This has been very popular previously and now it's back on sale for those after a high performance, open source router with plenty of features. It's not ATL but still a significant discount for those that missed out before. Maybe there's a code floating around?

Like others from this brand it natively supports OpenWRT firmware, allowing full access to OpenWRT’s features and add-ons. It offers fast VPN integration with WireGuard and OpenVPN, along with built-in AdGuard Home for network wide ad blocking. The hardware is powerful and frequently receives firmware updates.

It features two 2.5G network ports with both being able to be used as WAN ports for a secondary connection, failover etc, 4 gigabit LAN ports, 4x4 WiFi 2.4GHz speeds up to 1148Mbps and 5GHz up to 4804Mbps, USB 3.0 port, 4 antennas and a multi plug charger.

  • good router

    • Yes very good, fantastic for the price.

      • It has held this price for a long time now sadly

        • It got down to $186 a few weeks ago.

  • Can 2.5G ports use as LAN port ?

    • Yes, well one can and the other is the port from the NBN router.

    • Yes, if you're comfortable in command line, you can remap both 2.5 ports.

    • Can be easily set via the gl inet gui and both can be WAN (for dual connectivity) or LAN for repeater mode.

    USB tethering supported?

    • Can confirm, tethered my phone just the other day when there was an nbn outage.

    • Yes using it with a samsung phone to consume 5g from it 24/7 for a few months now, working great

    • 4 port hubs work well too.

    • Yes, and I believe also 4G/5G USB adapters.

It can also do WAN bonding, so getting the speed of two internet sources, e.g. WAN in plus USB Tethering.

Can also be configured as failover only, so it will switch to the other source if the first goes down.

Waiting for the official release of Flint 3

Same here. Waiting for wifi 7.

I thought about this too but decided since the flint 2 firmware took a while to iron out the kinks the flint 3 would likely be the same especially since it uses an intel processor now. That and the likely saving of 50% and no care for wifi 7 yet swayed me to get the 2.

      • So WAS I… but finally pulling the trigger and then will use this in 802.11s when 7 comes out.

    • Beta test unit arriving today :)

      • For the Flint 3… lucky I buy all their products and never gotten approved for the beta testing…

    • I was, but im still not happy with closed source import routers. Decided to stick with the 2 for openwrt support.

  • Can anyone recommend either the flint 2 or TP-Link BE3600 which i believe has WiFi 7?

    • Some thoughts and questions…

Do you have other devices that use WiFi 7?

Do you have super fast internet? WiFi 6 is not going to limit your speed, especially on a device like the Flint 2, which will by far exceed most home internet speeds as the Flint 2 will already do .

Do you know most phones will never really use the highest speeds of WiFi to save battery, doing only 2x2 WiFi, so even less chance of maxing out speed. The Flint 2 has 2 WiFi radios, each 4x4, so 4 times that.

Some rough calculations (which might be wrong, but might give you an idea)
The Flint 2 does 4x4 streams on each WiFi channel. 2.4GHz speeds up to 1148Mbps and 5GHz up to 4804Mbps. The Vimeo site says you need at least 25Mbps for good 4K UHD streaming, some other sites say 36Mbps, but let's say 40Mbps to be safe. So in theory, Flint 2 WiFi could handle multiple WiFi UHD streams at a time, potentially 20+ on 2.4GHz or 100+ on 5GHz. That is all theoretical speeds and probably will be affected by various other factors in the real world, but if you have an internal streaming server doing UHD (like Jellyfin), you will unlikely saturate WiFi with a Flint 2.

Flint 3 is just around the corner, I'm going to hold off and hope that its release puts the squeeze on Flint 2 prices even more.

  • Bit the bullet and ordered one. Thanks for the heads up :)

Eero 6+ just doesnt give me enough in terms of customisation. I also want a way to allow for better remote access to my PC and PS5 outside of home.

For those that are interested SQM QOS works really well on the Flint 2 to eliminate Buffer Bloat . Just make sure you disable "Network Acceleration"
