MyCar for tyres is a no brainer for me… Free puncher repair, 12M road side assistance, free tyre rotation… Sweet 20% off on top…

    • +2

If not in a rush and you already have road side assistance, I always get my tyres from Tyroola and get them delivered to whatever place is near me (last few times delivered next business day), and get charged ~$20 for fitment from the shop. I find the total has been consistently cheaper and there are always discount codes to bring it down further.

YMMV of course, but it's good to compare prices.

Puncture repair isn't that expensive in most garages.

      • +3

mycar does price beat. Can get them to beat Tyroola.

        • I believe they match the delivered and fitted price from Tyroola.

          • @chyawala: you are right. Its always like for like price beat. I have used price beat when I found it cheaper at Tyroola when there are no promotions at mycar. mycar also beats the buy 3 get one free offers. Check their website for the current price beat t&Cs.

        • Do they price beat and then take the further 20% off?

      • +1

Puncture repair isn’t expensive unless you need to replace a tire which mycar did for me.

        • How much is "not expensive"? I had a flat few months ago, went to local mycar who was too busy so asked me to return the next morning. I ended up going to a Bridgestone and was charged $50.

          • +2

@Craze: $15 kit can fix your tyres 4 times and over, as long as the puncture isnt on the side wall.

          • @Craze: it is about $40-50 so you not off track too much

      • ask them to beat temp tyre?

    • +1

Does anyone know if the free puncture repair can be done at any MyCar stores, or is it only specific to the one where you bought your tires?

      • +1

Any. They didn’t have stock at the location I bought my tyres at and sent me to another one near my home

    • +1

"mycar Roadside Assistance is complimentary for 12 months after a Logbook or Essential Plus Service."

How are you getting this for free on tyre purchases?

Their logbook services are $150+ more expensive than my mechanic, so they have really just built it into the price.

      • We're talking about puncture repairs and mycar purchased tyres…

        • The original comment "MyCar for tyres is a no brainer for me… Free puncher repair, 12M road side assistance…"

You do not get 12M road side assistance when buying tyres, only when getting car serviced. (Unless there is something i cant see… happy to be corrected)

          • @q9707418: Sorry. thought you were replying to me and didnt see that comment

30% off EV tyres last month is a good hold out for me.

    • +1

Which EV tyres will you get?

    • Why are ev tyres different? Serious question.

      • +1

EVs are 20-30% heavier than ICE cars so the tyres are designed to support the extra weight and some tyres have foam on the inside to supress noise

        • My RWD example below shows a 10% surplus.

Also note that both are curb weight which means it is measure without fuels snd liquids.
So for most modern sedans similar but the C250 Bluetec (66L) i used for the comparison to the Model 3 RWD. Which is approximately 66kg.

The delta then drops from 10% to 6%. Which most would agree is negligible.

EVs are 20-30% heavier than ICE cars so the tyres are designed to support the extra weight and some tyres have foam on the inside to supress noise

Yup, so they not only on damage the road more because of their weight, they also need tyres replaced more often and produce more break dust.

But you try explain that to a climate activist and you have better chance to get blood out of a stone than for them to understand ✌️green✌️ is just a word not an outcome.

          • +1

@vash5: First of all… its Brake, not break. Learn about how EV's use regenerative braking first before making a comment. Also, weight of a car has nothing to do with damaging roads, there are heavier vehicles out on the roads called trucks and buses. The tyres for ev's require a different design, same as any other vehicle class would do. What a nonsense comment, seriously!

      • +1

EV tyres are claimed to be better in rolling resistance, resulted in longer range.

      • +4

For comparison, Tesla Model 3 has a curb weight of 1760kg, whilst a C250 Bluetec is 1595kg.

That 165kg delta. Basically 2x fit males.

Its not as big a difference as the media play it out to be.

EV tyres do have a foam insert to reduce the road drumming that occurs because they dont have engine noise and vibration to mask it.

Even less when you add fuel (66kg) fuel to the C250, plus oils etc.

