They asked for 2 months of payslips on the Virgin Flyer card when I applied and got approved last week

    • I used the business card and no questions… odd

    • +1

      Note to self :

      1) Proof of salary : 2 Payslip (not older than 60 days)
      2) Proof of employment : (payslip , contract, letter of employment

  • Has anyone paid their BAS using the American Express Velocity Business Card? Wondering if that is included as the $5k spend. Couldn’t find anything saying that it isn’t included in their t&c’s for the offer so it’s looking hopeful

    • +3

I purchase the Coles prepaid digital MasterCard and use it to pay to ATO.

      • So you can buy a whole bunch of those Coles digital Mastercards with a credit card?

      • That makes limited financial sense at 2.8% fee ($7 fee per $250 card).

      • Do the ATO let you add multiple payment cards or do you pay the total down over multiple transactions?

        • +1

It's one card per transaction, But hardly takes 10 mins to do 10*$250 transactions.

  • Can velocity points be used for international travel? Or just domestic? Unsure of how big virgin is outside of Australia

    • +1

You can use it for International travel. Virgin partners with United, Singapore Airlines, Qatar, Etihad and many more where you can book using Velocity points.

      • Thanks and do you know if 100000 Qantas points is more valuable than 100000 virgin?

        • My opinion is "No". Other people may disagree. Depends on if you're looking to use points domestically or internationally.

          • @bk1973: I agree. It also seems like Qantas points are more plentiful with CC sign-ups compared to Velocity.

            • @Dr PhilGood: Velocity is more available IMO. Especially with the 2x30k sign up bonuses a year and the 2x transfer bonuses a year.

        • People say this, but when flying to North America or the Middle East, Qantas required less points for their flights than Velocity did

        • It depends where you want to go and in what class.

The T&Cs say you have to get an confirmation email of the benefit you chose before applying for a card - has anyone gotten that yet?

    • +1

I applied last night and haven't got the email yet :(

      • +2

Same boat, haven't received and don't want to apply for the card before getting it.

        • +1

Spot on as it says so in Ts and C's. Hopefully not too long before email comes thru

    • +2

I think this could potentially catch a lot of people, myself included. Has anyone received a confirmation email? It seems unreasonable that we have to wait for a confirmation email since the website pushes you forward to apply for a card after you have selected between the 30k points or the status credits.

      • +2

At the same time, the FAQs seems to imply you can choose the benefit after signing up for a card.

If you’ve submitted an application for a Velocity Points Earning credit card within the offer period (between 12 February 2024 and 31 March 2024), you will still be able to submit an exclusive benefit selection here until 11.59pm AEST on 31 March 2024.

Soooo maybe it's fine? As long as the application was made within that period.

I'll wait for the email myself to be extra sure though.

        • +1

          Super quick reply from you.

Yeah, that makes it even less clear. What you quoted suggests that we can select the 'exclusive benefit' after having applied for a card, which a contradiction to the 'b' clause in the T&Cs.

    • Just selected the benefit but haven't received confirmation email yet.

    • I received the email today at 1:27pm AEDT

      • Just received the email too, though I applied for the card as soon as I had selected the 30k bonus points. From the other comments, it seems like applying for the card before receiving the confirmation is not an issue.

        • Also the t&c says “successfully apply for any card featured on the Velocity Points Earning Credit Card page”

Would you know if you have to click through the links on the velocity page or you can just apply by directly going to the banks page?

I did the latter and worried if it’s an affiliate link I should’ve clicked on

      • I also just got it. I had already applied and got approved for a card though, so we shall see. I was confident enough based off another comment here saying they already received their benefit.

        • Received email confirmation but already had confirmation selection stuck on repeated login. Very sneaky if intention of T&C's were to catch people out.

  • I am looking for best credit card with bonus points and no international transaction fees, any suggestion?

    • If you are not a big spender (points capped at 3k per month) then coles rewards mastercard.

    • Bankwest or Commbank at the moment.

