Alternative to Netflix? Perfect time as all Netflix choppers are down right now. 🤦‍♂️

Description from expired post.

Install Stremio + Buy Offcloud = Basically like a Lifetime Netflix sub for $40usd.

Stremio works amazingly well with real-debrid, but it costs $16 EUR every 6 months.
Instead I've found Offcloud works very nicely with Stremio and they currently offer a lifetime subscription on stacksocial for $40.
They've been around since 2009 (14 years). You can watch unlimited Stremio streams with a Offcloud lifetime sub.

So what is Stremio?
It's an open source app similar to Plex/Kodi available on Windows, Mac, Linux, Google Play with over 10+ million installs. (4.2/5 rating). Most of the streams are 1080p/4K.

What is Real-Debrid/Offcloud?
It downloads and caches torrents/usenet files remotely and then streams the content to you, so you never have an issue with ISP complaints.

How do I install Stremio + Offcloud so they work together?
Read this:
https://www.reddit.com/r/StremioAddons/comments/yi5jdw/ultim…

The part where you choose "Real-Debrid" from dropdown menu, instead choose Offcloud and enter the Offcloud API, which can be found in Accounts > API Key.

Once you try Stremio + Offcloud for a few days, it's time to go cord cutting.

"**NOTE: The guide suggests checking 'Don't show download to debrid links' – I recommend not checking this. By leaving it unchecked, you enable streaming even if the title isn't available, caching the file for others. If checked, you might see 'No streams available' if the file isn't cached, which disadvantages you and everyone else in the long term."

How can I tell if a file is cached and ready for instant streaming?
If the link shows [OC+] the file is cached, if it shows [OC-download], then it means you need to fetch it/cache it.

  • Worth the price. Lot of new content in 4k but olders movies and TV shows are in 1080p but still it is better than paying insane amount for different streaming service. I am with More NBN and i have to use VPN otherwise my stream buffer, ISP throttling probably. Also, not much of foreign movies for now.

  • As many others have said, there's no comparison to RD. I tried this after my RD subscription had expired but found it hopeless and ended up going back to RD regardless. Not sure whether its possible to configure Stremio to get feeds from both RD and Offcloud in case there's content on Offlcloud that's not on RD. That's the only way I could imagine getting any value out of my lifetime access.

    • You can, just setup 2 torrentio profiles (one with RD, the other with Offcloud). Then you'll see links from both. I use RD, but Offcloud is there for backup.
Offcloud sucks with 4K but 1080p is smooth. The only error I've had is the playback issue, but that usually happens if your IP is not whitelisted on the streaming device. In this case just grab ip from whatismyip.com then goto Offcloud dashboard > Settings > IP Address.

      • What device you watching on? It works for me PC but android is a PITA to get working.

  • Works out to be $44.98 USD with all the tax and handling charges. Lifetime Subscription is nice if you need a second debrid.

I thought mods banned piracy posts. Weird

    • What piracy? I like getting my Linux distros from RD.

      • -6

For some reason ozbargain mods turn a blind eye to paid piracy

        • -1

Not really. You’re just assuming this service is being used for piracy. Caching torrents isn’t an illegal service.

          • @zubzub: hahaha

            • +1

@belongsinforums: I get what you’re saying. Your point just isn’t valid. The service is legal…. Should deals for Chromecasts be banned too because people can do illegal things with it?

              • -3

@zubzub: If the primary purpose of a product is piracy, like a flash cart, or real debrid, then I understand why ozbargain should avoid promoting it. Nintendo is suing yuzu right now

                • @belongsinforums: Doesn’t matter. The product itself isn’t illegal so it breaks no rules. I’m guessing you don’t know about Usenet then… you may be shocked if you found out how that works.

    • +1

Offcloud has nothing to do with privacy. It’s a download proxy. That’s like saying VPN posts are piracy posts.

      • half the comments are about watching shows via real debrid.

    • @Hamza

      • watch any post about emulators get nuked

  • Can I use Stremio with real debrid on a Sony TV which supports Android TV / apps?

    • As long as you can install Stremio, yes.

    • Sure can. This this very thing yesterday and runs flawlessly!

  • Stremio alternative for Apple users: https://github.com/StreamerApp/Streamer

    • Can we connect real debris

  • Offcloud is by no means a valid alternative to RealDebrid.

    • I mean it's valid, it's just not nearly as good.

    • +1

nothing comes close to RD, its worth every $ and more.
other performed even Prime and other subscription services is bandwidth.

  • I actually bought this, then tried RD immediately and yes there are very obvious differences

    • What are they

      • Speed and just the amount of contents on cache is way better on RD

        • Thanks now i feel like my decision to buy rd is validated

  • Does this or RD support high quality contents eg 4k remux + TrueHD Atmos?

