Alternative to Netflix? Perfect time as all Netflix choppers are down right now. 🤦‍♂️

Description from expired post.

Install Stremio + Buy Offcloud = Basically like a Lifetime Netflix sub for $40usd.

Stremio works amazingly well with real-debrid, but it costs $16 EUR every 6 months.
Instead I've found Offcloud works very nicely with Stremio and they currently offer a lifetime subscription on stacksocial for $40.
They've been around since 2009 (14 years). You can watch unlimited Stremio streams with a Offcloud lifetime sub.

So what is Stremio?
It's an open source app similar to Plex/Kodi available on Windows, Mac, Linux, Google Play with over 10+ million installs. (4.2/5 rating). Most of the streams are 1080p/4K.

What is Real-Debrid/Offcloud?
It downloads and caches torrents/usenet files remotely and then streams the content to you, so you never have an issue with ISP complaints.

How do I install Stremio + Offcloud so they work together?
Read this:
https://www.reddit.com/r/StremioAddons/comments/yi5jdw/ultim…

The part where you choose "Real-Debrid" from dropdown menu, instead choose Offcloud and enter the Offcloud API, which can be found in Accounts > API Key.

Once you try Stremio + Offcloud for a few days, it's time to go cord cutting.

"**NOTE: The guide suggests checking 'Don't show download to debrid links' – I recommend not checking this. By leaving it unchecked, you enable streaming even if the title isn't available, caching the file for others. If checked, you might see 'No streams available' if the file isn't cached, which disadvantages you and everyone else in the long term."

How can I tell if a file is cached and ready for instant streaming?
If the link shows [OC+] the file is cached, if it shows [OC-download], then it means you need to fetch it/cache it.

  • The Reddit link got truncated. Can you re-post please?

  • Will this work on Amazon fire tv stick? Like does it have an app for that?

RD has more cached especially older stuff. Not sure how sustainable Offcloud offering lifetime subscriptions is either. Think I’ll stick with RD

    • tru

      • What's RD :)

EDIT: Okay real debrid.. bookmarked th is like RTW one, for when I have a done money to spare

    • Healthy caution to have, but have been using OffCloud and it's lifetime (99 year) subscription for over seven years now.

Admittedly it was more useful when Google had its unlimited storage for a few dollars a month, but still has use these days.

    • +2

Any methods for getting RD cheaper using an alternate currency?

  • -2

    So this is piracy?

    • +14

      Legalised exactly like weed.

      • +15

        With both producing an offcloud.

    • +23

If buying isn't owning, piracy isn't stealing.

      • +4

Well here your just borrowing from a mate of a mate of a mate… That's not piracy since your not copying it.. Is it? 😂

        • Lol yeh I wouldn't pay for it tho :P

          • @Jaduqimon: Let’s say you paid for the bus ride to get to your mate’s then

        • -8

          you're*

      • -1

Just going to say, that logic is flaw. "I don't own it, so it's not stealing…"

        • +2

          permanent borrowing ;)

  • Rd is still overall better, more users = more files cached. Plus rd has Australia cdn not sure if this service does

    • +10

I have both and can confirm RD is so much faster and more reliable

  • -1

Thanks might look into this instead over RD

Made an account for RD but the confirmation email title said [Virus Error] REAL-DEBRID - Account Activation

… and googling didn’t give me any straight answers.

    • +3

it's probably an over zealous AV, they often count piracy things as evil malware.

but this was my legit activation email

      Hello <insert username>

This email confirms your registration on our website but your account is not yet activated, you can do this right here:

if you have any question or issue with our service do not hesitate to contact us on "Support" rubric

      Best regards, Real-Debrid team.

      • Thanks yeah that’s what mine said too

The no full stop after ‘rubric’ also threw me

  • Does this work on Apple TV?

    • Don’t think so

    • There are IPTV solutions for Apple TV, but I can't remember what the current best app for it is.

    • Stremio itself is not on Apple TV unless you sideload. There are ways to use infuse to make it work with stremio on your phone. I don’t think it’s worth it for the poor experience. You’re better off running it on a fire/google tv

    • You can use wako tv on your phone to add the file to realdebrid, then use infuse connected to the realdebrid WEBDAV to watch :)

Idk about this service but rd does work

    • Yes however not through Stremio. Streamerapp is essentially the same thing for Apple TV, iOS etc.

  • -3

    But Torrentio is free?

Also Netflix still works by Turkish gift card

    • +3

but RD is better in that it hides your IP and caches streams, so there's no interruptions.

      here's an explanation at Medium
      https://medium.com/@divitia/stream-smarter-not-harder-a-guid…

      .

      • It hides your IP from your ISP but RD record and store it for one year. In turn if not connecting to them via VPN, they can trace back to you should the powers that be ever request it from them.

        • +1

yep, same could be said for a VPN.

Of course the issue with torrents is that you're downloading & seedling at the same time, thus you are technically distributing copyrighted material, which is legally considered a much more serious offence (and if you're seeding to say 1000 others, they'll claim a loss of 1000 x cost of Bluray) then simply downloading (single cost of a Bluray). with RD cached streams you are downloading/streaming a copy, thus you are not distributing copyrighted material.

