any cashback offers to combine with?

Does spintel offer Opticomm plans? I've entered an Opticomm address it says NBN is available…

    • +1

      SpinTel doesn't service OptiComm.

      • their prequal thinks my Opticomm address is an NBN address lol

  • +3

Can anyone vouch for Spintel? Eg drop-outs, speed consistency, support, etc… Looks like a solid deal

    • +11

Used it previously, never had an issue.
I think I'll sign up to this, given that Exetel is currently 79.99 for 50/20

      • Cheers

        • +1

i was with them for nearly 2 years before taking on the superloop deal last black friday. cant fault them much tbh.

      • I live in Freo. Using the 250 plan. My ping while gaming is way more variable compared to some of the other good isp's. I'll be churning soon.

        • +11

All traffic is routed via their one single PoP in Sydney, that's why I've never looked any further into Spintel. No good for anyone in WA or really anyone outside of NSW.

        • Trying calling Superloop t match the price

    • +9

SpinTel should be ok in NSW. You will get higher latency if you live anywhere else in Oz.

      • +2

Right, thanks. Seeing some mixed reviews on reddit/online, but not sure if most ISPs would have similarly mixed reviews too

        • There are ISPs that have better backhaul networks with lower latency and faster average speeds but you pay more for it.

    • +6

Spintel only has Sydney PoP, so for Melbourne people you can have latency issues from time to time as everything has to go through sydney. I had slow speedtests during peak hours when choosing melbourne servers (and full speed when choosing sydney servers), because of congestion on the sydney<->melbourne peering line they use. On Superloop now, and things are beautiful.

Save yourself the pain and go with another provider. Tested again a few years ago and was abysmal (
      I was getting ~40 on a 100DL plan).

Depends on your area but at the time only parts of Sydney were getting good service.

I recommend Leaptel (constantly get ~106 DL ~19 UL).

ABB, launtel etc would be the ones to look at also. Cheapest isn't always best.

    • Used them in Sydney a couple of years ago as part of my churning and I was happy. Not an online gamer though, but for any other usage I was happy and it felt faster than other ISPs I've had (which are many).

    • They used to be good for me a few years ago but when I switched to them recently I found they would consistently drop out early in the morning causing me to reset my router. I’m south west Sydney based. I’ve now moved back to Leaptel.

    • I've used Spintel, Tangerine, Mate, Leaptel and Aussie Broadband and found them all essentially the same. If your needs aren't unusual, just go with whoever is cheapest.

Paying $80 for 50mb with TPG, this seems a good deal.

    • +1

I’m paying $79.95 with TPG with a free a 12 month Speed Boost to 100mb but it ends in may (Last year they put my plan price up $5 and offered a Speed Boost for 12 months) I’am to thinking about this deal. Bit worried about the comment above stating higher latency if living outside of NSW

      • +1

Same here, and the price will be $84.95 starting this month. I heard exiting TPG is such a pain, they charge you for one more month after you transfered.

        • Cheers for the info about the one month scam. I whinged to their retention team last year about their service and pricing. They gave me one month free so if I switch technically I’m still even with them.

          • +2

@J B S: One trick you can try (and if you deem it unethical so be it) is to remove your payment details when you churn before you terminate. Your payment for the last month will fail, and they will threaten to terminate your service immediately. Desired effect achieved.

    • +3

I'm paying $80/month (for 12 months) for 1000/40 with more via CommBank yellow so whilst this is good. There is better out there

      • that must be an old price. more via commbank is now showing $109.
There are no better price like you claimed.

        • I only signed up with them last week.

You need to go into CommBank yellow via the CommBank app and search for more. It will give you a unique code that gives you a 40% discount

          • @thorpef1: Thanks. Still showing $94.5 for me with the code, not $80.

            Spintel is a better deal.

    • +1

I've seen big banner ads stating tpg will beat any nbn competitor price for 12mths. I haven't tried it because I'm happy with my provider.

  • +7

Do they have a credit card surcharge and do you need to give 30 days etc notice to leave them? I left Superloop and gave them 50 days notice, they still didn't disconnect my service and tried to charge me another month. I had to call the clowns 3 times and explain to them how I gave them 50 days notice.

  • +3

Wondering if have CGNAT? Or able to opt out ?

    • +1

$5 a month to opt out, $11 for static IP: https://www.spintel.net.au/storage/files/shares/CIS/NBN_CIS_…

      • +10

Oh that sucks, most ISPs I've dealt with turn off CGNAT for free. Deal breaker.

        • +3

          agree

        • +1

Just curious why its a deal breaker and what else could be done to solve not having a static or dynamic IP?

Cloudflare tunnels and Tailscale work great with CGNAT to get around most issues.

I unless you’re hosting something that requires a direct connection, would something like the above solve it for you?

          • +4

            @athk:

Just curious why its a deal breaker

"you’re hosting something that requires a direct connection"

            Exactly.

            • @ezzaf: Exactly. What this dude said.

              • @dna level c: Sure, it was why I was asking, if the two options I mentioned could have solved it for you, then it’s a win right?

                • +1

@athk: No, paying to "solve" something that shouldn't be an issue in the first place, while negating potential savings, only encourages this ISP (and perhaps others) to begin charging for something that shouldn't be charged for in the first place.

                  • @dna level c: IPv4 allocations are getting slim, you should be blaming big tech for hoarding them when they don’t need them… ie Facebook etc

But I agree yes it should be standard without cost for a minimum dynamic IPs

          • +2

@athk: you can't VPN back home with cgnat.

            • @eAgle-eYe: With Tailscale you can?

