      Maybe. Upload will from home will be faster but how's the wifi coverage to the camera?

      I dont know anything about google cameras but in the general sense of it..
      It would be faster when watching Live footage as i do not expect google to hold it and then feed it to you.
      Using Playback i would assume would not improve as google would hold those not your camera.

              @jv: Can you provide 3 references that are relevant to this conversation? Specifically in relation to your claim "plans should be getting similar speeds and prices within the next year". I'm yet to find anything that suggests residential customers will get 200 or 400 upload.

    Currently on Leaptel 250/100 plan for $120 which has been excellent. Great international speeds via GSL Networks. Does anyone know how Aussie compare for international speeds? What upstream do they use?

      I found Aussie to be the hardest to stay with, The moment your deal ends they wont even negotiate a deal thats in between a "new customer" and "existing customer"
      However with superloop/leaptel/exetel its so easy.. I havent bothered to churn to aussie in years as its not worth it.

        That's not necessarily true - basically, we started with a 250/20 plan, something like that, HFC in Melbourne. We got $20 off per month for six months, so I think it was $89 per month. Then there was a promo, $20 off if you upgraded speed (with rules), so we upgraded to 1000/50 (I think, can't remember exactly what the speed is and I can't be bothered checking) and then we got $20 off for that, bringing it back down from $109 at the time to $89. That continued for around four months.

        It then came to an end, I contacted Aussie Broadband via their live chat, told them that if I had to pay $109 or more per month I would swap to another provider. They pretty much instantly said "oh, yeah, turns out there's this deal that's only for existing customers, we're happy to give you the $40 off for another six months".

        So now we have 1000/50 HFC with Aussie Broadband for another six months, it was so easy, I really wasn't expecting it. In terms of our actual speeds - "only" getting, on average, 700/40, approx. The wiring must be dodgy, but I mean, it's HFC, I was never anticipating nor needing 1000/50. It is still far faster than when we were on the 250/20 plan. Again, I can't remember the exact numbers, but that recount is more or less what happened.

        And in any event - far easier to deal with Aussie Broadband than many other ISPs we've been with. Their live chat has been super responsive for me, means I don't have to call and I'm connected quickly, and if you call, it's an Aussie-based support team. I don't know - if I had to pay $109 or more for the plan we're on, or even $99 or more for 250/20 or whatever it is… I'd be looking elsewhere.

        We're just lucky to not be living rurally - my parents only have fixed wireless. Having said that, and as a PSA for anyone, they are able to get 300mbps to 500mbps, averaging around 400mps, with the new "Telstra 5G modem scheme". It's $80 a month, only available for selected postcodes, naturally the speed varies greatly, depending on your wifi tech and also your location (my parents are still 6km from a Telstra tower and get those speeds, even in peak periods).

        So it isn't the best scheme of all time, but they've gone from 40/5 or something terrible via fixed wireless to those speeds I listed. Their TP-Link Deco X75 system keeps the signal strong throughout their whole five-bedroom house, the main Deco and the furthest away are both hardwired, there are two others in the middle on wireless backhaul. So on the whole, I think I did a pretty good job setting up their internet. But again, the Telstra 5G setup isn't perfect for everyone - and I feel terrible for people who can't access it, and are stuck with the worst form of NBN, as we were for years. It just sucks. My parents don't even live far from the nearest town, which has FTTN and FTTC, I believe, it's only around 5km away.

        Before anyone says "Starlink is the answer!" - our neighbour has it, they had the money to pay for it (as many don't), and they get speeds worse than my parents, and it isn't much more reliable than the Telstra 5G setup. Still, that's a great option for those who dislike or can't get the Telstra deal, or who feel that 1000GB is too little for them (if you use more than that, your speeds get drastically reduced, like phone plans)… but the outlay is pretty big. Not everyone has $600+ lying around to just drop on Starlink.

        Final thing - with the Telstra 5G deal - the modem/router is included and it's month-to-month. So if you get it, hate it, you just send back the modem/router, and that's it. At least, that's what my parents told me 😂

    compared to nbn/OptiComm 1000/50, what is the advantage of going for FTTP ? Is it more reliable? I am attempting to get nbn/OptiComm 1000/50 due to its much faster download speed.

      If you are in an area serviced by OptiComm (generally newish estates built before NBN) then you will have FTTP - it's all that OptiComm have - fibre to each house.