  • +39

Regret buying this the last time it was posted. Can't hold a candle to Real-Debrid.

Pathetically slow speeds recently (<1 MB/s) with the max I've ever seen being ~3.5 MB/s. (Unusable if you're hoping to stream 4K.) Hardly anything I try is cached. Frequent download fails (red X's) through their web interface. I have none of these issues with Real-Debrid.

    • +5

Cheers looks like RD it is

    • +1

Yup I had the same experience. Waste of money at least for me.

      • See my comment below and try it with an American VPN. It might be salvageable for you :)

        • I tried using offcloud on my chromecast with google tv via a VPN and unfortunately it would come up with HTTP errors when trying to stream. So it doesn't even start.

Tried it on just my Android phone and although i don't get an error it also doesn't start playback.

          Any ideas?

          • @a l an: ok i just bit the bullet and paid for 6 months of real-debrid and its a night and day difference.

Worth the money in my opinion.

Wish i didn't spend the money on Off Cloud as its just crap.

            • @a l an: Yeah RD is just way better, alldebrid too.

Just sucks to have wasted money. Likely your issues were related to the whitelisted IP addresses. Offcloud only allows 3 different IP addresses associated with your account at a time. You have to go the website, into your settings security and delete the entries then try again.

Sounds like you're sorted with RD for the time being but after 6-months try give it a crack. Although, I suspect it will be hard to look back from RD.

Note that RD you will be banned if they discover two different IP addresses connecting at the same time but you can have 5 devices on the same IP connect at once. So make sure you keep this in mind if putting Stremio onto portable devices.

              • @Castcore: thanks for the advice re RD. Sucks about the portable device thing but can understand the reasoning. Its unlikely i'd be using it at the same time but will keep it in mind to not stream on RD whilst i'm travelling without family (eg for work).

    • Agreed! I got it from the last deal and majority of the things I wanted are extremely slow to get. I'd rather pay for real-debrid then getting this.

      • See my comment below and try it with an American VPN. It might be salvageable for you :)

    • Another agreed! I also got this last time and thought I might as well. RD is the way to go.

      • See my comment below and try it with an American VPN. It might be salvageable for you :)

    • Agreed. Down the drain

      • See my comment below and try it with an American VPN. It might be salvageable for you :)

    • +4

      Just some extra information!
While I definitely agree RD is leagues better, this does have its place. I used to be able to get ~6MB/s on a 50/20 plan when downloading files but always had issues streaming on android Stremio and directly in VLC on an iPad. When I switched over to using the windows stremio however, I had zero loading and buffering issues. There is definitely something weird that goes on with how Offcloud handles mobile devices. I can use an American VPN on the iPad and the buffering issues go away 100%. Nothing on Android.

Since then I have switched to a 1000/50 plan, and easily get 80MB/s on downloads from Offcloud, sometimes they just take a minute to warm up. As a result of this, buffering issues also went away. Suffice to say, I won't deny it has issues but the servers are definitely capable of a lot more, there's just some sort of shaping that's happening somewhere based on devices and connection.

RD Def's better, has more cached content, adds content to the cache faster, higher personal cloud limit, faster servers. Offcloud has issues adding content sometimes but it does technically work most of the time as long as you verify the source has seeds, and if you add something to your cloud a bit ahead of time before you want to watch it, it will be there later and it will work. If you get errors saying you can't play it, I discovered that's an issue with how Torrentio uses the API.

If you already own it and you have buffering issues, try an American VPN!!!! If that doesn't help, try it on desktop Stremio client with the same file (no VPN) and see if it just plays immediately and you'll see what I mean.

I probably don't recommend buying it unless your primary use case will be on windows.

Finally, I made an iOS shortcut using the API to load stuff in your cloud and open in VLC, see here.

      • +1

You seem one of the very few to spend positive words on OC , yet you are the only one who have neggd the deal. Why?

        • +3

Yeah so good question, it's because I don't think it's worth it for 98% of people who are going to see this deal.

There's a few too many hoops to jump through to get a good experience and even then sometimes there will be issues. For eg. Content not being able to be added to your cloud (erroring out) for no reason. 50GB of cloud storage is a bit not ideal because one of my favourite ways to use debrid is to either stream really large high quality movies/tv that I don't want to download to my Plex, or to idle download large torrent files that have low seeds so that when they complete I can download them to my system at my max internet speed. A lot of the time those movies and or files are over 50GB which just won't work. Obviously it's a different situation for already cached stuff though because that doesn't count to your cloud.

The 30GB per month limit for premium links is also very limiting, and the selection of premium providers on offcloud doesn't compare with real debrid or alldebrid. But most people won't ever use this anyway.

I have not successfully been able to use the Usenet feature even on recent nzbs, their backbone just doesn't have all the parts every time I have tested it. Again most people probably won't use this anyway.