        • yes - people get sucked in, see the amount of dumb shit on the ev facebook groups.

    • What size batteries do they take?

  • Only problem is that the tyres I'm after are still 10% more expensive after the discount than at other stores.

    • +1

So go the price beat route.

      • Can you price match and then apply 20% off?

    • Yes because its only 20% off.

  • Fantastic. Although their prices are normally 20% more expensive, this means I don't have to stuff around with tyroola and their fitting.

  • Interesting that their is no topcashback for the duration of the promotion

  • I'll be looking to take advantage of this and the current BF Goodrich promotion to get a set of ko3's.

  • It seems for my size, the only options I have are 6 premium tyres all between 450-550 each.

Tried selecting different stores, but the results were the same.

Was looking for something mid tier.

  • +1

Their tyres are too expensive even with the 20% off.

  • +2

Don't pay for any wheel alignments. :)

  • +1

They don't carry Michelin? Wish they did though…

    • The conditions of the deal do include Michelin. But I note that there is a very limited range available in the size I want, and they don't include the Michelins that'd fit my car that I'd want.

  • +1

    tempe tyres much better price

    • Same price for me once everything is factored in. A lot more convenient too

  • Conditions of deal say the 20% off only applies to tyres IN STOCK.

So if you want something they don't have some of IN STOCK you're out of luck.

  • Anyone know how much it'll cost on top for any Labor (tyre fitting)?

    • +2

How much it'll cost on top for Labor?

There's nothing in the Labor election platform for an additional charge for tyres.

  • What a shitty website… Can't go to the second page of tyres, and the filters don't work…

  • -1

Shitty website - which happens when they want something fancy and modern

  • I always get my tyres from Tempe tyres.
I thought they have the cheapest price ?

    • Do they offer free tyre rotations and puncher repais ?

  • -1

I only need one tyre at the moment (bloody nail in sidewall), and was considering going Pirelli so I can take advantage of the Black Friday deal for the other corners in November.

    PIRELLI POWERGY - MyCar: $335. JAX: $269

    PIRELLI CINTURATO P7 - MyCar: $429. JAX: $319

    This is RRP.. (:rolleyes;)

  • +2

I had a disappointing experience with MyCar and won’t be returning. Their prices are overrated, even with the 20% discount, it’s still expensive!!

    • +1

I’ve had some negative and dishonest experiences with Mycar. During Black Friday Pirelli deals last year, they said my tyre size was being discontinued with no supply. Lo and behold the same tyre is available today. I’d recommend checking your tyre pressures if you buy from them; after buying a set years ago the tyre pressures were all at 20. I went to Bob Jane and had a completely different experience.

  • Anyone have thoughts on their Viking brand tyres…

    https://www.mycar.com.au/tyres/viking/teratech-ht/235-65R17/…

For a Volvo XC-60… inner suburban / freeway usage.

Only $205 per tyre (before discount) which is their cheapest option for my vehicle.

    • cheapest option for my vehicle.

Buying the cheapest tyres you can find, is going to give you the worst tyres you can find. That's why they're the cheapest !

It'd be crazy to get some unknown random tyres like those for $205 when you can get a known unit like the Bridgestones for $45 more - first example price I found (that you can probably beat if you look around) https://www.jaxtyres.com.au/tyres/bridgestone/ecopia-hl001?s…

      • Good feedback thanks

        • In a nutshell, you'll always be fine if you stick to the main guys Michelin, Continental, Pirelli, Bridgestone.

Each brand has sportier tyres (more grip, less life) and economical tyres (less grip, more life) so you can choose the trade-off you want.

      • Aren't Vikings made by Continental? Same with their avandra tyres.

        • What if they are ?
This does not mean you're getting Continental tyres at Viking prices.

    • Tyres are not something to cheap out on my friend, especially if you are driving kids around.

  • -1

My problem with them is that they don't do wheel alignment. You will need it.

  • God it's annoying that my car is run-flats without a spare wheel.
