Peugeot E-2008 GT SUV MY23 (Orange Fusion) from $39,990 Driveaway @ Peugeot

5150

This was a $64,990 DA car a month ago, a huge $25k price drop. To be fair this was more like a $50k car with a 65k RRP but now selling for 40k.

To put into perspective there’s only 2 EVs sub 40k DA on market, base level MG4 and GWM Ora.

This is easily the more premium of the 2.

I’ve given this a test drive, although it’s not as punchy as the MG4 it’s a nicer drive and has a much more premium feel and more features such as sunroof.

probably one of the cheapest EV in the market, plus you get $6000 rebate if you in QLD.

    • +1

      No brainer at that price

    • +1

You are only eligible for the rebate if your household income is less than $180k.

      • +4

Rules out 80% of Ozbargainers who are sitting on high yield investments that earn $180k in passive income

        • It's household income, not individual income. Not that hard to be above the threshold.

          • @keejoonc: Hello high roller 🫅

            • @0 0 0: Didn't realise earning $90k per person is considered a "high roller" 🤣

I believe the correct spelling is Pidgeot. It evolves from Pidgey.

    • +1

      Now that's just Pidgeotic..

  • +2

    Ordered one. Thanks.

  • The ICT people at Peugeot, must be like wth, why is our website getting smashed!

    • I konw the dealership I bought mine from had a flood of interest after I bought mine, lol. I should have told him what was coming, all the cars he listed on cars sales is now marked as sold lol

  • This or BYD Dolphin? (if I am indifferent around size of car as I believe Dolphin is smaller)

    • dolphin has a better battery with V2L, slightly better range but much smaller car

      • Its not that much smaller

        • by exterior dimension perhaps but interior space is bigger and boot is about 30% larger

    • +2

If range is all you care about go byd

But this is pretty much better in every other aspect

      • Based on your opinion or experience?
its not just range BYD is better than this
        there is safety:
All current BYD cars in Aus have 5 star ANCAP rating, and same for NCAP
-This doesnt even have an ANCAP rating (only the ICE variant does which did get 5 stars), couldnt find NCAP rating either but one review suggest its got 4 stars, Dolphin is ranked 4 on 2023 NCAP for electric cars and Seal is 8
-battery tech: BYD has LFP batteries which is built into chassis, LFP can be regularly charged to 100% while not impacting the battery degradation, its safer (google the BYD blade battery puncture test), the fact its in the chassis not on the chassis also equals a lot more cars space, where as others fell a bit more cramped
        as for capacity:
        Dolphin Dynamic/Premium: 44.9 kWh/60.48 kWh
        Atto 3 STandard/Extended 49.92/60.48
        Seal Dynamic/Prem/Perf: 61.44/82.56/82.56

        e-2008: 50

        Range WLTP:

        Dolphin Dynamic/Premium: 340km/427km
        Atto 3 STandard/Extended 345/420
        Seal Dynamic/Prem/Perf: 460/570/520

        e-2008: 328

        -charging speedsDC max
        Dolphin Dynamic/Premium: 60kW/80kW
        Atto 3 Standard/Extended 70kW/80kW
        Seal Dynamic/Prem/Perf: 110kW/150kW/150kW

        e-2008: 100kW

        -charging speeds AC max
        BYD: 7kW

        e-2008: 11kW

        • 0-100 acceleration
          Dolphin Dynamic/Premium: 12.3sec/7sec
          Atto 3 Standard/Extended 7.3sec
          Seal Dynamic/Prem/Perf: 7.5/5.9/3.8

        e-2008: 9sec

        -dimesnions

e-2008 is only slightly larger than than the dolphin with a bit more boot space, Atto 3 is a larger SUV than e-2008 but 2008 has a slighly max boot space but with seats up atto 3 slightly larger

alot stats to compare but you get the picture,

Yes Peugot might be more "premium" inside, i dont know havent been in it nor have i ever owned any peugot, but i own the Seal and that is a very premium feel inside comparable to luxury brands, have also driven the atto 3 and dolphin and have to admit was quite impressed with the standard features and the cabin room even on the dolphin, yes design is bit over board

but I honestly dont think your comment is fair, BYD does tick a few more boxes not just range, not putting the Peugeot down but considering some of the other comments, ppl complaining about the quality/parts/reliability issues of other non EV models, also things to consider is what is the brands commitment to EVs, is just something they are trying to offload or are they serious,

