Breville The Bambino Plus Espresso Coffee Machine $499 + Delivery ($0 C&C/In-Store) @ Harvey Norman

130

Breville Bambino Plus Coffee Machine - BES500BSS- in stainless steel or seasalt (white) on special at Harvey Norman for $499. Everywhere else is $599, not the lowest ever but a good price for an ok coffee machine, well suited to small apartments or kitchens. This is for the Plus version with auto milk frothing, not the standard Bambino which regularly sells for $399

Also includes a bonus on line class (expires 26 May) and half price coffee, wouldn't put too much value in that.

Been like this for months. Bought one a while back at this price

  • I looked two weeks ago and it wasn't there, also checked all the obvious places, bought one last night as I needed it for a gift and didn't want to pay $599. They were $499 in January at HN, so I think it is pretty regular.

    Nice machine for steaming eggs

    • Sorry

The steaming milk part just imparts steam into the jug. You can add a some butter and eggs and turns out perfectly cooked as it sets

      User name checks out

I believe it may be a niche reference to Martha Stewart using an espresso machine to cook scrambled eggs using the steam wand on a coffee machine. It's been tested by James Hoffman too. Works REASONABLY well. Done it many times myself. Doesn't deserve the negs imo.

The 'one to two month delivery' at Amazon put me off

      • True, didn't notice that. Good call out.

  • Have had one for years now, great little machine and the auto frothing just makes it easy.
I bought one 3 years ago @439, so this is still pretty good value

Have one of these for 4 years now coupled with Breville Smart Grinder Pro. Awesome combination for my needs.

I make 4 cups of coffee per day and the wife uses the milk jug for Chai Latte. Quality of product is exceptional and you can buy spares for it. I've brought a couple of their baskets and replacement tip for the milk but that's it.

11.6sec for the beans to be ground and a perfect cup every time. I would buy another one if mine every fails completely - it's hard to drink coffee out when this one does such a good job for quality of pour and consistency of milk temperature.

    • 11.6sec for the beans to be ground

First time seeing somebody precisely grinds beans by time and not by coarsness level + weight/volume! ;)

      • I'm the only coffee drinker so it's set and forget on the coarseness but with the coffee Grinder having it dispense the exact amount every time with virtually no wastage means weight and volume should be more exact 🤞

    • It's so surprisingly common for baristas to burn milk, even at high end cafes. It's ridiculous.

    • What size do you grind?

Have the Breville Smart Grinder Pro set to 12 - works great on that. I'm no coffee aficionado but when i saw Expresso down that way, I thought I'd try and it's been there ever since.

I use the award winning Aldi medium Arabic beans - I find them very nice to my taste and at $15/kg my wallet is happy too.

Managed to luck into the $360 deal with Good Guys Commercial a few years ago.

We have the Bambino plus and Breville Smart Grinder pair. Works very well. He has coffee and I have hot chocolate.

Me too, same with the grinder. It's been four years since then during the lockdown before Breville prices jumped up. Both still going well :)

  • Gauggino mod it to make it on par with $$$$ machines. Different machine, but same pump, thermoblock etc.

The beauty of this is it is very quick to heat up, the autofrothing and the small footprint.

Concerning amount of people in here raving about their smart Grinder pro…

      How dare they be happy?!

      • Yeah, god forbid we spend our own money on something we want.

        • I thought this website was about maximising the value you get out of the dollars you spend?

@bumluffa: Yes it is but you aren’t actually saying anything useful. You are making a comment that is light on detail and not providing any reasoning for your comment. You have no idea what people’s requirements and experiences are.

  • I have one of these. Nifty small machine but one point to note
    - Gets stuck in the cleaning notification which can't be cleared. My machine allows me to bypass it and keep making coffee however there's plenty of online comments about how their machine doesn't allow the bypass.

    • Apparently some can and some can’t. Mine can’t and it is annoying.

      • What do you do try2bhelpful when the cleaning notification comes up? Take it for a service or clean it yourself?

        • It doesn’t need a service, it just needs the cleaning tablet put into the portafilter and run the cleaning cycle. The problem is if you have already ground the coffee into it then you have to empty it and put the coffee back in afterwards.

          • @try2bhelpful: Thanks very much, I can see the frustration

            • +1

@slowlyslowly: It is a bit weird that some units you can bypass it and some you can’t. It wouldn’t take much to have a “one more cup” option in the software.

              • @try2bhelpful: Oh wow, that would be a deal breaker for me.

Imagine being in a hurry only to see that your machine won't work, because just in that moment its clock registered exactly eg. 50 working hours since the last cleaning. Kinda solution to that would be to occasionally run that cleaning cycle (even without the tablet and accessories) when not in use, so it zeroes the timer and considers itself cleaned.

My BBE almost always has the "clean me" LED on. It's soft water where I live, I know it doesn't need cleaning.

@pizzaguy: It isn’t a deal breaker to us because it is just an inconvenience. However, I’m surprised they haven’t done more to fix this given it has been around for many years.
