What’s with this per day rate?

    • +28

Makes it really flexible, you can turn it up to fast speed one day and dial it way down on days you don’t need it.

        • 1000/400 ?

        • ‘Max speed’ doesn’t mean anything, we’d need to see numbers to compare.

          • @Kontiki: Yeah need someone to comment on speed, or ask Optus CS yourself if you want more details?

            The negs are real lol

            • @bcYield: Max speeds on Optus are based on the residential speed tiers, it's not even close to what this offers, which are business speed tiers, hence the much higher upload speeds (which are only on full fibre - FttP).

            • @bcYield: I assume you got negged because you mentioned Optus OR because you're not even a customer.

              • @BLAIL: From the word "max speed" it's definitely not 25 or 50, maybe is 100 or 250, but max should mean the highest speed they can offer to that premise.

Not to hard if the naggers try to think a little bit.

        • What's the max speed during an Optus outage?

          • @wakie: Minus 1000Mbps, but they will give you bonus data on your unlimited data NBN plan…

      • +3

If you're not planning to pause your NBN on any days, it's cheaper to just use an RSP with some sort of boost feature (e.g. Superloop or Exetel) for that sort of use case.

Edit: unless you want to increase your speeds by multiple tiers in which case I guess this deal works

        • I used to have Launtel - and I'd pause it during the week and use it on weekends only or FRI-SUN. I'd use my hotspot on other times.

  • well thats a first

  • +24

Best service ever, turn on fast or slow it down as you need, no need to pay a whole month when you only need a day or two super fast speed.
The ability to pause your service while on holiday is a bonus.

    • wow that's totally new to me. worth have a look. thanks for sharing your experience.

      • +10

FTTP min 100/20 is $3.1/day. $93 /30 days. that's the min if i want to have internet everyday. however i am paying $89 for 1000/50 right now. i guess it's not for me.

        • +1

Who are you with at the moment??

          • @notdealbot: I'm guessing Superloop?

          • @notdealbot: Leaptel offer 1000/50 for $89 if you organise your FTTN/FTTC upgrade to FTTP with them. That price is for 12 months.
I signed up with them prior to this price drop but I still get 1000/50 for $99 per month.

Launtel is more expensive as an ongoing service for me (at all speed tiers), and I wouldn't be able to connect just for a day or two here or there for higher upload speed on another UNI-D port, because 1.25Gbps is the max you can have active.

        • +1

i believe it is not for most people.

        • +1

          Who r u with?

        • AGL customers can get the speed for $69/mth for first 12 months. Yes Launtel is too expensive for me.

      • They also offer static IP, cost about $150 but after you don’t want to use the service anymore, they refund the $150. Like they hold your deposit until you give up the static IP or change service.

        • +1

Its a $100 refundable deposit for a static IP

    • but this is still expensive even if you go to the lowest rate. Superloop offers 5 speed boosts a month so go on a small plan then boost

    • +1

      Then why not upvote?

    • +1

How about posting a deal for once Cap?

  • +8

Leaptel ends up being better value unless you plan on pausing all the time. Launtel shills will talk up the customer service, but you don't need good customer service unless there's issues. At least their outages have decreased. The network wide outages multiple times a day for weeks on end were never fun.

    • +4

I don’t think that Launtel is big enough to have shills. And in my experience, their staff have been awesome. Disclaimer: have used them in the past, but not currently with them.

      • +3

        but not currently with them

        Why not?

      • I don’t think that Launtel is big enough to have shills

They had shills back when they employed 5 people 9 years ago and not 50 like now. There are a lot on social media and even undeclared reps here previously.

        • I am feeling like leaptel shills on this site too.

          • +1

@sfac: I use ABB and Telstra for my FTTP 😜

It's not shilling if one is cheaper than the other. This is OzBargain.

    • Shill? Like actually paying people to talk Launtel up on social media? I highly doubt it.

I myself is a happy Launtel customer. I came for the flexibility, found out that I don't change my plan all that often, but are staying for the service.

      • -3

You don't need money to be a shill. How long have you been with them? I've known before they went national.

        • If I'm not a genuine customer, then they absolutely need to pay me to talk them up on social media.

Haven't been with them for that long to be honest, just over a year ago when my area became eligible for FTTP upgrade. I was forced to jump ship from TPG because they did not participate in the free upgrade program.

Someone actually called me to try and convince me to stay (being a long term customer of 14 years after all), to whom I said, there's nothing you can do to make me stay, as I want FTTP and you are not enabling it.

        • I don't see your negative review on Product reviews - you gotta point them out if you got proof of shills.

          • @BLAIL: You shouldn't stalk my comments. Especially old ones - that can land you in trouble here.

            • @Clear: I stalk your comments mainly for Tablet deals.

              • @BLAIL: Good man. Let's go to an OzBargain meetup this year and you can see the emails ;)

    • +16

      The price has dropped.

      • -2

        Oh.. Thanks

        • +14

          You're welcome

  • +1

Thanks for sharing op! totally forgot about this deal and really wanted to use it mass transfer data from one cloud storage to another.

  • -4

So pricing's gone up but its a bargain?

    • +8

The price has gone down for faster upload plans.

    • +2

This is down a lot. I used the 1000/400 for a few months when it was $12/day but downgraded as it got too expensive, at $9 it's certainly tempting.

That being said, NBN is really (profanity) things over. Just about anywhere in the world 1000mbit is pretty average in terms of speed and costs a fraction of what we pay.

      • +3

Was in HK and could get Dual 1GB symmetrical circuits with auto failover and a switch for an extra $18AU/month.

        NBN is a global joke.

        • +7

I’m sure population density has nothing to do with it.