With all this being said, I have gotten a lot of use out of it, and I think people that evaluate the above information, are prepared to use an American VPN or mostly desktop device, and deal with hiccups, add stuff that isn't already cached reasonably ahead of time, it's a deal worth considering. I don't think 98% of people are that person, and that's okay. RD will be a leagues better, no hiccups experience. There's no point dropping ~$60 on a lifetime service that you won't use or at least get $60 worth out of.

          • @Castcore:

or to idle download large torrent files that have low seeds so that when they complete I can download them to my system at my max internet speed.

Do you need additional software for that or it is a "standard feature"?
            Haven't subscribed yet to see.

            • +1

@SickDmith: Nah you can just download straight from the web, or pull from the API.
The api is pretty limited but works, but also remember that the cloud limit is 50GB so you can only ever add a file of maximum 50GB. Also keep in mind that sometimes it just wont work even if you know the torrent file has seeds.

  • Deal was pretty popular the last time it was posted here. Caches definitely aren't as widespread as RD. I've been able to find random old slasher flicks in foreign languages cached on RD.

Always happy with more competition though.

  • +4

I got this when this deal was posted.
IMO, wasted $ on offcloud and should've just put the ~$60 towards RD.
In my experience offcloud had less available content and buffers quite a bit at 1080p and up. RD has been reliable and stable with all including 4K content.
Also, worth checking out comments in that post for others experience and tips on setting up offcloud if you do get it.

  • +1

Agree. Go with RD. Way more cached content and less issues. I got it to work on ipad and android

  • Can you download media files to device for watching later offline? Or will I need an app for that?

    • yes you can not with this shit with Real debird and streamio, once it starts playing at the bottom there is 3 dots you click and you can download it, it got up to 10mbps for me i was just trying the speed, i cancelled the download didnt wan download a 90 gb movie

      • Offcloud has issues with mobile devices.

I have a 1000/50 connection now and easily get 80MB/s on offcloud downloads. I have seen it max my 120 MB/s before but mostly 80. Real debrid is better though obviously.

To answer op, just download through the website once it's in your cloud, it's very easy.

For people with buffering issues, try an American VPN. Also compare it to Stremio on windows, 0 issues on windows. Not ideal but if you've already paid for it, may as well use the service where you can.

        • its a good option to have but i personally dont see the need to download anything specially in that size lol its there when you need it, unless you are trying to compile a doomsday playlist

        • There’s no need for a VPN when using real Debrid or Off Cloud

    • Yes easily, but you'll need to set a storage location, ideally a cloud based one.
OffCloud will d/l to that location, and you watch or d/l the file from there. Requires a little bit of configuring, but once set up, is pretty straightforward.

Of course, be aware that most, if not all storage providers scan incoming files and may take action.
For example, Degoo will drop your account for anything vaguely movie like, whereas Google typically won't care unless it is obvious that the media is either being shared with others or outright illegal.

  • +1

Couldn't get OffCloud to consistently work well with Stremio/Torrentio. However, it works very well if downloading files directly from the site, especially if it's already cached.

  • Thanks but will stay with premiumize

    • what makes it better than real-debird?

  • So i use stremio on my google tv so how does offcloud play apart in this? Never heard of it before so being genuine about the ask.

    • If you use real debrid with stramio, this one will replace that. If you don’t use rd, then this is not for you.

      • Ive never real debrid either, i think i will need to look into this.

        • RD, Offcloud or Premiumize will give you cached results to stream rather than streaming from peers/torrenting

  • Thinking of using stremio and RD, whats the best guide to follow?

Do I need to set up stremio and RD on my PC, and can I just log into stremio on my samsung TV. Or do I need to set it up RD etc. on each device?

  • +1

I bought this last time, regretted it , ended up buying real debrid in the end.

    • Try it with an American VPN, Offcloud has issues with mobile devices. Also try it on a PC,I get zero issues on windows for a file that won't even load on my phone.

  • Question, how do I know if a content I am streaming has a directlink? - Nevermind, OP has answered this.

  • Can the Stremio addon handle both RD and offcloud together?

    • +4

Yes. But if u have RD. No need for OC

  • +1

I have this, I 100% need to use an american VPN to get it working at all. And the way they whitelist ip's makes it annoying. It has some cool features that I might use but haven't tested much like Usenet access and stuff.

    • Usenet sucks on offcloud, as most of my files failed. I ended up buying a easynews account.

  • +1

Unless you're watching mainly only new content, and normal 1080p files (no remux, no 4k etc), I would put the money towards realdebrid

  • +1

Debrid services (invented by the French) also support some file lockers. Occasionally I will subscribe to All Debrid for 3 Euros a month to catch up on backlogs. Filelockers in free mode are usually incredibly annoying (slow downloads, 3 hour wait between downloads, captchas).

That said, most people are only interested in "stealing" films and TV, and have no interest in ebooks, comics, fonts, applications, image collections and so on.

    • Hmmm can I only subscribe for torrenting and pay less. I only use real debrid with torrentio

  • Thanks OP ive been a long time user and always miss out of the lifetime deals, just recently added an extra year too. But this will be better in the long run
