Inexpensive Wi-Fi 5 mesh.
Note: Only has 100Mbps Ethernet ports.
3 pack is $126.65 (has been a bit cheaper before.)
does wax206 mesh? or just extend?
I think with OpenWRT it supports WDS. I haven't used it though. Single device coverage is more than enough for me.
That doesn't compete in the same space.
That's just an AP, and it's $150+$13 delivery - 75% more expensive.
Edit: Centre Com have it for 'only' %57 more.
you don't need any other router with WAX, I have both WAX206 (~$110-120 but more coverage) & WAX202 ($90-100), both are usually go on sale around the same price. Both supports OpenWRT.
May be an option for technically minded people who are prepared to pay more (btw, got a link to those prices?)
Still - apples & oranges.
but a "mesh system" and a plain "access point" are for 2 different things - not sure why you comparing an AP to a mesh system
Yeah, filters for mesh systems are very expensive… I'd get third party filters. They are ultra hard to find for some reason though.
I'm not alone on that.
Get the Antiviral filter for the 5G
You know they were playing on your joke right?
Cant tell if you're joking or not
Maybe because the joke was a bit mesh…?
Does Mesh systems work with Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2?
Decos can be turned to AP mode if connected to a router. In most cases the router Wi-Fi should then be disabled.
Yes I did that for my grandparents. I disabled the wifi on the Telstra router and connected the first Deco via cable to the Telstra router. Then the other 2 Deco connect wirelessly.
What’s the go to tp-link for Ethernet backhaul?
Our Deco M5s have been great. But if we are adding a new mesh point I might as go wifi 6!
Thanks team
What do you mean?
Any Deco can be added on eg. X20.
Sorry I mean what is the best bang for buck in wifi 6? I’m guessing the x20
It was when I expanded my M5 mesh, but that was a while ago.
@McFly: Any issues connecting m5 and x20 via Ethernet backhaul?
@miasommers: Nope. Mix and match any Deco over WiFi or Ethernet however you like. It just works.
@McFly: @McFly hi question please when we mix and match. Example I have the E4 (100mbps port) connected to the NBN box. Later if I buy s4 with 1gb port and put this on bedroom can I get 1gb speed from this s4? How about the wifi speed will I get the same speed with mixing E4 and s4 units?
@CyberMurning: You'll get 1Gbps for devices wired to the S4, but the question becomes how is the S4 connected to the E4? If it's by Ethernet straight to the E4 then it doesn't make any difference that the S4 is 1Gbps, it will only ever be a 100Mbps max network. If it's connected by WiFi then maybe it will get more than that - you'd need to test it out. But that would only matter for transfers within your network (ie. not the Internet.)
You'd probably want to make the S4 the router/primary Deco and put the E4 in the bedroom, but the only benefit for Internet speed would be if you have a >100Mbps connection, which I'm guessing you don't.
Looks like everything except for the Ethernet speeds are the same on these two devices (maybe the CPUs are different but I can't see that making a difference in this case.)
@McFly: Ah I see. So the 100mbps vs 1gb is just if we need to use cable ethernet. Hmm I don't think I will need to plug cable. Everything is wireless
how about 2 xiaomi wifi 7 BE3600 ? anyone tried?
Any deals for Deco M5 ?
get mercury wifi6 halo mesh, a better price with the same TP-link hardware…
Feel free to post a a cheaper Mercusys WiFi 6 mesh.
Here's the last one: Mercusys Halo H80X AX3000 Whole Home Mesh Wi-Fi 6 System (2-Pack, UK Stock) $169.52 Delivered @ Amazon UK via AU
just to make it clear, i meant for the same wifi 6, mercusys has a better price… not to make a price comparison of AC and AX… just a few bucks more, why not get wifi 6?
https://www.amazon.com.au/Mercusys-Dual-Band-Seamless-Halo-H…
True, but the difference is just AC1200 vs AX1500 - these are both low end devices.
Got a pair of x50's recently and they've been great. Simple to setup and they "just work". Have just recently learnt that you can add any of the other deco models to the mesh and they auto-assimilate.
you can get a WAX206 for similar price, good coverage with WIFI6
