Cheapest price in a couple of years for this scoop, I think.

This is the only scoop I've used that I'd consider a worthy upgrade to a spoon, but make sure never to put it in the dishwasher.

    why cant it go dishwasher

    • +2

It's made from aluminum, dishwashing tablets abit too hard.

Looks like this after a single trip through the dishwasher. Note the oxidation rubbing off onto the ice cream.

      • The last comment is gold: I know this is an old post but is the ice cream safe to eat if it has this coating on it?

        • +1

Only if you are aluminium deficient

this is a crap product, don't see the point of this product…

        just use a spoon
dishwasher safe and many people have plenty of spoons

          • -2

@tonester: the reasons you link for buying this are dumb..

if you have bent a spoon scooping ice cream then you are doing it wrong
you scoop it by gliding it across and don't try to get really thick scoops (this is a spoon not a specific ice cream scooper with a thick metal neck)

I have never bent a spoon scooping ice cream
and I doubt ice cream would taste any different whether it was scoop with a spoon or this specific ice cream scooper..

Also the third reason where that person ran the spoon under hot water which creates ice crystals is stupid..
You don't need to run a spoon under hot water before scooping it, then there is no ice crystals.

The fact that this product can oxidize and rub off that aluminum is just dumb and not very durable.

  • Thanks OP. :)

Also, for anyone who wants to go with Amazon AU and a bit faster delivery, it's $28: https://amzn.asia/d/6fshKQu. Seems to be the cheapest it's hit for AU in the past year.

Imagine how much homebrand neopolitan you could buy for $24.84…

6, the answer is 6. No need to imagine

We have the Kitchen Aid one and it's pretty good… Got it free…

    • Just use a soup spoon and take the whole bucket.. eat it like you mean it!

    • Lucky you. I paid for my OXO one which I'm happy with

        Lucky you.

It wasn't luck. It was a promotion.

Bought into the hype with one of these, used it for several months, made no discernible difference scooping up hard ice cream, got lazy and hated this being one of the only things we had to hand wash so bought a stainless steel one instead. Would not get it if I had another do around.

    • Over 7k ppl saying its 4+ stars and you saying its only worth 1 star ?😬

      • +1

I'm not indicating it is one star. The quality for what it is is good. However, I am lazy, have a dishwasher that I want to take advantage of, and hate having to go out of my way to wash this one single item by hand. If you frequently wash things by hand then go for it, it won't be any extra work for you.

One other thing to note, despite it supposedly transferring heat from your hand to the ice cream to make it easier to scoop, it made no such impact for me. Then again, I primarily buy hard ice creams, like Aldi's Indulge, as opposed to airier ones (which this scoop may work much better for).

        • Even if you in warm water, hard ice cream would be challenge. Btw is 2-Ounce is fair size ?

        • I hold the scoop in my left hand to prewarm it while I'm getting out bowls and the ice cream, then start scooping with my right hand and switch the scoop back to my left hand for a few seconds if I feel like my right hand is getting too cold. That lets the scoop cut through hard ice cream for me, though it still takes quite a bit of steady force.

fyi best dishwasher-safe scoop seems to be the Sumo, which has a pointed tip similar to the original Oxo and Prepara

Would you be willing to donate it to me if I pay for postage? :D

  • Aldi ones are like $5 and made of steel that can go in the dishwasher

    • Stainless steel's thermal conductivity is too low to make a good ice cream scoop, unfortunately. I'd rather save the $5 and use a spoon.

LOL you are overthinking/over science-ing this ice cream stuff

Have had zero issue scooping ice cream with a regular spoon

  • Goddamn it I have a 2.5 (I paid same though) and I find it a touch too large. Wish I had bought this 2 oz instead.

    • whys that? harder to scoop? I thought bigger is better for putting on waffles and ice cream cones

      • +1

Just serving size etc It's still fine though

+1 the best ice cream scoop

    • I have the OXO one and love it but would be good to compare side by side with the Zeroll
