My 12 year old 30m Hoselink hose reel finally decided to pack it in, so on my Google search for a replacement I found these idenitcal 20m reels for a bargain. I purchased 2 x 20m reels ($298) for a little more than 1 x 30m Hoselink reel ($275). I now can position one on each side of the house. I simply swapped out the standard fittings with my existing Hoselink fittings and cut the hose off the old reel to use as a hose extension. The reel casing is exactly the same as Hoselink and fits my existing wall mount.

They definitely know
Thankfully I was able to purchase in store, but yes they made me have to drive there!
I ended up getting one of these aldi hose reels and the quality does not really seem that great. You're getting what you pay for here.
I returned my ALDI one it was absolute rubbish and so flimsy
That was slightly funny, but you still deserve the downvotes :p
One of his best posts tho, sadly.
From the image and my first thought, exactly looks like a meter.
Bargain if you only need 8m
Never did I think I would see the day that I'm upvoting a JV comment
How is this comparable to Holman or other brands at Bunnings?
It's around similar and some cheaper.I'm not familiar with this item or the quality but I need one for my garden.
Thanks
would also like to know but i suspect anything considered cheap (say up to $100) is probably going to need replacing pretty quick…
It's the exact same design as my previous Hoselink reel, which lasted 12 years. This is black vs my previous white Hoselink reel which was exposed to all the elements.
Gardena seem to be the best for life span as I have one and few other members on other deals have stated that too. Also @Wiadro mentioned below in this deal that these Karcher ones are made by Gardena
For some reasons Gardena doesn't have as great reviews as Hoselink. I am not sure if it makes any difference but I went for Hoselink because of that.
Gardena has a 5 year warranty. After wasting money on most other i now have 3 gardenas. Photograph and email the receipt to yourself. Happily I can see them lasting longer than 5 years easily.
All were bought from bunnings on clearance so at a very good price.Got mine on clearance too and it’s been reliable. I agree the bunnings receipts fade so keep a digital copy or send the receipt via sms at checkout or order online with your bunnings account
I agree with the Gardena being high quality. I've been on the lookout for a deal for a while.
Damn you getting them on clearance! I've been wishfully checking out the 30m version every time I'm at the store but haven't seen one on clearance yet :(
Nice that it comes in a subtle black and yellow colour scheme too
Yeah not ideal, but one can always choose to buy a Hoselink reel cover, which I may do https://www.hoselink.com.au/products/hose-reel-cover-natural…. I was considering one of these anyway, even if I bought the Hoselink reel.
Have you tested that the cover will fit? From the pictures they look identical except only for the logo cover, but the dimensions on the product specs are different
Hoselink H41cm x W26.5cm x D50cm
Karcher 487 x 285 x 402So am worried that the covers won't fit.
Let us know if the covers fit, thanks!
Purchased a Hoselink reel in the Boxing Day 10% off +$10 bonus for email. The wall mount is identical, as is the reel (apart from colour) down to the plastic ball fitting near the end of the hose.
But fittings, and especially internal fittings, will make all the difference.
That's gold !
Purchase 2, and you're still $1.99 away from free shipping.
if anyone can tell how the quality for these compared to other similarly priced like gardena would be great
Pretty sure it’s made by gardena
A bit confused now. Some comments above say it could be made by those who make Hoselink and now you say it's made by Gardena. Does it mean all three brands are identical to a large extent?
They probably all just buy them from the same manufacturer in china. Im sure there was a thing posted here recently linking to where all hoselinks products come from.
Edited to add I've had a 30m hoselink for 2 years and it's amazing. Still going strong woth no hint of issues. (Except from the hose nozzle itself which are known to have a list of around 2 years, but they are easy and cheap to replace).
So I got a hose reel a few months back, am I suppose to unreel it and drain it after use if I only use it like once a month? To avoid algae, spoiled water etc…
Why not just flush it every now and then.
Do you drink from it.
Lets say I forget to flush it for a year, there might be sufficient growth on the inside of the hose that it ends up with permanent contamination.
Pity it's not 10m longer or I would have been all over this.
I guess you would have been home & hosed.
100%
That was a reel good one.
I would have been happy with 25m … 20 is just that little bit too short.
I bought Holman and a cheaper one from Bunnings. Holman died just out of warranty the other one is still going. Name has worn or fallen off. Purchased a $65 one from Repco to replace the Holman and it's done about 6 yrs. I think mechanism probably similar in all of them.
found these idenitcal 20m reels for a bargain
TIL $149 is a bargain for a reel hose.
I think 35% off RRP should be considered a bargain, regardless of what it is and what it costs.
Will it last Perth #1 heat 🔥😜
Heat doesn't really matter, it's uv that seems to kill stuff. If you can mount it in the shade it'll last longer.
Just spray 303 on it every year
Just grab a cover for it if sitting in the sun most of the day.
https://www.hoselink.com.au/products/hose-reel-cover-natural…
I see this mob advertising a lot and they sell the 20m reel with installation + a bonus spray gun for $169.
https://www.aussiehoses.com.au/
Anyone has any experience with this?Got a 30m from Aussie hoses recently. Couldn't be happier, supplied and installed for $249. Called on a Monday and the following day had it installed. You can detach it if you don't want it sitting in the hot baking sun for a considerable amount of time. Comes with a 2 year warranty.
