      • Most searches say CPU power does not provide an advantage to something only providing wireless AP duties anyway.

eh, wi fi 7 is now the default requirement… (not really, just because so many get worked up over wi fi 6, they can now realise even this is now outdated tech)

  • These were my first venture into mesh, installed them in an office in the middle of a building, they are blazing fast and have decent coverage through many office walls 35m away (i.e. at the lunch room at the end of the building). These support internet access for a modern office with up to 15 people hanging off it - FTTP 250/100
I was happy with the RRP 2 of them for $329, this is a bargain if you need a mesh system. (And I don't like to support Amazon :)
And if you don't need 3, then the officeworks one above is great too

Don't forget that JB Hi-Fi sells the XD4S 3-Pack. So you can hit them up with a price match today since Amazon AU still has it for $249. Best thing is you get over the counter warranty if you can do a store click and collect. Try the online live chat to do a price match.

I'll repost the site link for the product at JB. You can check whether it's in stock at the local JB store.

I price matched with JB Hi-Fi today. Spoke to Matilda L via online chat. She asked me for the link (thank you, OP!), and explained if i walked into a store, a JB worker might deny the price match, so she created a basket for me to pick up at my chosen local store. What a legend. I ❤️'d her and gave a glowing review.

Anyways. I will be setting up this today. Heres the set-up plan:

    NBN Box > ASUS Zen router > SG1005P Switch (>Node 1) (>Node 2)

All backhaul ethernet connections (i have RJ45 wall plates throughout home when i built)

    My previous plan was:
    NBN > ER605 (router) > SG1008P switch (>OC200 controller) (> EAP615 wall-mount to front of house) (>EAP615 wall-mount to back of house)

This was mainly because i wanted PoE to the nodes and wall mounted for cleaner look, but i didnt want to go through headache of setting up the er605 router.

But im going with ASUS Zen because easier setup, good value, and when there are newer wifi-mesh packs with PoE, i will upgrade.

  • Sweet.
Gonna pull the trigger on the AX86U as well

  • Does anyone know if this worth replacing the ASUS Lyra Trio?
Using Lyra Trio at our unit at the moment, connected to HG659 (FTTB 100/40) which is working fine but tends to drop off now and then due to the amount of brick walls we have in the units.

  • Does this create a new Wifi or is it a true extension of the same wifi?

It extends the WiFi network. AiMesh is a mesh network so it extends the existing WiFi network being sent from the router in Wireless Router mode (the first ASUS AiMesh router onthe network. Generally the router which is connected directly to the NBN through the WAN port). The WiFi client adapter connects to the closest available AiMesh node for the best WiFi signal strength.

      • Does that mean with the ASUS AiMesh, the mesh network can be configured as daisy chain? Or is this by default? Or the configuration a star wifi mesh?

Would really apprciate it if anyone can help me answering this question

        • Every node is automatically given the same configuration. As in whatever you configure the router that's in Wireless Router mode (first router) as is also replicated in the nodes. As in the WiFi settings etc. It becomes and transmits as one single whole WiFi network from all the nodes and i think whichever node is closest to the client WiFi device is what the device connects to. That's what a mesh WiFi network is.

  • Is this a good replacement for the Netgear R8000? Been meaning it replace it for awhile.

The wifi barely reaches the back of the apartment. Other thing is that I have pihole/unbound setup so I don't know if its going to be a headache incase all the IP address change. I had to follow a guide to set it up the first time.

Bought it and was really easy to set up - works wonders.

  • Bought one the other day and set it up yesterday, works really well, installation was very easy (took around 15 mins to auto-setup). Speeds are reaching roughly 500Mbps when theres a direct line of sight to another box around 15 meters away.

  • Did anyone have problems setting this up? Using the App was frustratingly long and I ended up going to a browser on my phone —> asusrouter.com to set it up, worked much more efficiently.

I've connected all mine with ethernet backhaul: NBN Box > ASUS Zen router > SG1005P Switch (>Node 1) (>Node 2)

Then 30min after setting up, I cant get into asusrouter.com to continue configuring…I get a message "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN" and sometimes certain websites including ozbargain i cant access I get either "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN" or " ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE".

    • Have you tried turning off all the routers at the power points and then back on again. Which performs a hard reset. To see if that fixes the problem?.

      • I finally got it to work. Here's a few things pointers:
        - Highly recommend to go straight into WEB GUI nce you've connected the router
        - Once connected, THEN connect the nodes (via ethernet works well…i used a switch to have both nodes connected at the sme time/// connecting via WiFi takes the longest 5min of you life), THEN, in WEB GUI, Add "AiMesh Nodes", done
        - If you're connecting everything via wired/ethernet backhaul like i've done, choose "ethernet backhaul" ON.
        - Fastest internet experience I've ever had…270Mbps D/l and 25Mbps uploads with Launtel Home Superfast (On a trial 7 days atm). I went with them because I only use internet at home 3 days a week and I can pause/stand-by the other days. Ends up costing $11.30 per week for 100Mpbs download/25Mpbs uploads. If anyone is in a similar situation and want to join, reach out for my referral code.
