to Velocity into Velocity Points between 12:00am AEST 1 May 2024 and 11:59pm AEST 30 June 2024 (“Promotion Period”).

  • has the qantas fee gone up? not sure it was always 75… rip off.

    • It's gone up for a year or so now.
      Across all banks as well

  • +2

Does any one know if St george/BoM/SA consider the Amplify Rewards and Amplify Qantas 2 different products with separate 12 month waiting periods?

Or would they fall under the same 12 month waiting period

    • same product and systems etc - so same waiting period.

  • Pretty bad experience, got rejected on a good income, no comms on rejection. Had to ring to find out.

    • I had to chase repeatedly to get updates on why the card approval was taking so long… it felt like I was trying to get a home loan!

      • +1

I already had home loan with them. After appying it showed in my online banking. After a couple of days the application disappeared… Apprently it was rejected but no comms… oh well. Bye St G, my home loan will also go somewhere else.

        • Yeah their communication is terrible, they never contact you, you are often on hold for an hour + to talk to them. Terrible bank.

    • Same here. Only been rejected twice ever for CC, both times were StGeorge.

So I’m applying for their Platinum card this time. Glutton for punishment lol

      • were you approved?

        • they still haven't replied after I uploaded all the docs they asked for 2 weeks ago lol.

          Not holding my breath.

          What a shambles

    • -4

Show me on the doll how st George touched you

  • +1

Also don't forget (once open) to go to the link to apply for your 2 complimentary lounge passed - they don't get added to your QFF automatically like other cards.

    • +2

lol, good to know. This is the link to apply for it https://loungepass.stgeorge.com.au/.

Considering each lounge can be sold at around $40. It's an offset of $80 if there is no plan to use the lounge.

      • Can be sold easily at $120 on eBay, if you can get seller fee waived

        • Wew, thanks didn't know it before

        • +1

Didn't QF start cracking down on this?