I bought my BYD after a couple months on consideration and researching other brands/models etc, tbh Peugeot didnt even come up at all especially at 65k price, i mean at this price it seems good but i would personally look at something else for a bit more money, the Chinese EV market is pretty good i wish we had more other brands here in Aus, even some of the other BYD models that aren't available here look good.

I honestly think the sales now are purely going to be based on price, i would consider MG over e2008
I know some people will look at it as Peugeot is "premium" brand and that they are get 65k for 40k, but is it really is it worth 65k, i think the new price is what it should have been all along

        • +4

I bought my BYD after a couple months on consideration and researching other brands/models etc, tbh Peugeot didnt even come up

Sounds like you haven’t experienced the 2008, so /thread there.

I’ve driven both atto 3 and this, and what I said before I stand by. Of course now you’ve made your purchase already it’s hard for you to be unbiased, but try the 2008 as though you haven’t and you will be quiet happy to fork out 40k for this.

As for those who say this should be 40k all the time, I say byd atto should be 40k all the time, but it’s not, such a mute point.

          • -1

@cloudy: No i havent experienced 2008, last Peugeot i was in was 206 over 20years ago, my point was not trying to put the 2008 down, but that your comment that the only thing better in BYD is range, thats also not true,

Me saying that it should always be 40k is a repeated comment by many others in this thread, maybe some would happy to fork 40k for it, would you be happy to fork out 65k, i was looking at cars in that price range when i got my EV, and that why 2008 wasn't even an option or considered, as at 65k there were much better options than this offering better all round features, as for atto 3 being 40k, that may be an argument but sales figures speak for themselves how many atto 3s have sold at full price compared to full price 2008?, im sure atto 3 will outsell 2008 at 40k too,

You may think im bias cause i have already made my purchase, that's fine, but i have also owned/extensively used various late model luxury/premium vehicles too, ranging from AMG, BMW, Genesis, Lexus and others, so its not like im coming from 90s hyundai and think that BYD is a luxury brand lol

Yes im quite sure the luxury features of the 2008 are more fancier than the BYD options, but you can enjoy your 2008s massaging seats while ur constantly charging it up but not to 100% because its going to degrade battery too quick, keep it under 80%, there goes ur real world range of maybe 250km, 200km if that

If 40k was my budget, yeah maybe i would consider it, but as an all-round package i would more likely get an MG, or 2nd hand Tesla

            • @ZR6: It's a real shame Peugeot have relied on ozbargain to clear these out at $40k. The current distributor (inchscape) are absolutely hopeless when it comes to advertising. Hopefully Stellantis let the contract with Inchscape expire once it's up and they take over with a bit sharper pricing and better advertising. Peugeot and Citroen both make quality cars but the crux of the problem is general pricing & lack of advertising. If the facelift e2008 is $45k and they put in a small advertising campaign they'd most likely sell plenty.

            • +2

              @ZR6:

Me saying that it should always be 40k is a repeated comment by many others in this thread

              Mate, those are trolls….

In a parallel world, if the discount was 15k and I posted on ozbargain saying this car is 15k cheaper and now 50k, those same trolls would say “Nar too much 40k and I’ll buy it!”

They always say that, look at many other threads, it’s a given comment every time.

The fact it’s gotten almost 500 votes shows this is a bargain, and by definition below expected level of pricing.

You can fluff on range again and again, but to those who don’t need the extra 30km and 5-10 mins on the road the 2008 features provide so much more utility.

But yea, if I bought a byd and saw this I’d do what I can to justify my purchase too.

