Peugeot E-2008 GT SUV MY23 (Orange Fusion) from $39,990 Driveaway @ Peugeot

5150

This was a $64,990 DA car a month ago, a huge $25k price drop. To be fair this was more like a $50k car with a 65k RRP but now selling for 40k.

To put into perspective there’s only 2 EVs sub 40k DA on market, base level MG4 and GWM Ora.

This is easily the more premium of the 2.

I’ve given this a test drive, although it’s not as punchy as the MG4 it’s a nicer drive and has a much more premium feel and more features such as sunroof.

I'd say main advantages of a motorcar is it isn't limited to tracks and costs far less to purchase and maintain lol

      • I dunno, weird people like trams and light rail and they are stuck on their tracks and useless for those that don’t live nearby.

Buy yourself a TGV then and try to find somewhere to use it

46kW battery, 260km real world range.

At $30k this would be a bargain. $40k is iffy. $65k is delusional.

    • +7

      You're honestly delusional…

      30k you're looking at a yaris…

      • +2

A Yaris would be far more reliable and would still be worth over 20k after 5 years

A yaris would easily be a better buy than this car in every way.

        • +2

A yaris ain't gonna get a family to an airport.

    • Isn't that the same range as some hybrids?

      • +1

Hybrids have a range of around 500km and refuel in a few minutes.

        • +1

I drove a Corolla hybrid and got 800km. Had to drive my hybrid XV to the low fuel light to get to 500km and colleagues were saying the hybrid Forester got around 400km.

          • @Caped Baldy: So Subaru gets a lot more fuel consumption?

            • @duodeta: Yeah, a lot higher. They have AWD so heavier and it's their first generation of hybrids so terrible efficiency. People at work really disliked them but got them due to the 12-18 month wait for RAV4s which have like 700km tanks.

        • I get close to 900km in my RAV4 (AWD Hybrid)

    • +1

Range could definitely be better, but

      a) That's the wrong model, correct link is https://ev-database.org/car/1946/Peugeot-e-2008-50-kWh

      b) That 260k range figure you've quoted is for city driving in -10°C weather, something you'd struggle to do in much of Australia.

      • With your link:
        Highway - Mild Weather * 245 km.

Range usually drops with either high or low temperature, so may be lower during Australian summer or higher when driving slower than the stated 110km/h.

The range could definitely be better, but still looks like a good price.

    • Manufacturer specs say 50kw battery

  • Been watching this one for the last few weeks and was quite surprised at the massive price drop. Gotta say the interior looks awesome (IMO) compared to the crappy BYD or Tesla. Far nicer and with some damn buttons. Only weak point is the range is apparently a bit "meh". Realistically gets only mid 200km with highway driving.

    • +7

Completely agree with this, but most people only drove like 50km a day. The 2-5 times a year you drive more might need to wait for charger. But it’s honestly a small compromise for a huge discount.

Plus much nicer features and premium interior and exterior.

    • +1

All EV's have meh range at highway driving. Just like hybrids. If you do a lot of highway driving just stick to ICE for a while.

      • +1

EVs are very different to hybrids. The Rav4 hybrid has a range of around 900km

        • +2

But paying extra for hybrid technology when you mainly do highway cycle driving is false economy.

    • +2

Yeah, this would be a signficantly nicer can than a Tesla, BYD or GWM

  • +6

RIP to the resale value of used cars for early adopters.

Also this is the standard price for these vehicles now. Have a look on CarSales. Every model is around 40k.

    • +2

That’s coz of the sale, they updated the price!

    • -1

Things getting cheaper these days since economy is weak

  • +1

It's a shame it has a front end that looks like the sydney harbor bridge, and probably costs the same to replace when a shopping trolley hits it.
I'll wait for something similar with a bit of durability built into the body, not fine art.

    • +2

I won’t comment on the durability, I haven’t owned it for 10 years… have you?

      • -1

I was commenting on "durability built into the body"…. I wasn't talking about the mechanicals.
Na… I don't own one and I'm guessing you do. Have you had to do any accident repairs for sub say… 10 kph frontal impacts?

        • +1

I haven't had a car accident in about 10 years

          • @cloudy: cool if I had a car like that I'd be parking in the corners of the supermarket carpark, to avoid being rammed by a lazy trolley and such

  • +2

    Ewwwww brother, what's thatttttt

    • Lol

    • +1

Are you talking about your avatar?

  • Croissant anyone?

    • Wrong country mate.

    • Get mine from woolies

  • Does it support V2L / V2G? That technology is a no-brainer to me.

    • Even if any car can do it… No house can accept it… Early adopters are paying crazy amounts of money for it…

      • I think there is a V2G trial going on already. SA I think.
The biggest problem is the cost of the charger. But market should dort that out. That is if that happens in Aus as Australia is bad for keeping a competetive market.

Heaven is where the police are English, the chefs are Italian, the car mechanics German, the lovers French and it's all organised by the Swiss. Hell is where the police are German, the chefs English, the mechanics French, the lovers are Swiss and it's all organised by the Italians.

Go to japan… Its all heaven there..

      • Wow yeah. 100000% agree

      • hell over there, many Japanese just want to escape their country.

      • The grass is greener on the other side. Why not move there if it's all heaven there?

  • +1

Car manufacturers do customers a huge disservice when they drop prices like this.

They should offer owners who paid more than this price a refund on the difference.

I would avoid purchasing from any manufacturer that depreciates its new vehicles this much

    • +8

don't worry no one paid 65k for this

    • +1

A bit irresponsible for earlier adopters hey!

  • +3

"I cant see why this didn sel…"
    328km WLTP range
    "Nevermind"

    • +1

Even at a 250km real life range that's one charge a month for me.
We are all different. Those glued to their car seats and driving crazy kms have different requirements.

