Peugeot E-2008 GT SUV MY23 (Orange Fusion) from $39,990 Driveaway @ Peugeot

5150

This was a $64,990 DA car a month ago, a huge $25k price drop. To be fair this was more like a $50k car with a 65k RRP but now selling for 40k.

To put into perspective there’s only 2 EVs sub 40k DA on market, base level MG4 and GWM Ora.

This is easily the more premium of the 2.

I’ve given this a test drive, although it’s not as punchy as the MG4 it’s a nicer drive and has a much more premium feel and more features such as sunroof.

        • As a commuter only car it would be acceptable if you have home charging at decent rates or solar. It comes with 11kw AC charging which is decent.

I wouldn't want to take it for longer trips.

          • @Caped Baldy: Its small SUV, its not meant to go on long trips

            • @Brick Tamland: You could only go like 1.5hrs one way with highway driving. The range is closer to 300km at 100kmh plus.

It makes those types of trips more difficult.

        • lol

you drive 320 per day or something …

    • In Qld you get additional 6k rebate so its $34k which you claim after purchase

  • +4

Based on then number of votes, should be all sold out to the ozbargain community by now.

    • Literally after I signed the contract and left I saw a couple come in and ask to test drive the e 2008…. Fellow ozb maybe

      • +1

Did you ask the sales for referral bonus?

  • -3

My real trouble with this car starts with How to pronounce or say it properly either in French or in English, and that always stops me from buying it. Eg..how can you marry someone when you can't even say the name properly

    • +1

      pe-zho it's that simple wait

      • Awesome .. how do you even pronounce that ? 🤣

    • +3

      I’m sure that’s a you problem.

    • +1

I've heard some Muppets pronounce it Pew-Joe

      • Yup my English teacher taught me that too and ruined my French

    • -1

      Gal Gadot

      • I will try that with the Gal Gadot sales person

  • Unbelievable profit these companies are making!

    • +1

      Substitute profit for loss.

      • Negative profit?

        • They want to make it up in volume.

  • +5

Because of the amount of car accident posts on OzBargain I'm recommending This EV for all OzBargainers

  • -3

I wouldn't touch this, 330km range for $40k. With EVs, in my opinion, the most important things to consider is range and then charging speeds.

    • +6

For the average driver who probably does less than 60km round trip each day this is fine. Just charge every 3 days

    • +6

Perfect for a city car. Not great if you want to travel interstate often.

      • +4

So that covers most people then.

    • +2

Wouldn't you consider your needs of the car first? If you only have a short commute to work a 200KM range maybe fine.

      • I think you guys misunderstand, there are much better options at the $40k mark with has increased range, like the MG4. I think the concept of brand equity is not as important with EVs vs normal ICE cars. The key deciding factor currently is $ per KM range you get.

        • +11

But the MG4 is quite cheap inside whereas the Pug is almost luxury. If I didnt need the range I'd preference a nice interior over a longer range than I wont need or use. I will use the nice interior everyday but maybe not the longer range at all…

        • +11

MG4 at 40k has 30km more claimed range… you’re really gonna care about driving 10 mins longer than all the other features of the car?

          • -3

@cloudy: Thought MG4 was around 380km range, but even 30km extra range is a massive factor for me, along with charging speed. For me the price of an EV around these prices are entirely based on battery size, if another car has 9% more range at the same price, that is a big factor to consider. Of course if this car has leather seats, sunroof etc… luxury stuff as standard they will play a factor.

  • +1

The exterior and interior design from french manufacturers has always been an excellent blend of being futuristic, luxurious and quirky. Feels like a cockpit whenever you step into any one of them. If it weren't for the resale, questionable reliability and stigma, I would get one in a heartbeat…That's why I drive a Honda nowadays.

  • +19

For any Victorian’s melb city Peugeot has brand new demos, undriven, for 2k less. So 38k plus 5 year servicing included worth 1k.

So basically 3k cheaper then what I posted.

    • +1

I might add black is no additional charge along with orange, other colours are $500 more, cheaper than usual colour surcharge.

