  • How to install it

    • +2

      From previous comment:

This can be used with any Head unit that uses an RCA video in. So pretty much everything from Sony XAV/Kenwood/JVC/Pioneer and some Alpines that don't use a 5 pin connector or use CAM-ALP-ADP with the 5 Pin Alpine video in's.

      You reverse into the camera

    • +2
      1. Install it where you want.

      2. Plug the RCA into your head unit.

      3. Quick splice your reverse light cable

      done

      • RCA into head unit but still splice reverse light cable? Why?

        • +7

I think it's so putting it in reverse triggers the camera, otherwise it's just on all the time, if you're into that sort of thing

  • Could this be installed on a camper trailer?

    • +1

Yes, it's not vehicle specific / object specific.

      • +2

Even a train? Which I could also afford.

  • +2

These aren’t bad especially compared to most under $100, just remember to make the cable accessible as you will be replacing them, I got one free with a head unit I bought and it lasted 2yrs on the front of a Ute going through a lot of great weather

  • My current one has gone hazy (sun damage).

For video, do you think I can splice in a new one or would that ruin the image/not work?
Trying to avoid running the wire again….

    • Is your one the Pioneer RCAMAVIC or another brand?

  • I guess this doesn't have parking lane lines ?

    • +1

I've connected this to an Atoto headunit, it has static parking lanes (no predictive turning lines) - But, I'm not sure if that is a headunit or camera feature.

      • I think it's ATOTO adding the lines in.

Have the same ones on my rando ebay reverse camera

  • Not a bad price. I installed a comparable Kenwood CMOS-130 camera on my car not long ago for about $30.

Neither have parking lines. Some may find this a good thing.

They are just RCA so any head unit with RCA camera in will work. You may need to run the RCA cable down the side of the car and tap into the reverse light loom to install aftermarket.

  • Only 1 per account. 😪

Thanks though OP, I grabbed one of these at the start of 2023 for $30.

    • Did you put it back down or install it?

      • +1

Nah, still sitting in a box somewhere, sorry..

        • +4

still sitting in a box somewhere

          This is the way.

  • Does this come with its own wiring? If not, where do you even get all that? And what to get?

    • +1

      Yes it does

    • +4

Yes, this is included. I had to cut off the male plug to connect to my JVC KW-M750BT.

  • Can anybody recommend a decent/cheap wireless reversing camera? eg https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/305327246484

Just need something for a camper trailer but don't want to wire it all the way through

    • +1

Stick a ring doorbell back there, linked to your phone…

      • Brilliant, I can use my old Ring v1 doorbell. Just need to run around and press the button before reversing. The live view never worked reliably…

        • hahahahahahahah sorry just imaginging you walking out to press the doorbell on the camper :D
this is a great idea though and will likely give this a go too!

  • Has anyone tried to combine multiple of these to make a 360/birdseye view?
Would be pretty cool to retrofit 360 view on older/lower trim models.
Not necessarily this camera, but there must be some other way to add this very useful feature.

    • +1

Check out Kenwoods head units, they have this feature. Also some lesser known brands like Teyes have this (cheaper option).

      • +2

I have a Teyes unit with the 360 cameras and it is amazing

        • +1

I was looking at putting a CC3 in my 4WD for the 360 cameras alone (can't see out of the back due to camping fitout). I see there's now a new LUX ONE model so will need to read up on the differences.
Teyes offer good value for the cost.

        • Could you please tell me what model do you have and how/where did you get it installed?
Edit : I have a Hyundai Santa Fe 2020 Elite but it only has reverse camera.

    • +1

You can get one of those Chinese 360 birdeye view cameras from Aliexpress and connect it to any Alpine, Kenwood etc..

  • Thanks OP, cheap enough to keep as a spare for the next time existing one craps out

    • Do they crap out regularly?

I didn't think people would need reverse cam spares.

      • +1

Darwin harsh UV and weather eats them randomly. Depends most how they're mounted/protected from the elements in my experience.

  • I want to replace one that came with Hyundai Santa Fe, its crap
I do not want to mess with the wires - will this work as replacement?

    • +1

You'll have to "mess" with wires no matter what you do. There's a chance you could just cut the old one's wires and hook it up to this one - presuming the power stats etc are all the same.

  • Of course this happens when I just bought it last week for $40…

  • Will this work with Sony XAV-AX1000

  • +3

Anyone recommend a decent small screen to pair with these? Would like one for my old triton but don't want to install a new head unit.

    • -1

i think any of those Chinese reverse camera screens come with a reverse camera already, and a better camera wouldn't help it if the screen resolution was bad

  • Thanks OP, hoping the picture quality will be better than the bargain-basement reverse cam I have at the moment 👍

  • Would this work on my dato 160b?

  • Can I replace my Toyota factory reverse camera with this? Would love to know from someone who's done it without changing Toyota head unit. Thanks

    • +2

Im doing the same. 2021 prados reverse camera is awful. Don't see why the head unit would need changing.

      • +2

2023 Corolla cross here, despite being higher trim model, all four cameras are aweful. I suppose their rear cross traffic alert or rear sensors aren't related to these cameras (that can't be because camera quality is that bad..lol)

        • same here, our Corolla Cross reverse camera views look like there are from 10-15 years ago

  • Thanks OP, grabbed one.

  • Thanks OP, purchased for my Z3 (not that I really needed it)!

  • Thanks OP!

  • Does this work utes? I'm guessing no.

  • Hi Folks, what's a great "always On" Reverse Mirror. (like in the latest Corvette!)
