MDF material shelves which do not warp or crack easily

I'll believe non warping MDF when I see it!

Got these. The MDF absolutely stinks if that concerns anyone. I should have painted them.

    • Good feedback.

The Montgomery brand from Bunnings also has stinking MDF. Need to paint or stain them too. No amount of "airing" them out stops the off-gassing.

The Pinnacle brand from Bunnings has decent MDF which doesn't stink, but YMMV.

I've got 8 Montgomery units and have never noticed any smell at all, not even when they were brand new. Different batches or suppliers maybe?

      • The Montgomery brand, The Pinnacle brand…

I think these are all made in the same factory. I bought some storage that was all identical only some of it had 'Pinnacle' on the shrinkwrap label (so not added afterwards) and some had 'Montgomery'. All identical, all scanned the same at checkout. Maybe you just got a bad batch.

    • I believe the gas is formaldehyde from not curing properly. Carcinogenic. Agree that it stinks forever.

Finally somewhere to store all my 30cm rulers. Just.

Seriously. The extra dept of a 540mm or 600mm unit is an absolutely game changer…

    • yes i agree it’s too short and not deep enough

      • Giggity.

      • yes i agree it’s too short and not deep enough

Depends what you use them for. I have both deep ones for large things and these for smaller stuff. Horses for courses.

  • There was some guy who said archival grade shelves on Ebay are way better.

  • Only $60, but TINY

  • I add a melamine shelf over the MDF when I store items that might leak

  • The depth is short (D300mm). I got a similar product from OW for $19 last year. Assembly is hard work, and I found the leg uprights are about 20mm higher than the top shelve which prevent placing things a bit overhang on its sides. The shelves I got from Bunnings don't have this "design fault" !

Do yourself a favour and stop buying flimsy shelves. Pay a bit more and get the proper industrial all metal shelving, something like this:
    https://www.superrack.com.au/product-category/longspan-shelv…

You can get different width, depths and heights with a span of up to 2m. I’ve got the 0.6m deep white ones on each side of my shed and love them. Try to get a long span so you can store a big tent or gazebo on it.

You definitely won’t regret the extra money spent.

  • FYI these MDF shelves are mould magnets 🧲
They come up nice if you have the patience to paint them.