              • @athk: Agree, but you're talking about proxying - I'd rather go with a dynamic/static public IP on my WAN FW/Router than having to go through setting up a proxy (additional footprint) and having to manage it.

          • @athk: Keep getting a couldn't connect to host error when playing COD on PS5 with another party member on the same connection.

    • +1

SpinTel use CG-NAT. $5/month or $11/month to turn off CG-NAT.

Dynamic Public IP Address: You can request a dynamic public IP address, which allows you to configure port forwarding. This option comes with an additional monthly charge of $5 on top of your current plan.

Static IP Address: If you prefer a Static IP address, which remains constant and is ideal for reliable remote access to your network, you can request one for an additional $11 per month on a residential plan.

      What is CG-NAT?.

My TPG 250/20 went from 85 to 95 and went up again to 99, i guess its my time to make a move, thanks OP

    • Last time I was with tpg they were terrible, have they at least improved for that price??

    • Yep, I am in the same boat with TPG. Will be definitely leaving them if they don't budge in their prices/plans

  • Anyone having issues with the payment step page not proceeding when clicking "Next"?

    • Try a different browser or device?

      • Tried different browsers and devices.

    • +4

You need to do your research better

    • +3

Are the "other providers" you're looking at Telstra, Optus and TPG by any chance? They have really bad pricing and aren't very good, should just go with something else.

    • -3

If you were friendly with your neighbours (and they weren't unreasonable downloaders/seeders), you could easily share a 1000/50 plan amongst 2-4 households.

      • +15

        Risky territory..

        • +3

          Immediate family, fair enough perhaps.

Neighbours? No thanks, bill payer has a tonne of liability.

    • +1

I'll need to take back your ozbargain membership sorry

  • +4

For life of plan? Does that mean they wont jack up the price like the others in the future. That's insane. Jump ship NOW NOW NOW. Thanks OP

    • +5

Usually with offers like this, it's for the life of the plan, until they decide to raise the price lol

    • +2

I think it is life time discount, which means always $9.95 off current price

    • That means they can retire the plan if they feel they're not making enough money from it. They'll let you know when that's happening, and the choice you have is to move to another one of their plans (likely crappier) or move to another ISP.

  • +3

Currently with Leaptel and quite happy with them, but it's costing me $99/month… and they screwed up bills a few months ago..

How does Spintel compare to Leaptel?

    Thanks!

    • +2

Can’t say enough good things about leaptel. Promo pricing of $89/month for 1000/50. Always helpful during nbn upgrade. This might be cheaper but I’m wary of CGNAT and their overall experience just to save a few bucks. I’m down with reliability if it’s in the same price ballpark. Can’t say I saturate my 1000 down much anyway.

  • currently paying $95 for superloop 100/40.
can get 1000/50 with dynamic IP for the same price here..

    speeds & quality etc comparable?

both of us do lots of WFH

    • Jump on live chat tomorrow and see if theyll offer a better deal before cancelling

      • Ive done it few time and NEVER through the chat.
They always mention to give a call for this.

    • I'm with superloop since the initial promotion. Just call billing and ask for cheaper then say you're cancelling and you'll get to the retention team. I called last week and on $90 for my second 12 months of 250/25. They will offer $95 so be firm.

      • +2

I’ve had to do this every 6 months and I’m over it now to be honest.

I’ll be moving and won’t bother returning if they make me waste 2+ hrs of my time every 6 months, why fight to stay when others offer better pricing.

  • Not for anyone who previously subscribed to the service. Please see conditions below.

"This promotion is strictly for first-time subscribers of eligible SpinTel services. Those with existing SpinTel services or those who previously subscribed to the service are ineligible. Each service is eligible for the offer once"

  • +2

just churned out - were OK but if based in QLD be wary everything routes via sydney so its a bit slower than other providers with local infrastructure here

    • Thanks for the heads up. I’m in Brissy, what speeds were you getting?

    • +1

Same, in Melbourne I had speed problems, their tech wasn't helpful.

      • +1

How bad? Also in Vic so serious tossing up considering our 100/40 plan is the same price as this 1000/50 plan. If I can still get 500/40 speeds it'd be an insane improvement, and hopefully without the ping issues.

  • 1000/50 isnt coming up for me. Im based in Perth. It shows 750/40 for $90 when I click on your link. Wonder why?

    • Looks like the original post was edited by a mod, but I believe the maximum speed SpinTel offers is 750.

      • Ok, makes sense now. Thank You!

    • +4

have a look the "Key Facts Sheet: NBN Services" the 750/40 is the "Typical evening speed 7pm till 11pm", the plan name is "1000Mbps/50Mbps Up"

  • +2

No point moving from superloop for $99 to $95 to this

    • -1

      Hand in your membership

  • Does anyone know why they ask for an ID during signing up? Do they do credit checks?

  • Might have to call superloop and say match or we walk, they've got us on 100/400 for $98, hard to say no to at least 7x the speed for $8 less!

  • +1

Do they offer a free FTTC to FTTP upgrade?

    • +3

Yeah you can go through SpinTel. I'd go through Leaptel since you're in Perth for lower latency and local tech support.

  • do they offer FTTC plan? or they only have FTTP and HFC

    • FTTC 100/20 $65/m. You should be eligible for FTTP with a $0 installation.

  • Anyone on Internode had any success using something like this to get them to move on their price?

  • This or Buddy for the 1000/50 plan? So 90$ vs 99$. Is it worth saving 9$ and give spintel a go? I remember 6 years ago having issues with billing and customer service was non existing.

    • Not if you care about the customer service and routing quality.
