Seems like a good way to breathe some life into old phones for our regional friends.

breathe some life into our regional friends

@Muzeeb How are we still alive??

    Nothing is ever free.

  • I can diy battery change but too many fakes whats a reputable seller? with genuine battery?

    • +8

      Apple

      • You can buy just the battery from Apple?

        • Just become an employee there and you can get access to all the batteries your heart desires.

        • You cant buy ANY spare parts from Apple.

          • @Wayne7497: i thought you could only get them to replace the battery for you

    • +4

I know it's not genuine but I've had good results with the 4 different batteries I've gotten from Ifixit

      • +1

Yeh I might do that too! Thanks keep seeing this lot
Will be good to replace both parents iPhone 10/11 with new batts. They’re pretty much fully degraded

  • +4

What happens if you destroy the phone? Even Apple managed to destroy a phone previously when getting a battery change. Of course they were able to swap it out with a refurb immediately.

    • +1

I think the common sense would prevail there.

      • +6

The thing about common sense is it's not very common.

      • +3

        Wtf does that mean

        • +3

          Common sense isn’t so common

Edit: whoops this was literally just said a few lines above
There is proof in the proverbial pudding, and that pudding is me.

      • +1

According to the info in another comment, common sense doesn't prevail at that business, not with the owners attitude https://www.reddit.com/r/Geelong/comments/18h3msf/phone_repa…

  • +1

Is this offer for all store? if so there's one in Moonee Ponds VIC.

    • Yes. As per the description

      • +5

per your description? or you title? i don't see anything stating all stores.
And your title only showing Geelong, Torquay, Colac, Warrnambool, Mount Gambier.

          • +4

@plmko: unless stated that it's all stores how do you know if a store is not excluded as such?
Trying to get clarification to save people from going there and not being able to get their free battery replacement.
If you have nothing helpful to say, then don't say it at all.

            • @iamtezr: Common sense in play here….and shows people don't read and then complain later when they go to wrong store

            • +3

@iamtezr: I called up the store and they confirmed they doing it as well. Save me 1hr drive to Geelong

    • +6

That article isn’t even about generic brand batteries, it’s about people putting batteries in their general household waste. Not a valid reason to neg

      • +1

Very good chance that it won't be the genuine apple battery. Therefore IMO not worth the replacement and jumping over hurdles.

  • +5

Will they potentially replace other genuine apple parts with their counterfeit parts whilst changing our batteries? I've heard stories before. :S Unless they just change it in front of you.

    • +1

Or extract your data somehow, bug your phone etc

    • Geez you iphone owners are so Paranoid, ripping your data not possible, replacing your parts not possible with out huge warnings on your phone, been repairing iphones for 15yrs. Whilst batteries i use are not Apple they are identical made in same factory, watched em come off assembly line 1 side Apple 1 side 3rd party. Difference is price nothing else. Most reputable repair shops buy these batteries anything else well you take risk.

      • +1

Isn't the huge warning, hardware detection etc added in recent models? There might be a reason they are only doing this for older models upto a specific one.

There is no reason for a business to do something like this without some motive, unless this acts as a huge promotion for their repair business, which might also be the case

  • +1

Hmm 5hr drive to get my IPhone Battery changed for free it’s a big Hell Yeah for me

    • I hope this is sarcasm. You can legit get it done at Apple for like $150 and save 5hr of your life.

      • +2

He's saving $150 but losing 5 hrs of his life?

      • +3

        Life is the journey

        • To get your Apple batteries replaced

      • +3

What if the nearest Apple is 6hr away?

  • iPhones are a scam

    • +1

      Save us

      • +1

Buy a savsung and you will be saved

        • +2

Samsung is the new Apple in terms of scamming people

  • +1

Don't complain when your el-cheapo battery goes into thermal runaway next week and burns your house down. But it was free so it was worth it, right?

    • Do you even know what causes thermal runaways? Im guessing not. Your iPhone wouldn't even power on without bms n protection.

  • +1

2 hour timeframe on a Saturday.. how many free batteries are these guys intending to give away

    • Technician: On lunch hours

    • The batteries will be the same cheap fake garbage sold on eBay.

      • Don't think it's the batteries are garbage, but probably sitting in storage for 3+ years and already started degrading 1 year ago

  • too far…

  • Dang, as someone who is still running an iPhone 11 and needs a replacement battery, this is so cool, just a shame I'm in the wrong state haha

  • +24
    • It surprised me how lot of people didn’t do their own due diligence and wondered why they got scammed.

When you pay for something using, say, paypal you have buyer protection at least. I think it is important because that helped me recover the money I paid to dodgy sellers twice in my history of online purchases.

When you get free service like this and pay nothing, then you read the verification report from imazing /3utools, and find out some fishy info (batt manufacturing date being too old, or even some other parts got swapped out). In that case, what are you going to do? ACL? What proof can you bring to table? And what kind of compensation you expect to seek, since you paid nothing and even other parts got swap out, how to prove that they did it but not others? Well you actually can, but at a cost of such worries and potential hassles (weeks or months-long email / phone for dealing with ACL, costing you time, emotional and other lossess due to downtime of your phone (assuming it is your primary use phone).

Think twice guys next time when you see any freebies. Business is always a business.

    • Thanks! not worth the risk, time and effort.

  • geez those locations… might as well have them on the moon instead

  • How's Rhett going these days?

  • +2

With all the spelling mistakes on their form I honestly thought this is a scam. You really wanna trust these guys doing open heart surgery on your phone to save $100? I'm looking forward to the comments here in 6 months for those who take the gamble.

    • +1

You can ask here without waiting for 6 months. Same deal was posted last year too

    • -1

6 months, it will be much sooner

  • +3

If you know the business practices behind this company, I would strongly reconsider getting your battery changed. Not to mention, the way how the owner treats his customers and employees is simply appalling. Just a quick Google search will tell you everything about Buzztech. Buzztech does not have a good reputation in Geelong region & many people phones are in worse shape after a said repair has been done.

    • Maybe in the process of changing baterry they will do something so phone owner will go back for a repair in the next few weeks and pay

I submitted the form at 12.15pm today only to go down to the moonee ponds store to be told I needed a confirmation text message which I never got. Store guy said the applications are processed manually and the last processing times were 9am and 11am today! 😤

  • +4

Went in and had an old phone battery replaced today, coconut battery says 1 cycle and 100% capacity and from desay corporation, 1600 days old. iPhone says battery unable to be verified. Now charging, remind me to report back after charging.

    • +1

@sakanasama how’d you go? I had my old iPhone Xs done and now have a seemingly permanent notification in my settings saying non-genuine battery detected. Doesn’t have an impact on general functionality but you can’t access the battery health feature in settings. Wondering if yours is the same?

      • +1

Yeah, so I do have the "Important battery message" showing up as well, no battery health, the tech did also left some residue behind, nothing impact functionality. Funnily though, my iphone 15pm keeps thinking its a new apple watch everytime i turn it on, and wants me to pair which is kind of annoying. Other than that, the design capacity of XS MAX battery is 3174 mah, and using coconut battery, this one shows 3545 mah, which is a larger battery, i guess a good thing. Phone definitely runs faster compared to my old battery. So no complaints here.