    • +2

Well depends what is available (and how you have it set up to display available content). I just tested something for my wife (using RD), 4K and 20GB and it loaded after about 4-5 secs. I didnt look at the specifics but it handles everything I through at it well enough.

    • It will depend on the device you’re using to run Stremio. Real Debrid won’t restrict what formats are streamed.

  • is this better than Syncler + RD, been using it for years now.
I have tried other alternatives to RD (Alldebrid, Premiumize ) but none have come even close since it all user driven.
RD has all the content and I'm able to stream 80gb HDR movies Zero buffering.

    • realdebrid, Alldebrid, Premiumize. which one has the more quicker speeds?

      • +1

haven't compared speed, but realdebrid almost max my 1GB nbn
this is user driven so more users = more content, so realdebrid is the best
far more content then any other.

  • It is not a lifetime license, the license only last 100 years ;p

  • Can someone please help me? In the stremio setup guide I am stuck at "Part 3 - Torrentio", where it says "Click "Install" at the bottom. It should open the Stremio app and prompt you with an "Install Addon" window. Click the green install button at the bottom."

When I click on the install button nothing happens. Does anyone know what I need to do to continue with the setup?

BTW, the text below is a copy of the setup instructions….
    Stremio Setup Guide

    Part 1: Stremio

For Windows/Mac users - Go to https://www.stremio.com/ and download the relevant client for your platform

For Android users - Install Stremio through the Google Play Store: Stremio - Apps on Google Play

Open Stremio and sign up with email or Facebook

    Part 2: Real Debrid

    Go to https://real-debrid.com/

    Go to Premium Offers

Choose a package and subscribe. I found that using Amazon Pay as the payment method is the most convenient (if you have an Amazon account)

    Part 3: Torrentio

Go to Torrentio Lite - Stremio Addon

Towards the bottom of the page, select the "Debrid Provider" option and select "Real Debrid" from the drop-down menu. This will cause a new text box to appear underneath.

Copy the API key from this link https://real-debrid.com/apitoken and paste it into the "RealDebrid API Key**"** box

In the Debrid Options menu: Check the box "Don't show download to debrid links" and leave the other boxes unchecked.

Click "Install" at the bottom. It should open the Stremio app and prompt you with an "Install Addon" window. Click the green install button at the bottom.

Optional but highly Recommended - In Stremio, click the puzzle piece in the top right to view your addons. Click "My Addons" and uninstall the "WatchHub" addon. It's an eyesore and it clutters your streams list.

    • If stremio it should just work?
If you’re not doing it on pc, try it with pc

So the question is, how much does RD cost and are there any deals going with it?

    • 3 EUR for 15 days
      4 EUR for 30 days
      9 EUR for 90 days
16 EUR for 180 days (the cheapest per day option)

I am not sure if there are any deals. I would like to know that too.

      • And can it be shared? Like between atleast 4 locations?

        • The guide suggests no, or keeping it to same users on network - I’m streaming it with my 5G connection at 3 different locations so will be interesting to see if I get banned

        • +1

And can it be shared? Like between atleast 4 locations?

One stream at a time? Yes.
          Concurrently? No.

    • +1

If you purchase the 16 euro one 5 times you will end up with 4000 fidelity points that you can exchange for 4x30days which nets you 2.8 years of debrid for $133 or $47.5 a year. That is the cheapest way I have found.

You don't have to purchase it all at once but it is a way visualising what you would pay combined with the point system over 2.8 years barring any price increases/currency exchange shenanigans.

      • Thanks for the breakdown. So basically just pay for 5 16 euro packs at the same time, or add them up after each 6 months blocks?

        • Yeah, personally I don't trust RD not to get shutdown enough to preload 5 payments. But with the way the point system works 5 payments is the best value. The sixth payment would be worse value again like starting at 1.

Ideally to minmax value you should make sure to stop using the service in multiples of 5 ;p. But in the least avoid the 6th 11th 16th ect being your last.

1 payment is $53.98 per year
2 payments is $49.83 per year
3 payments is $48.56 per year
4 payments is $47.96 per year
5 payments is $47.61 per year

  • Op you should also add $0.99 for the handling fee. Unless there is a way to rid of that?

  • I went ahead after debating with myself, have mixed feelings.
It's untrue that cached content doesn't count towards your personal cloud limit, at least that's happening in my case.
    What I did:
I triggered a few cached 4k contents, to then download easily via the cache, I can see now that my cloud has 0GB space left.
I triggered it via starting and stopping individual episodes via the OC+ link - which resulted in them being immediately available for download via my cloud, but also triggering personal cloud to be immediately full.

Trying to stream something cached now is giving red screen with error "access denied".

    • I've had a torrent on offcloud with plenty of mirrors in my account for 3 weeks, still at 48% ended up downloading it directly through VPN, finished in an hour or so.
Did some Usenet downloads after I signed up to test, now noticed Usenet is disabled with offcloud..