      • Hmmm… any other colour than orange is showing as extra for me (SA)…

    • Genuine question. Why do other EVs need servicing while Tesla doesn’t?

      • +3

Because lots of people feel better having things like brake and suspension checked once in a while. Change the AC air filter, tighten nuts and bolts.

After a long time change the oil in the single speed reduction gear box. After an even longer time change coolant.

        • Don't forget ozbargain's favourite, blinker fluid.

      • +1

Because ev has less moving components… And traditional car dealers make alot of money from servicing… They charge you 500 bucks just for changing the oil and inspecting other things which you can totally do yourself.

For tesla the only thing you can really inspect is the brake pads which are little used as most of ev braking is regen braking.

        • +1

Partly to sustain dealerships margin. Some items do need regular maintenance - brake fluid as an example.

I guess Tesla branded brake fluid is one of those fly life ones? Possible can be renewed via OTA update. 'Shrug'

Jokes aside, unless the is well seal that water molecules dont get in, otherwise "no servicing required" on EV is a BS.

Think of liquid cooling in a PC (nowadays are much better made, the seals and clips). Not uncommon to see tubes bursting, rendering the PC useless in the earlier days.

        • +2

OP is asking why other EVs require servicing, but Tesla doesn't.

OP isn't comparing against ICE vehicles.

      • Because Tesla pitch it as a selling point. It will last just long enough for the warranty to expire without servicing.

  • +1

A lot of problems my previous French made car.

  • +3

Imagine whoever bought this at the full 65k RPP. Might as well go Tesla with that full RPP, a much better/tuned car.

This is so much more realistic pricing.

    • Whoever bought at the full 65k RRP - probably Not that many at all.

      • 57 sold in q3, q4 2023

  • Also got told the car comes with nation wide road side assist for 5 years, apparently rarely gets used the sales guy tells me but peace of mind never the less.

    • You actually believe the sales guy?

      • +6

Yea cause after he said it he showed it to me in the contract, I believe it more than some internet hippies

    • -1

This car doesnt have the range to warrant nation wide roadside

      • +2

Does any car have the range to go around the country without stopping?

        • -2

Lets be real.. low range, lack of charging stations, and stopping and waiting to charge every 300km.. aint nobody interstate road tripping in an EV. Nationwide roadside clearly a sales gimmick on a car like this.

          • +1

@Doesnotcompute: Even if that was true: people move and take their car, and when selling they don't always buy locally either…

          • +1

@Doesnotcompute: If I go on a road trip I am normally stopping for a break every couple of hours.

          • +1

@Doesnotcompute: same with 96% mobile phone coverage (with percentage calculated by population, not land area).

legit negged you as there are lots of people doing interstate road trips in an EV

      • 90% of breakdowns happen within 10km of your home.

Peugeot is very wary of the pricing war from Tesla and all the Chinese manufacturers, and acting pre-emptively to clear out as much stock as possible before sales plummet. If it were not for this post, I wouldn't even know that Peugeot sells EVs……

    • Making me wonder if Peugeot Europe are contemplating doing an Infiniti and leaving Oz if sales don't improve. 25k is a massive reduction for a (supposedly) semi-premium brand Looking forward, it's looking bleak for Euro (and eventually Japanese & Korean) car makers as they will have to compete against more and more cheaper Chinese and then Indian brands. Who knows, in 10-15 years time we may even see cars being seriously exported from Africa as the financiers continually look for cheaper labour.

      • +1

It’s only a compliance car for Peugeot.

They have to be seen to do something in Europe plus they have whole of fleet averages to meet. Otherwise they have to pay Tesla or BYD for emissions credits.

      • +2

I'd be surprised if we don't see African manufacturing ramp up after China/India but i think it will be further away than 10 years.

Entirely possible for any of the low volume french brands to just up and leave at any moment. Last year, Lamborghini sold more than Citroen did.

        • +3

Last year, Lamborghini sold more than Citroen did.

          Bloody estate agents.