Thank you.
30m $269 delivered got me tempted
Fyi if you are in the delivery area. You get a bonus 25m for the price of 20m.
I got mine installed today 25m for $169 fully installed. Also with the multi mode spray nozzle.
While they were there I asked them to swap the tap for the quarter turn for $129@maverickjohn: oh nice, how you finding it so far? I am thinking to get two.
Do you need to mention anything to get this deal?
@Jimothy Wongingtons: Call their number and let them know of an Ad you found.
They will write up an email to inform you of the deal you will be getting.
Also the hose is really good so far, they are very confident in it lasting over 10 years. They said the uv treatment is pretty solid. Has a 10 star kink resistance etc. The auto reel back is very powerful and fast, just be careful with kids etc.
For the price its pretty unbeatable. Also note its a free installation, its not like they con you with an install fee… very interesting that the free installation gets the bonus 5m when the online delivery gets the standard@maverickjohn: maybe just the chance to get the boys around and get foot in door to upsell is worth the small discount
eg they also do a range of clotheslines (which actually i WOULD be interested in too!)
and now that you mentioned it , i WOULD also be interested in an upgrade to quarter turn tap..at least two of them!@Jimothy Wongingtons: Yep they told me about the clothes line, i installed that one myself, but he did say if i wanted to change the clothesline that they use Hills with lifetime warranty.
The quarter tap on the website is $149, he gave it to me for $129@Jimothy Wongingtons: If you want to save a bit of quid. Changing taps is literally like a 5 minute DIY job and those taps are pretty cheap.
1. Turn off water at meter.
2. Open tap to run out water
3. Grab wrench and unscrew old tap.
4. Screw new tap on (adding plumbers tape).
5. Turn on water at meter.
6. Check for leaking.@NigelTufnel: Awesome thanks! Might go that way.
Reel for 169 25m delivered I think was not too shabby still though
@NigelTufnel: Lol I probably should have gone that route as well
@maverickjohn: Thanks for the tip.
Can confirm this is still the case with the 25m hoses for $169
I got 2 of these recently. Can't complain at all
Thanks, just booked this in, saw a Facebook ad that has a free upgrade to the 25m model for $169 installed.
Pretty good deal! Could get 2 of these for just $69 more than the 30m price ($269) installed
How about Karcher's warranty for 20m hose reel?
Can convert to high pressure hose reel?
Could they possibly have picked worse colours for this? Looks like a stanley tape measure. Who would want that hanging off their house :(
Are you jv?
Agreed, but I reckon I’ll buy a Hoselink cover for it given mine are out in the elements all the time. I was looking to buy a cover anyway.
what is the god damn shipping
Didn't see an option for God damn shipping but under 299 was flat 16.95 as far as I could see in the basket.
Do you need a wall to fix this to? Or is there a way to stick this into the ground?
I've put a 100*80 treated pine post in the ground to attach one of my hoselinks to. Been working fine so far. Just make sure you go down deep enough to hold the post in place with the weight of the reel.
Did you pour cement in? I'm trying to find a solution since the mounting post is sold out.
Nope, just rammed earth (concrete is not ideal for wooden posts as the wood expends/contracts leaving potential pockets between the concrete and wood). Just made sure the hole was nice and deep. ~2/3 underground 1/3 above.
@NigelTufnel: Good point, thanks for that! Do you think I can use something like this and drill a hole for the insert? https://www.bunnings.com.au/75mm-1-8m-pole-h4-treated-pine-r… or even the 100mm one. The insert diameter measured about 22mm.
@drilly: Possibly…? I just used a square (or rectangular) post and screwed the mounting bracket to the side.
Retractable Hose Reel Mounting Post https://www.hoselink.com.au/products/retractable-hose-reel-p…
I installed mine with a sun shade.
But not like a roof, I fixed it to one side of the reel and basically when done using it, you face the covered side to the sun.
You can get creative and paint it the colour of the brick/render to blend it more with the house.Did it cheap using core flute
For once I'm glad I didn't make free shipping cause otherwise I would have bought 2
Takes only less than a minute to do it manually.
This is considered one of the longer term investment than a car, a degree, a solar, or even a marriage lol
Does anyone know how long the warranty is? I can't find it on the site. Tossing between this and the Gardena despite the latter being shorter but the advantage is it has 5 years warranty.
I stopped procrastinating and bought a couple of Gardena reels on the weekend. The 5 year warranty did it for me.
Went for the Gardena as well. Warranty plus add the fact that it doesn't look like a giant tape measure.
Hoselink 30m with bigger internal diameter hose, good quality 3-4 yrs old now.
Seems it's back to $229?
Price has gone back to $229
Shame
"purchased 2 x 20m reels ($298)"
"FREE shipping over $299."
Can you believe this? Now, I'm a cynical guy but this HAS to be a set up.