  • +3

I applied on saturday but didn't proceed to supplying the required documents. I wonder if I'll get the 30k bonus points if I proceed to provide the required documents today and it's approved in the next few days?

  • I come out of the 12 months for Westpac in the middle of March.

    Perfect timing.

  • I'm guessing it won't stack with the additional 20k on the American Express Velocity Platinum Card?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/830485

    • It would - that 20k is offered by Amex, this 30k is offered by Velocity. Total will be 150k.

      • U have to log in Virgin to get 30k bonus points.

        The link directs to
        “Receive 100,000 bonus Points1 + choose 30,000 bonus Points or 200 Status Credits by 31 March 2024* ”

        • +1

Yes, you log in to activate the offer, but then you can go apply for whatever card you like from that list and get their bonus.

          • @Ozymandias: Just checking does this work? Ie I activate with virgin the 30k then go separately through Amex for the 120k it works?

            • +1

@dmel02: I haven't personally tried it, but the wording strongly suggests that's the case. Nothing stipulates you have to go through the Velocity website to apply (and you literally can't anyway, they're hosted on separate sites) so it'll be based on matching your Velocity number to the one on your credit card.

    • Hard to say if it will work or not. Depends on if you really need to go from the "Go to offer" link or not. Could have something in the URL that's needed to get the 30K velocity.

      • I can't see how that would be the case - some of the cards do have a tracking string in their URL, but some like the BOQ cards don't. Without guaranteeing it to anyone, I'd be 95% confident of it being just fine.

  • Virgin cards = Citi but now Citi is owned by NAB so hopefully don't get the "declined for no reason" like last year……

    • Someone else said it was BOQ now??

      • Yes Virgin Money is owned by BOQ but Citi/NAB are who issues Virgin and BOQ's credit cards.

    • I tried to apply for virgin platinum last November during the previous deal but got declined for no apparent reason (maybe my credit is too high? But I don’t think so)
I’ve cancelled one of my credit card with only 3k credit, and still left with my main 15k black card. Before my black card is due for a renew, I would like to get a new one before i have to pay the annual fee. Should I give virgin another try hmmm

  • +1

I already got approved for the Virgin Flyer card last week and the card is on the way, hoping I can call up to still get the extra 30,000 points offer applied

    • +1

I'm in the same boat, how did your call go?

      • I can't get the extra 30,000 pts applied but I was advised I can apply for the card again to get the new offer (once I get the confirmation email for the offer).

I will cancel my original card and apply for the card again.

Annoying but at least I won't miss out on the new offer (as long as I get approved again!)

Also, each Virgin Flyer card is considered as a "new" Flyer Card account holder apparently. So i could have 2 cards in parallel, one with and one without the new offer.

        • +5

I wouldn't cancel the existing one. There is a good chance you will get it anyway. There was at least one report last time the offer was made a year ago that they still got the bonus points on an account that were created before the offer was available. I think it's more of a timing thing of when the points get applied to the account which governs if you get the bonus points or not.

    • +1

I would be inetersted to know too

    • +1

Which number did you call? I’m in the exact same boat, waiting for my Virgin Flyer card to arrive. I spoke to Velocity and they seemed to think the offer would apply to my card even though I was approved a week ago…

      • I called 13 18 75 and followed prompts for credit cards

        • +1

That’s weird, I called the same number and they told me it should be fine.

          • @Vanderdurgen: @Vanderdurgen, I send a written enquiry to Velocity last week and the reply received today said I wouldn't be eligible for the extra 30,000 points, since I applied prior to the offer being released, despite (at that time) not having received the card yet, and it was still within 7 days of my application, which I had seen others mentioning in other threads that there was greater flexibility when it was within 7 days.

Am hopeful I would have the same situation as you though!

    • +4

You should be fine. FYI I applied for the Virgin Flyer card in December in conjunction with the previous 30k new card promotion campaign. In January, my first statement bill I received 30k (spend criteria) + 30k (new card promotion campaign). Just now my 2nd statement bill triggered, I received 30k (spend criteria) and 200SC (my chosen benefit) for this latest campaign.