              • -3

@cloudy: Lol, i couldnt care less what anyone else thinks about the car i purchased, i had my budget and my options and went with what suited my price and usasge, i dont need justify my purchase, and this thing wasnt even considered when i was looking at purchasing, mind you, i didnt know it existed, but even if i did, it still wouldnt have been an option as it other options have better value than this

As for the supposed trolling or not from those commentators, realistically what this car offers in terms of EVs it matches EVs sitting the 40-50k price range, as for 65k it seems overpriced, the so-called "niceties" it has doesnt justify what it offers, i dont consider Peugeot to be some high end euro luxury brand, just see the lists EVs that are available in 60 - 70k range in aus and you can see what others are offering, not hard to see why they moved less than 100 units before selling at almost 40% off, i think the ones that want justification for their purchases are those who paid 65k for it lol (not really if someone is happy with their car than who cares what others think)

my comment here is not to justify my purchase, goes back to your original comment that this car is better than the byds in every aspect other than range, byd currently has 3 models each in 2 or 3 variants, so how does this car out do all 7 different vehicles byd has to offer, comfort? this thing is tiny inside comparable to the dolphin, that weird dash setup of it has will to be difficult to view unless you have the steering wheel set uncomfortably low, anyway each to their own
To me Peugeot seems to be a niche, thats as a whole brand, at least in Aus, this model doesnt differ, it may be "nicer" to some but doesnt really offer anything special in terms of EV, and from the reviews of read and watched, thats pretty much the conclusion
If it ticks your boxes go for it but as mentioned in another comment they are sold out so ur gonna have too wait till facelift model and extra 25k, just dont rule out other brands of EVs, cause i reckon they offer "more" it what you would expect from an EV than this

                • +3

                  @ZR6:

this thing is tiny inside comparable to the dolphin, that weird dash setup of it has will to be difficult to view unless you have the steering wheel set uncomfortably low

its amazing how you have such a concrete and firm opinion on comfort in something you've never been in. But ok, I'll leave you opinion, which you're free to have, to yourself. But anyone reading should remember this. You haven't been inside or driven one. I also watched those reviews you have seen, which is why I test drove it and dismissed those commentators, I'm 6 foot and its not a problem for me.

As to the size compared to the Dolphin, again, how can you compare the space when you haven't been in?? This is all in your imaingation dude, so for you to say yea yea I don't care what others think, but care so much about defending this issue is puzzling, only you know why this is so dear to your heart.

                  Good day sir

                  • +1

@cloudy: i-Cockpit is FANTASTIC. I love the combo of the small wheel and high set dash, much more intuitive and safer. It's something you don't realise until you have driven one. Now every time I drive another car it feels like driving a bus.

Why 'journalists' keep bringing it up as a negative I don't know. They clearly have not adjusted the seat/wheel properly or just like to whinge about nothing.

                    • @nubzy:

just like to whinge about nothing

I think this is it, in order to have a "proper unbiased" reveiw they need to throw in some cons as well as pros.

And the main cons i heard over and over is 65k is steep, and the i-Cock. Now the price arguement is well and truely a non-arguement…(though you can see bdriod disagrees, but there's always someone right?) and the i-cockpit, which is actually amazing and not a con at all if you ask me. I love the 3d screen, the clarity, the look, it's actually very unique and cool IMHO.

                  • -2

@cloudy: Haha yeah sure thing, all in my imagination, must be similar to you and your imagination on seeing the SAME REVIEWS i have, how do you know which i have seen? LOL

Enjoy your car, I'm indifferent, you going on about me justifying my purchase etc, as i mentioned i couldn't care less, i have a sedan not a small SUV/hatchback so this is a complete different car not what i was after at, not from Peugeot or any other brand, everyone has there own budgets and their preferences, some people might favour styling of a specific car, even if it lacks some basic functions that are found on many other similar vehicles from other brands are happy with that compromise, others might not be too concerned over styling and prefer more bang for their buck, again each to their own, i was simply making the point that BYD does offer more thane just range, lol the closest BYD to this price doesnt offer much more range than this.