And so much for trickle down economics, most people are skint while the wealthy asset holders are getting richer.
How many Bentleys were sold last year?

    • +1

Existing makers should just drop all their prices until Tesla bleeds out

      • +1

Not likely mate. Tesla make 18% margin (industry average is 8.9%), they are in a far better position to reduce prices until other manufacturers bleed out.

        • Is that why they are firing 1000’s of staff? Because they are so profitable?

  • +2

After the 6k rebate in qld its not bad value, range is abit crap hence why 40k is more realistic price for this and not 65k lol

    • -2

      range is abit crap

Not to worry, EV range increases as you keep on using superchargers and put more KMs. /s

  • +1

How is Peugeot surviving in the Australian market? I hardly see any of ‘em driving around. It’s a rare sight.

  • -3

    It's too damn ugly

    • I don't even like electric cars and I think it looks decent enough if not good looking.

  • +1

This might be the tipping point, prices plummet in the EV market as the average consumer isn't biting.

    • +4

Haha sure. This was severely over priced to begin with. Hence the massive price drop. Who in their right mind would pay 65k for an EV with theoretical 320km range? No one sane.

  • -6

320km range and thats not even in real life range. You will need to charge it every 5 mins.

    • Peugeot is lion, not cheetah, cannot run 320km in 5 minutes.

  • +5

“ Peugeot claims the e-2008 GT can do the 0-100km/h sprint in 9.0 seconds, which is 0.3 seconds quicker than the combustion-powered 2008. Flat out you’ll be doing 150km/h”

    Oh my that’s lethargic acceleration

    • +3

That is, quite frankly, terrible acceleration for an EV.

      Surprisingly terrible.

    • It’s a small suv, what do you want?

  • 320km, not even enough for a short return road trip

    • +1

Real life range is probably 250… Not great … Forget about weekend use

      • +10

Yeah my grocery shopping and kids sports are a 600km drive every weekend.

  • Could you even drive this between Sydney and Melbourne? The first EV charger out of Sydney seems to be 329km away.

Great looking car, range absolutely lets it down.

    • -3

If you want a car to drive between states don’t buy EVs yet.

      • +4

That’s crap. I drove from QLD to SA a while ago, no dramas.

      • +1

seriously disagree, guy in WA drove around Australia in an EV 4 time, 1st time 5 years ago and was so difficult with slow chargers, the last time was a few months ago and it was a breeze with all the super chargers and went around Australia in 10 days averaging 1,300km a day. This was a model Y with a 515km range.

    • +3

There's heaps of chargers. Check out plugshare for the best list. I agree range is a let down.

  • OOS?

  • +4

Peugeot struggle with basic electrics, trusting them to make an entirely electric car is asking for trouble.

    • They struggle harder making a reliable petrol car…

    • This car is not an entirely electric car.

It’s a cheap EV conversion of an existing ICE car. This always results in severe compromises.

      • -1

Simply owning a Peugeot results in severe compromises.

  • +1

A lot of car for the cash. I guess all EVs prices will start heading South soon.

    • -6

Because all EVs have 320km range and 65k price tag? Sick of seeing dumb comments like this.

      • +1

Just based on what's being reported in the news with respect to sales figures, cheap Chinese options, Tesla share prices and a tanking second hand EV market.

        What's so dumb about that?

        • Saying all EVs will drop in price because of this deal is dumb because this car was severely overpriced to begin with and most people won't even consider an EV with range as pathetic as this car.

          • @keejoonc: Have you been watching the news? Tesla stocks? EV sales downturns? Cheap, well built Chinese alternatives?

You think EV prices aren't on the wane, or won't in the near future.

            • @gasman70: Are you even reading what I'm writing? LOL
You said EV car prices will drop based on this car being "a lot of car for the cash", which I disagree with. It's not a lot car for the cash. It was overpriced to begin with and given the pathetic range this car is able to do, I woudn't even call $40k a good deal.
EV's were always going to decrease in price over time as more and more companies start making it. Talk about stating the obvious.
