Is this what they call an 'early' adapter?

  • Only a deal if you have a tesla UMC charger. Else get this

Hi hopper, appreciate your comment, we do offer similar product as well at a lower cost here https://inchargex.com.au/products/portable-ev-charger-32a-5p…

Upvoted as someone negged you which is poor form :|

        • Appreciate you eddyah 🙏

      • What is the warranty on this? Doesn't seem to mention it on the page. Also, does it have an integrated RCD, like the EVSE one?

    • Depends if you want a charger that has removable tails, or you want only 5pin 32a. That charger won't work on a regular powerpoint for example, so I wouldn't blanket recommend it.

  • Awesome, now all I need is an Ozbargain post for a cheap Tesla 👀

  • I assume the only place you can get a tesla umc is direct from tesla?

    • They come up on Ebay sometimes.

    • I picked up one brand new off facebook marketplace for $450 last week, some people are ordering them with the equivalent of Tesla rewards points and then selling them.
It sucks that they're 180 quid from Tesla UK.

  • Hi there, I am picking my model 3 in 2 weeks. I realised that they have stopped giving home chargers with the car. What would you suggest so that I can charge it at home?

    • Tesla Wall Connector is good. You will need an electrician (any, no speciality required) to install it.

There are other options, but the Tesla Wall Connector has the 'open flap' button which makes it a lot more convenient. You could get by with the UMC if you don't drive much too.

The open flap button is so overrated when you can just press on the charging flap to open it anyway.

I’d suggest getting some sort of mobile connector by default. You don’t need an electrician and can take it with you and charge anywhere you can access a power socket. It will be slower like 20+ hours to get back to 100% depending on your state of charge. The Tesla UMC is great but there are much cheaper options.

But everyone is different. Some have garages, other drive great distances everyday and want a fast charge.

        • I think it's overrated to and people often say "it's great you can open the charger" (like you say just press the damn flap).

What's actually useful is that you can unlock the charger from the button if you have your phone on you which is very handy (rather than going into the car or into the app to unlock it).

Again most people point out opening it which is really dumb.

Sorry I was just giving the button a name - the real benefit of it is to stop charging and unlock the port without messing with the app or the screen in the car.

I agree with getting a mobile connector regardless. Not only is having one in the boot nice for piece of mind, it allows destination charging when on holiday (like at an airbnb or caravan park).

    • Just get a 32A outlet installed outside if you don't already have one. Speak to an electrician because the plugs you will use depend on whether you have single, dual or three phase power, as I understand it.

I have a model y and it charges from 3% to 100% in the 5 hour charging window it has overnight.

  • How common is 3 pin outlet?

Should I just get the 5 pin or the 5 pin and 3 to 5 pin adaptor?

    • +3

5 pin is much more common.

  • I purchased the 32a 5pin to umc tail over a year ago from these guys. Works well but would suggest buying one longer than the standard length (40cm), the tail is a bit too short.

    • $10 delivery fee for me though

  • Hi OP, I'm in the market for a Gen 1 UMC tail to 3 phase 32A connector for 11kW charging. Can you hook me up?

    • Hi IXXI, thanks for contacting us we currently don't have the adapter for the Gen 1 UMC unfortunately, we do have 22kW portable charger that can do 11kW for Tesla and it will be back instock in the next 2 weeks if that would help, product is here https://inchargex.com.au/products/inchargex-ultra-power-22kw…

  • Hi OP

Can you make a deal for the 5 pin tail to type 2 portable charger.

    https://inchargex.com.au/products/portable-ev-charger-32a-5p…

    Thanks

    • Hi susu abis, we will be running a store wide discount event during the Easter period, more info will be sent out close to the event, hope this helps and feel free to sign up with our newsletter to get updates.

  • Hi OP,
are you guys doing anything on 20amp 5 pin tesla tails?

    • Hi Anestitos, we currently dont make the 20amp 5 pin Tesla tail for the UMC Gen 2 due to low market demand. If possible, we do recommend customer to upgrade their socket to 5 pin 32A for more compatibility so you can use both at home and take it with you when you go on trips as well. Hope this helps.

  • So I have a provisioning of 32 amp, 3 phase and own a UMC. Which pin would be suitable to connect with the UMC?

    • Hi Alikay, if you have 3 phase 5 pin 32A socket then simply connect all the 5 pins in the socket to make it 3 phases. When yoy plug the UMC 32A Adapter in it will simply use one phase. The pin on our adapters are L1, Neutral and Earth.

  • Is this Type 2 to Type 2 better than the MENNEKES one from Tesla store?