As for size comparisons it was based off official specs, yes i havent been in this car, but i have been in different EVs, from Tesla, MG, Polestar, Hyundai, KIA and obviously BYD, one thing that I did notice from BYD is due to the the battery being built into the chassis rather than on it, is that their cars maximize cabin space, my Seal is a small/mid-size sedan, but inside the cabin its feels quite large almost as large as my previous car which was a large full sized sedan, and more floor space, i also noticed the same with the Atto 3 that the their is more cabin space then it rivals, and even the Dolphin which felt more of mini SUV/ crossover than a little hatchback

Again everyone will pick whatever matches their preferences and budget, and of course availability, now the 40k e2008 is sold out im assuming next batch will the facelift model at full price, again some people will still be interested in it and others will give it a miss and go with more popular options.

At 40k its a good deal only other electric SUV at 40k is the MG4 Excite 51 and MG ZS EV Excite

  • -1

Hmm, you can get a 2nd hand 2021 petrol 2008 for around $25k drive-away. I'd rather save the $15k and go with that option, tbh.

    • +3

      And pay for fuel instead?

  • +4

Unreal deal especially for those in QLD with the $6k rebate. Would be all over it if myself or the wife was looking to change over (parking situation in our unit means we can’t charge at home)…

Currently driving a 2021 508 GT liftback. Peugeots are making great cars these days (love the interior in mine) and now consistently are in the upper end of reliability charts. The 8 speed autos in the ICE models are Aisin (owned by Toyota) and the 1.6L 4 cylinder engines are extremely reliable. Although if the front & rear cameras on the 2008 are anything like my 508, I really hope whoever signed off on them has been sacked… resolution belongs on 2005 YouTube.

  • It's a real shame Australia doesn't have a car industry, ICE or EV. We have so many armchair experts in both types or more, using this thread as a gauge

  • Received a message from sales that all 2003 e2008 sold out Australia-wide.

    • +1

      what about 2023 models

Seriously though, i wonder how many sold during the sale, some articles mention that they have sold 97 cars since July 23 till May 24, including demo/media release cars, so how much stock did they have left 10 - 15 cars?

      • I know my dealership had a dozen to sell itself, given it’s nationwide… I suggest more than your range

        • interesting, which dealership is that, there are 32 dealerships aus wide so lets say each had approx 10 that means they would have sold in a week 3x than what they have sold in 10 months, should start seeing them on the road soon
however i dont think all dealers would of had that much stock, or maybe they did, who knows, anyways whoever got one enjoy it

    • I bought the one they had as floor stock in Newcastle on Sunday afternoon. Picking up this Friday.

      • It is good to know you bought it before picking it. Lock Picking Lawyer

    • +2

First ever car to get genuinely Ozbargained??

  • Can you get it in a colour besides the orange?

    • i had the choice of all colours, but apparently no more stock.

      • Where are you at with your purchase now that they are all sold out? I believe you paid the deposit.

    • extra $1,050 for other colors (if still in stock).

  • +1

I booked a test drive in ACT, only to have it cancelled with the dealership saying that there is no stock and they have even sold their demonstration model …

    • +1

Yeah my friend also said she was told sold out.. seems more likely a great marketing strategy for the handful of new stock they had.

  • Southport QLD showroom confirmed huge interest and no new ones left, they are taking wait list but that seems unlikely to be worth it.

As of close of business Tuesday they have sourced 4 additional ex-demonstrators:

    1 x Vertigo Blue
    1 x Pearl White
    1 x Elixer Red
    1 x Fusion Orange

These of course are excluded from the $6k rebate QLD though. They are expecting those to be gone by close of business on Wednesday.

    • Glad I got a new one at Southport on Saturday then!

  • Aren’t they all demos even though these have done less than 20km and are already registered?

