  • I asked a similar question on a different deal, but currently have an ISP issued router. About to upgrade to nbn fttp (was fttn) and want to maximise my coverage with my (hopefully) increased speed.

I may need a 2nd point but what’s better this or just one beast router.

I don’t know enough personally to make my own decisions lol

    • I would say it depends on your usage and how many devices.

I tried the Nest system when I switched to FTTP since it could act as a router directly connected.
It worked "ok" but I ended upgrading to a beast router instead because it just wasn't the best experience with multiple devices/streaming happening.

      • 2 adults and 2 teenagers. I have heaps of devices.

I've got the triple pack from yrs ago, it's been great for myself with two adults & multiple devices & the odd friend/family connected when visiting. I have the base unit in the middle of the house in the spare room/office, 1 point in the garage (front of house) & the remaining point in the main bathroom (rear of the house). This setup gives me great coverage in the front & back yards of the property. I can even trigger my WiFi power points in the tin shed with it locked up with this setup. I've had the odd drop out of one point twice over this time, but nothing serious for novice like myself.

any recommendations on a beast router that has good coverage?

As with Adinico, I got this and have used it over two premises now (onto my second year). I got it for vertical coverage - double storey in one instance, and now in a single storey - but with front/back of the house coverage.

Been happy with it, speeds, coverage and setup was easy. Google Home setup seems to remember everything so was easy to transport to a new place and set it up easily.

Below user mentions having 'no internet', but I can attest that this hasn't happened to me at all (unless you count last week's freakish storms).

But 2 x wifi 7 Xiaomi mesh is $169 from AliExpress , why this?

    • Link please

      why this?

      Because it’s not Xiaomi.

      • how bad is xiaomi , cant be worse than tenda ….

        • Setting the bar very low there.

A device that is facing the internet and protecting your entire network isn’t something I would cheap out on.

  • I bought TP-Link deco series rather than this cause coverage was bit bigger with multiple devices and home automation system

    • what home automation? I can only think of power point timer that is useful

I brought these, a set of three, the internet never worked - the base connected, but the nodes never connected to base. I spent like a day or two with support, and they were clueless - the only option was to reset and retest. There is no interface or anything that can be checked - possibly you need to be lucky to get them working. Ended up returning back to JB Hifi.

  • Limited to wifi 5 but suitable for most on a budget.
Personally i would invest in a triple pack product with Ethernet backhaul plus wifi6/6e.

  • This is a great price. Works very well for my place.

  • These were average when they were released 7 years ago.

TP-Link Deco E4 AC1200 Whole-Home Mesh Wi-Fi System (2-Pack) $92.85 Delivered @ Amazon AU is much better value (even if I say so myself.)

  • Very good price. I used (1 router 1 point) in my double storey house, and now using in single storey 5 bedroom house, has full coverage and not significant drop on bandwidth from the access point. Setup might be bit tricky for the first time. You will need to reset the router if you change your ISP, as it doesn't allow you to change the PPPoE username and password. But otherwise works perfectly. I am working from home and have 100mbps connections.
