Seems like a pretty good deal for a Chonky Gaming Laptop, came across it while looking for something with an I9. A previous deal was for slightly more with 32GB RAM however a the display had a lower refresh rate of 165hz compared to 240hz with this laptop. RAM slot appears to be accessible so that you can change it but I'm unsure if its 1x16 GB or 2x8GB (regardless, the price seems pretty good even if you have to fork out extra if you're dying for 32 GB).

The previous deal I linked earlier references a deal ongoing at the time for Dell Student Cashback but I'm not sure if that's still going on or not, if anyone can confirm maybe post a comment or something.

  • G series body size looks massive!

    • Yeah exactly, I personally wouldn't buy this as I bring my current laptop (Zephyrus G16) everywhere in my backpack. I think I'd be headed to an early grave if I needed to haul this chonker around.

But that said, for people who maybe won't move it around as much, people who have an easy way of transporting it or maybe you're the Hulk, I see this as an absolute win.

Marked as expired but it should still work.

  • Any desktop on sale these days from dell ? :(

Just had a flick through their options between 2-2.5k. Sadly looks like they're specced the same as laptops for the same price which at that point, you might as well get a laptop or just build custom because of that price hike.

Seems that TechFast and the like are the only ones putting out some decent pre-builts nowadays from what I've seen.

To be honest though, no reason to be particularly attached to Dell as well though, especially after their data breach.

      • Sigh, I guess.
        I got a good deal back in 2019, i7-9700 plus gtx1660ti was like 1200 -1400.

Still running strong but looking for a upgrade

Didn't know about the data breach yikes. I'll look into fechfast then :)

Is it just me or does the page not even list what GPU is in that thing? All it says on the page is 'and the sheer power of NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 40 Series graphics'

      • +2

Yeah same, not much info about what GPU is that, plus thats RRP now, will sure wait for their sale

That Legion has a 4070 RTX, the Legion has a better all metal case than the G16 and a higher TGP with less weight.

        • Correct me if I am wrong, but isnt only from Legion 7 up will get full metal build, 5 only getting metal lid, right?

          • @kaikor: Yeah sorry I have one sitting on my desk at work, half of the bottom shell is plastic, you don't really see it though as it faces down, my bad sorry. But I'll stick with my lighter and better build quality comments.

Tried to spec the equivalent on the lenovo website and the i9 would only ship with the 4070…
So I have reason to assume that it would be a 4070… But would be safer to ask someone that worked there.

Does anyone know if you buy this through Bing Lee whether you can still opt into the 3 year extended warranty through lenovo?

16gb memory appears to be 4060.

        32gb appears to be 4070.

Bing lees listing would be for a 4060

    • it’s 4070 on ebay

    • that Binglee legion is a 4060. It was mistakenly titled 4070 a few days ago.

Source: Bought it and arrived today to only find out its 4060. If you Google the product code (83DG007RAU), you'll see on JB hifi that it has a 4060.

      • oh no, so wasted all your time and need to do a refund now? no way they will sell a 4070 Legion at this price!

Frustrating! Make sure you make them send a courier to pick it up, and not try and force you into going into a store.

For future reference (and for anyone else reading this), Lenovo has a handy Product Spec Reference page where you can check the specific product code.

    No num pad :(

  • So tempted.. With 4 year premium support comes to $2521 with 7% student discount!
Works out to be $630 per year for a 4070 laptop! So tempting! I know technology will move on over 4 years, but a 4070 should still be pretty future proof even in 3-4 years right?
Portability is not a concern - understand it's got a brick for a charger. I'm wondering though if the 16gb ram would be a limiting factor or is this overcome with the better graphics card? Suppose RAM is always upgradable. Should I bight the bullet?

My last purchase was this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/703148 at $999.
This is admittedly significantly more, but will be quite an upgrade right?

    • Jarrod's done a review on it, albeit one that has 32GB RAM and the lower specced screen option: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDhI8vUhzP8

    • As with all things laptop/desktop-performance related, really depends on your use-cases, however one thing for sure is a 4070 will definitely let you take better advantage of the QHD 240hz display. With esports titles you can easily push frames beyond the refresh rate depending on the settings.

For AAA games the results will be varied, especially when more and more games are coming out unoptimised and we end up waiting on developers to fix performance issues only after release… Generally though, 4070 should be future proof for modern games at modest settings.