      • So you already got the 200 SC? I'm guessing you didn't receive the email that's mentioned in the T&C's? If so, that's good news and means it's safe for everyone else to do.

        • I did not receive a confirmation email. I've run out of cards to apply for so thought it wouldn't hurt testing if the 2nd statement triggered the reward - and it did!

      • I got 30k+30k in January from the last new card promotion like you.

Still waiting for the 2nd statement for that one. Since I've opted for 30k bonus points on this latest new promotion, I'll get another 30k bonus with the 2nd statement?!

        • Yes you should!

          • @ficklefortune: Fingers crossed!

I wonder if I cancel afterwards and reapply before March 31 will I get the 30k bonus again?

      • +1

Got my 2nd virgin flyer statement, confirmed received another 30k velocity bonus on top of the 30k card bonus in this 2nd statement haha
In total received 120k points in 2 months!

        • Did you opt in to just this round of bonus, or could the 2 lots of 30k bonus points be from 2 different offers possibly?

          • +2

@firestint: I opt in the previous one in December, then received the bonus during my first statement in January.
Then opted in for this new promotion then got the bonus for my second statement in February

        • Same thing for me. After reading here that Virgin likely aren't able to track when you signed up, I thought I'd try my luck.

  • Whats the minimum timeframe people wait to churn between citi or nab branded credit cards

    • 12 months

  • +2

So the pick of the lot for churners appears to be the Westpac Altitude Platinum - 100K VFF for $174 total card fee (assuming not a westpac customer)?

    • This is what I'm looking at as already have Virgin and Amex cards, although the points earn rate is pretty sad.

    • You have to get Velocity version of the card. $295 card fee plus $75 velocity program fee.

      • Does anyone know if the $150 off card fee for Westpac customers work if you just sign up to a free transaction account with Westpac?

        • Yes it works. Once you have an account then you can access the app and the offer is in there.

          • @nightelves: So what is the total card fee for Platinum after program fee and discounts?

          • @nightelves: I created a life and choice acocunt, subscribed to the rewards and offers program under preferences, but don't have this $150 off offer? Any tips?

    • +4

so I applied for the above card took about five minutes for the application and approved straightaway. They then sent an information pack via email and I could set up a digital card on my phone immediately whilst waiting for the physical card to arrive in several days and I’ve already started to spend on this card.

    • +1

Virgin money is the pick of the lot.

  • for new card holder? or anyone

  • would it be an issue if already holding a Savings account with Virgin? since this is for new customers.

    • No. This is about credit card

  • got asked to upload documents then got the rejection email

    • which credit card did you apply for ?

      • flyer card I think the one giving 60k points with 1.5k spent for first two each month

  • can you get the bonus 30K pts each time if you apply each card Virgin, AMEX and Westpac after you spent the minimum requirement?

    • Would also like to know if you can get bonus for each card or just once off.

  • Thanks OP, I've just applied for the virgin card.

  • i received my amex platinum velocity frequent flyer card mid-January, just wondering if I should select that as the card I'm applying for and hope that they add the bonus 30k points to that card, or whether I will still be able to apply for the Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card and get the extra 60k bonus points. anyone know?

  • +1

Did anyone actually receive the email confirmation on reward selection?

    • +1

      nope not yet…

    • +3

Just selected the reward but did not receive any confirmation email.

Just wondering do we need to wait for the email coming through before applying for credit card to receive the 30k bonus?

      • +1

That's what it says in the terms and conditions, I applied 36hrs ago and still nothing. Wtf.

      • +2

I just contacted Velocity customer service team via online chat and they confirmed I have selected the 30k bonus points by checking my account.

I was told to go head with applying for eligible credit cards even without receiving confirmation email as they have confirmed my selection in the system.

Also took a screenshot of the chat as an evidence just in case.

    • +1

I received the email today at 1:27pm AEDT