    • my demo hasnt even been registered yet, with 0km on the clock, im expecting a few km when i get the call to grab it though.

      basically brand new

  • I want to buy one but no more stock in WA …..sad

  • +3

Saw a blue one on the road today and the bloke waved at me as I went past in my 308. One thing I can say is that Peugeot get a lot of attention from passersby. Very nicely designed cars with a great presence on the road. A shame so many Aussies write them off (or don't even know they exist), they are excellent cars these days and much nicer than the Asian brands for similar money.

    • +1

      Which Peugeots get attention?

  • +1

If anyone has actually bough one and can they please share their driving experience?

  • Called Brisbane dealership, was told they were sold out nationwide before Labour Day already. How was this deal obtainable at all ?

    • It went on sale quietly on April 26. Think they only put it up on the website Thursday 2nd or Friday 3rd. Got Ozbargained when Cloudy posted this deal on the 4th :D

      • +1

I’m glad I didn’t post this as soon as I saw it a week earlier, it sold so quickly i might not have been able to order one myself.

But I can say this deal was obtainable as I posted it a hour before I drove into the dealership.

        • Thanks for sharing this deal! Quick question: What's the build date of yours? Mine is 14 JUN 23.

          • @K01: May 23 according to contract

      • Lol soon to be the official OZB vehicle

  • Has anyone received the delivery? If yes, please confirm if it’s a brand new car but falls under ex-demo category. Thanks.

    • Ordered on Saturday, still waiting for delivery

      • How did you order on Saturday? I thought everywhere was sold out before that?

        • I managed to place an order at 4:30PM on Saturday, and at that time, all color options were still available. It seemed like there was still stock available then.

  • Ozbargained - I spotted this a few days ago was going to go for a test drive but won't at the usual price. Damn. Thought the promotion would go until 30 May

  • +2

Did the test drive today & signed the contract. The car will arrive in Adelaide from NSW in about 2 weeks. Thanks @cloudy for posting this deal and @the swear jar for your tip about the refundable reservation fee. Build date is June 2023.

        • +2

So I'd been researching a little, and I decided against buying one off a marketplace like ebay or amazon. I've been sold on the idea of getting one with certification in the off chance something overheats/causes a fire and insurance implications of non-certified equipment.

          • +1

            @cloudy: I'm considering buying this…
            https://inchargex.com.au/products/portable-ev-charger-type-2…

I got word that next monday there will be 10% off so i'll take advantage of that

            • +2

@cloudy: You're much better off with this one - https://inchargex.com.au/products/portable-ev-charger-32a-5p… - you'll need to pay a sparky $300 or so to install a 32amp single phase 5-pin socket to plug it in to.
This will let you fully recharge in just a few hours when you need to, but you can also switch it down to basic 10amp mode for slow overnight charges to put as little wear as possible on your battery 👍

              • @Nom: From what I've seen it's more like $1000 to get this installed.

                • @Cheapskate Paul: It took my guy under an hour 🤷🏼‍♂️ It was only about 5 metres from my switchboard into the garage though.

From memory I think the socket and breaker switch made up about $50 of the cost.

                  • @Nom: Thanks for your reply. You did very well. I would get a wall charger if I could get it installed for that price.

                    • @Cheapskate Paul: The sparky literally just has to run a fat piece of cable from a new breaker in your switchboard, to where you want the charger socket - then just screw the socket and it's switch to the wall, and attach the cable into the back - it's a very simple job!!

(Obviously it becomes less simple if your switchboard is nowhere close 😁)

          • @Bab: I worked it out. On the right stalk, there’s a button on the tip, that switches between trips or something. One of those tell the battery %. Weird way to see the %, but whatever.

  • Collected mine today, I'm a bit disappointed with mine, didn't see a small paint imperfection when I picked it up and saw it in the light of day at home.

I'm glad you guys are happy with yours.

  • Noticed the swirl marks on returning home on the delivery day even though I opted for protection package.

    • How much extra was the paint protection option?

      • $1595

        • Is that like ceramic coating?

          • @cloudy: Sorry, unsure. I have to speak to the salesperson to find out. Is ceramic coating good?
