Part of the DIY Sale. You'll have to fight your way past the pensioners who'll be there to grab an Aldi Tracksuit.

Elbows in and protect your chin(s).

can these be installed in Strata property?

    • +2

      Maybe ask your Strata?

      • -2

        I havent moved in yet

      • Assuming you own it and are not renting, broad strata rules are that you inside the unit. Door (and fittings), windows (and fittings), walls, roof & floor (under flooring) belong to strata. Some Body corporates may legally register variations (@ $1k per variation from memory and that was about 8 years ago). You may also be able to apply for ad-hoc permission to change your lock. If so, you'd have to agree to wear all costs.

I know of someone who was very recently unable to access their unit because her lock failed. She called a locksmith. The locksmith spent about four hours trying to open the door and ended up breaking in. All costs, including locksmiths time, repair and replacement of lock were met by strata. She only suffered inconvenience. If she'd fitted her own luck the story would have ended differently.

Attend strata meetings. They are a PITA and can get very personal, but at least you know what's going on and there's a chance you'll spot any dodgy dealings.

        • And if some members starts getting to chatty, just turn the discussion to flat earth theory. That will shut them up.

I live in NSW, they would need to have certification to comply with fire safety regulations.

      Not sure about other states.

      • ok thanks , I'm guessing any with fire safety certs will be $$$

        • +1

The problem is even if the brand says it's certified it needs to pass an annual inspection which can vary depending on who turns up.

Also you'd be modifying strata property, fire doors are expensive so it's not worth the hassle.

Check Lockwood out, I’ve heard that they are certified.

      • You'll also likely need to get it professionally installed by a locksmith.

      • Its not about the lock being certified - the "fire rated door" gets certified with the lock - the whole install gets certified as a single piece.

Changing the lock, means the door is no longer certified - the whole thing needs to be certified again

A Lockpicking Lawyer quote in the wild!

  • If you have french doors where the handle faces the other way, you're fkd lol

Just approach the door backwards & it will be ok.

The French are good at retreating

    • +1

I suspect you can probably take out and flip around the handle.

  • 2-way audio speaking

Thanks heavens. Don't want the dog developing bad habits.

Anyone know what app this one uses? Wonder if it would be able to be integrated with home assistant at all.

    • +2

If I was going to bet, I would say it would be Tuya - most of these cheaper smart home devices are Tuya based. But I don’t have anything factual to base this assumption on.

If it is Tuya based, the functionality you get in HomeAssistant could vary - depending on if you use Tuyalocal or the cloud integration..

In 9 days, I think I won't remember this deal.

    • me neither

    • !remindme 9d "Aldi lock sale"

I know this is Ozbargain and all, and no doubtedly this is a bargain.. but is the front door to your home the thing you want to get the absolute cheapest item on? maybe a good deal on a known brand with good reviews might be a better choice

    • +1

It’s good for something like the internal door leading to the garage.

  • isnt this one of those that can be broken into via some smart master key

  • There are so many reviews of smart locks available online.

It will take you no more than 5min to realise that NONE of them mention anything about this ALDI Smart Lock.

And this has been around since 2017?!? Yeah nah…. 7 years on the market and still nothing anywhere online? You'd be mad to buy it!

    • So it should be good enough that people don't feel like they have to put negative reviews about it on the internet.

    • that is deadbolt

    • this has a few good reviews, and at $1 cheaper i cant see why you would go with the Aldi one

      • Not saying it's bad, just that Bunnings has it for $168 as regular price and prob better return policy.

      • The ALDI one has a built in camera. I have two of the Orion ones, they are good, the app is garbage.

  • Any idea if this would work on a gate (where both sides have to be waterproof)?