          • +2

@Randolph Duke: From a quick check, in France you can get 2000/600 for ~AU$70 ($55 for first 6 months) and 5000/1000 for AU$95 ($65 for first 6 months) even in regional towns with lower population densities

          • +2

@Randolph Duke: Are you saying that the NBN is not a joke?

You NBN defenders consistently raise the population density of Australia, but ultimately the infrastructure in metropolitan cities such as Sydney should be better than they are, given the amount of taxpayer dollars expensed. 3 per Km^2 does not apply here.

            • @Evanlet:

You NBN defenders consistently raise the population density of Australia, but ultimately the infrastructure in metropolitan cities such as Sydney should be better than they are, given the amount of taxpayer dollars expensed.

Take it up with the Libs, they castrated the rollout.

        • when you're 3 buildings away from a backbone things become a lot cheaper at scale.

  • Interesting… So this is truly on-demand? If I only need NBN one day a week, can I pause for six days then rinse and repeat?

    • That's right.

      • +1

        Magnificent!

        • When i was with Launtel before, I was told you had to pause it before a certain time(forgot) so that it would go through and then do the same if you wanted it resumed.

    • more on this - can we schedule it to be automated?

      • Doesn’t look like it. It’s more designed for people going on holidays, reading from the q&a. Still awesome. Perfect for the days when Boost is down lol

  • Leauntel

    See what I did ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

    • +2

      Nope. I'm daft.

    • +3

I thought what I said was pretty funny and creative considering Leaptel and Launtel sound so similar but instead I'm met with negative votes. ಥ‿ಥ

      • +2

I truly didn't get it but I didn't neg you. Here, have an upvote to make you feel better.

        • Thank you!

      • +1

I logged in to give you some interweb points too.
Now that you explained it I understand it and it is funny.

        • Thanks, it's appreciated! Hope you have a great day ☺️

  • +2

Launtel has saved me a few times when my internet didn't disconnect/reconnect cleanly. Connection also works straight from the nbn box via ethernet. Customer service is great, I am grateful to them!

ATM I have a regular provider, but I have Launtel paused and ready to use whenever I need it. It's particularly efficient when you go on holidays/travel a lot.

Tbh don't know when I'll ever use speeds that high, but it could be a bargain?

    • +1

This ^ I've used them for a week or so when I changed provider and the new provider stuffed up my connection. Called Launtel, had a new connection up and running on a different NBN port within 5 minutes, whilst still having my original connection enabled so i could yell at my ISP until they fixed it. Also have leftover funds ready to go in case it happens again

  • +2

I use them at two premises, one is a property I go to every fortnight or so, and it's easy to unpause the service before you get there, and pause when you go. It costs a fraction of a regular monthly service. The second option is on our FTTP connection at home on Port 2 - every so often Superloop on Port 1 plays up so it is just a matter of unpausing the Launtel connection until the Superloop service is sorted. Means no downtime for the business run from home.

  • +3

I am with Launtel. Slightly more expensive than the cheapest plans you can get but 100% reliable with speed, great customer service, so well worth it.

  • What's the lowest rate they can go to? Planning to go away for 1-2 weeks and want to know the "suspend" costs. Their website only shows $3.10 per day (100/20) as the cheapest option.

    • +3

Pretty sure it is zero. As in, set it for no service for that 1-2 weeks you're away. You literally get billed by the day for the service.

    • +2

Pause it all together for free or just use the 50c a day standby. Which is super low speed if you need to maintain connection.

  • Has anyone got experience with pricing after your new user rate ends? I’m coming up to the 2 year period or whatever it is and the non-discount pricing is eye watering. Do they just automatically renew the discount or something?

    • +1

About a month ago they launched their updated pricing.
Here's the other speed tiers they list for my service which is not with any discount codes. All pricing is daily.

      100/20: $3.10
      100/40: $3.50
      250/25: $3.90
      400/50: $4.10
      1000/50: $4.20

      • I've been on their 100/40 for over two years, and I love the service. I get around 105Mbit down uninterrupted 24/7. But with the new pricing, I'm getting ready to leave. I just don't know if any other services offer the 100/40 connection, seems most providers have switched to NBN's newer cheaper speed 100/20.

        • Leaptel, ABB and Superloop all still have 100/40.

ABB: need to select "all plans" for it to show up.

Leaptel: Need to select "full throttle" then "upload boost".

No idea why they hide it away!

  • +1

No wonder NBN CEO and various important roles have the highest earnings in the public sector.

  • Damo and Jewls are legendary.

  • No price drop on opticomm FTTP

  • my apartment building is only few years old has fibre connection (FTTB) yet highest speed I can get is 100/40 , is this something that NBN needs to do eg upgrade hardware to give faster speed to the building occupants? or am I stuck?

    Location ID: (Mod: Removed)
Access technology: Fibre To The Building
    Serviceability Date: 2020-03-27
    CSA Name: Pendle Hill, NSW
    Lat/Long: -33.7587723, 150.98819348
    Service Class: 13
    Estimated Speeds: 95 Mbps - 100 Mbps

    • FTTB is only advertised as 100/40 on NBNCo so that's to be expected. I'm assuming FTTB uses VDSL2 for the last mile to your apartment, similar to what FTTC is…

      • ok thanks

    • +3

You might wanna remove the LOC ID from your post. Someone can use that to find your exact address.

      • thanks … and thank you mods

  • basically don't drink coffee a day but buy their internet instead :D

LIBERal screwed NBN technology and LABor Screwed pricing by allowing it to sky rocket !!!

  • $4.50 is still toooo expensive.

    Getting 500/100 for around $96/month

    • Who are you with?

    • would also like to know who you're with.