I'm tempted, but my 32 year old car is doing OK and better for the environment if I keep it.

      • I do 250km a month myself too. Is it really worth it to get an ev model over ice over the years?

  • Can "my friend" using this car as home solar battery? 🥱

    • No. This is not a car model that supports that feature.

  • PEUGEOT car in Australia? Bad idea.

    1. Spare parts are expensive to get.
    2. Peugeot has a reputation of car's been lemons 🍋. Meaning problems with engine, gearbox, rust issues etc.
    3. As noted in the comments $25k price reduction it's a red flag.🚩

The car might look cool but think it as a long term. 40K what other cars could you get for that price? Is it worth the risk of getting a 🍋?

    • +1

My 2 friends that actually owned a pug …. Would agree … Both cars were lemons.

    • 2nd that as parts are so hard to get and always ex Australia to get them . This car brand lives in wrong country.

    • It's 🍊, not 🍋!

    • There's no engine or gearbox.

  • Looks like there are quite a lot of features as standard too

  • +4

It's such a shame that almost all EVs are crossovers which means they're the worst of both worlds!

If it was a station wagon, it would provide so much more utility.

  • Would something like this be a good option on a novated lease for someone who doesn't drive an awful lot of KMs per year?

My partner is a nurse so can access novated leasing through her work but I've no idea if something like this would be worth it. Currently drives an older Tiguan so just looking at options.

She earns approx. $70k part time but not sure if it works on family income etc.

    Thank you.

    • +2

70k ? I'm pretty sure she cant afford anything in this economy. And that tiguan is a mechanic time bomb, i had one previously.

    • Saw a guy bankruptcy with that vibrated leasing in bris from the news. So much of fine printing /trap you need to be aware of.

    • Lease works on personal income. With lease fees and interest, it only make sense on higher income.

If she is just driving around town and looking for an ev, maybe a 2nd hand leaf or something equivalent would make more sense.

    • Novated lease is like a normal loan and lease, just being repackaged under salary. If I were to take another novated lease would be on 1 or 2 year old Toyota with great resale value and renew the lease every 2+3 years and on and on like government depts always renew the leases with new cars.( Check out pickles why so many ex leases Toyota ) . Btw , Novated lease will really work to reduce tax if you earn more than 120k ( whatever the tax brackets of higher income starts ) by paying car lease and home loan and meals entertainment before tax applied

      • Thanks everyone her income is around $70k but the family income is higher so it's affordable in that respect.

I wasn't sure if it went off her income or the family income. Just wondered if it was an option given the saving on the car, fuel, tax etc.

        Thanks

        • It's based on individual income. There are some savings and benefits however try avoid this poor resale value European car.

    • Nah. Has to be highest tax bracket after deductions for it to make sense.

    • +2

You’re getting a lot of bad advice here seemingly based on ICE experience with NL. No one has acknowledged that the EV isn’t subject to FBT under the EV discount - in effect the lease (including operating costs) comes off your partner’s salary PRE-tax. That’s a decent saving even in the 30% tax income bracket and even accounting for the lease fees and interest payments - nets to ~20% discount.
Go get a few quotes, costs you nothing, and have a chat to your accountant.
Finally you can claim 4.2c/km for electricity, and if you get a good electricity deal might only pay 1.5-2c/km charging at home. So more money in your pocket!

      • +2

Thanks very much for the reply and comment 👍

Sounds like a good idea to chat to the accountant and see if it's a viable option.

        • +2

Verrry roughly, if she grabs one of these on a 5 year novated lease, it's going to cost something like $300 every 2 weeks, all inclusive.

So if she gets paid $2100 every 2 weeks right now, she'll be taking home somewhere around $1800 with the lease - and that's all inclusive, covers rego, insurance, tyres, servicing, everything. She'll only need to pay electricity to charge it, 8c per KWh with OVO EV plan from midnight until 6am.

Do not fall into the buy with high upvote trap!

  • -1

They must be selling cheap because the battery is flat

    • +1

So you want curved/ bendy batteries instead. Got it ✌️

  • Any comments on this vs the MG4?

It seems to have a lot more features and space for a bit less range.

    • +3

I’ve test driven both, I’m buying this.

    • This is a MUCH better car in every way. They were overpriced at 65k. For 40k I think it’s a bargain. Peugeot design and interiors are excellent, and they drive beautifully.

      • -1

Only to lose its resale value drastically n very very hard to get spare parts.

        • +3

Meh. Resale not so much a concern with EV. I would hesitate to buy a brand new Peugeot ICE car, but once they are over 3 years old they are outstanding value for the quality and features you get. I’d rather drive something a bit more unique and enjoyable than a dull and boring appliance. I’ve never had any trouble getting parts either, they do seem to keep a good supply in Australia these days. I’ve had two genuine windscreens, fan controller, timing chain tensioner, all readily available with no issues. Can also import from the UK yourself.

  • Don't forget the annual price of car insurance on this too. YMMV, but I just ran an estimate of 1.7k with a 1k excess.

    • Just under 1K for me, NRMA, NSW with same excess.

    • +2

Dont have insurance on a ICE car? They arent cheap to insurance neither.

At 34k in Qld after rebate this isnt bad for a commuter

  • +1

Would you buy this over an used Tesla?

    • +1

God yes. A used Tesla with no maintenance vs a brand new Peugeot with full warranty. Easiest decision I'd ever have to make

      • -2

wait until you need to charge it every 10 mins. 320km range which is not even real life range. You will soon be looking to get rid of it.

        • +1

I don’t think it can go so fast that it will cover 300km in 10 minutes.

        • +2

What, in your opinion, is “real life range”? Most people aren’t towing boats across the Nullarbor.

          • @smartazz104: Probably 250km roughly with mix of urban/highway driving. Even less if mostly highway.
