Cycle through in incognito if you see only 100,000 points

    https://postimg.cc/p9mwHGk6

    • What link did you use when searching. As in the one you used in incognito mode to cycle

      • I used the same link as posted above, but the major difference was using a different laptop entirely. Kept getting the 100,000 points offer on my usual laptop and phone (also using incognito mode, but this made no difference), but no issues whatsoever with the other one.

    • +1

hmm. no luck tried cycling through as mentioned but can't seem to get the 120k points. Maybe expired?

      • +1

Yes, tried clicking the link multiple times, only see 100k points, not 120k

    • yeah, same for me unfortunately. Only see 100k points :(

    • +2

Also unable to get 120k using incognito.

I refreshed like 20 times. Is there another method?

      • Same with me - Had to use a different laptop entirely before I could see the 120,000 points. Incognito mode on my usual laptop and phone made no difference, unfortunately! :(

  • Do you reckon there is any chance I can call Amex and get the extra 20k points if I only got this card 2 weeks ago?

    • +1

Dont think so as you have signed up using a partner offer but worth a try

    • also curious

    • Highly doubt it. As in, 99.99% chance being 'no'. I say this as someone who got the card over a week ago.

    • activated mine today ffs

    • Let me know if it works
      I'm in the same boat

    • Yeah same here. Activated today.

I had just spoken to support chat on the AMEX app and shown them proof of the 120k points offer.

Unfortunately I was unable to receive the extra 20k because I have just surpassed the 7 day time frame since application request date. The person I spoke to did say that they would have matched the offer if it was within 7 days of my application being submitted.

So for those who have submitted their application within 7 days, it is apparently possible to get the extra 20k points.

      • Damn - I'm out of the 7-day period.
Thanks for calling & checking though!

      • How did you show proof? Was it the screenshot attached?

        • They sent me a link through the chat where I was able to take a screenshot/photo of the deal. Initially they asked me to show the link, but the support person could only see 100k, so I had to show them proof that I do see the 120k deal.

          • @Steb: cheers Steb
I got this message from their online chat so fingers crossed:

I see your account Opened 05-Feb-2024 , marketing offers are subject to change time to time, but as within 7 days, i am raising request to the concern team to check if they can match current offers for you. Kindly allow 3-5 business days for the team to get back to us.

            • +1

@mouseman99: I called the amex team, they denied to match the offer, I applied on 6 Feb which is within last 7 days. :(

          • @Steb: Hi @Steb, would you be able to send me the screenshot please ? I am trying to get the extra 20k bonus points but unable to find it online.
            Email - [email protected]

            • @PRAKHI1803: If you check the post there is an updated link that shows the 120k points.

Is velocity points worth more than Qantas points? I'll be using the point to travel domestic only.

    • +1

Availability on QFF flights from Sydney is trash compared to Velocity which usually has plenty of options for availability.

      • If you got on Star Alliance Gold recently (using HSBC deal), Velocity points works much better

        • +5

Also easier to rake Velocity points and status credits with 7/11, Flybuys, Business Flyer etc.
Qantas are stingy as hell on FF

          • +2

@regenade: To be honest I raked in about 60k Qantas points just from Everyday Rewards last year… I don't think they are too bad , especially after upgrading the conversion to 2:1 for Everyday Rewards points.

            • @rekke: You spent $100k+ at Woolies?

              • @FrugalDealSeeker: No but I only really purchase from there if the bonus offers are about 3000-4000> Everyday Rewards points at checkout.

My most recent last weekend was 7,556 Everyday Rewards points for a $133 shop last weekend, for reference

I probably spent around $3000-5000 last year at Woolies, so definitely not 100k..

        • +1

Curious how the Star alliance gold status makes velocity much better?

        • How does star alliance gold help? They're not a member of the alliance are they?

          • @nigel deborah: Velocity has partnerships with some star alliance airlines and you can direct transfer points to SQ

      • What if you book way out in advance? Still bad?

        • +1

I personally find Velocity redemptions have better availability than QFF, especially if you travel internationally.

Last year in May, I managed to redeem rewards flight for Singapore - Frankfurt (SQ) and Milan - Singapore (QR) on 16 Dec 23 and 31 Dec 23 respectively.
Also, Premium Economy flight on SQ for the Singapore - Sydney route on 3 Jan 24.

I don't think I'd ever be able to redeem flights around those dates with Qantas, even on Economy.

          • @babipanggang: How far out did you book our of curiosity? That's good to know, thanks for the info!

            • +1

@Ghost47: That being said, I find that QF rewards flights availabilities are fine if you book during off-peak period. I got rewards business class flights last year on QF when I flew during the off peak months.

            • +1

@Ghost47: So for the Singapore - Sydney flight on 3 Jan 2024, I booked it some time in March 2023.

The Europe flights in Dec 2023 - I booked some time in May 2023.

              • @babipanggang: I see, so Virgin possibly better for peak times and Qantas for off peak. But book ahead either way (which is logical).

                • +1

@Ghost47: Probs I should also add that for the Sydney- Singapore flight, I flew in late November 2023 and I redeemed rewards business class flight on British Airways using QF points. Booked it in June 2023 (So approximately 5 months out).

    • +2

VA reward availability domestically is waaay better than QF. I have significant points with both carriers and couldn't give a stuff who I travel with domestically.

  • +5

    Good return,

Sounds like they hate churners though.

    • +4

yep if you have too many hits on credit file in last 12-18 months, unlikely you will get approved

      • +1

Do home loan enquires count too?

        • I am not sure but I had about 8 home loan enquiries in the past 12 months and I got rejected basically instantly on the phone with the credit assessor. No previous churning.

      • That's what happened to me, have had 2 cards on my credit file in the last 18 months and they said I was not approved due to my credit, 😞

        • Due to your credit score?

          • @nightelves: All they said was due to the credit information they received, my credit score is 880 soooo idk what else it could be

        • wow they considered people with two credit cards in 18 months as churner?

    • +6

They absolutely do, despite trying with excellent credit, no chance!

      • +2

Yep over 800 credit score here, more than adequate income/financials and got denied, can only put it down to churning.

        • Same here. Score closer to 900 and declined

        • Wow. That sucks. What cards have you applied and closed in the last few years?

          • @jecec: This would be my third in 12 months, probably 6 or 7 in the last 2 years. I have 4 i rotate frequently :D

            • +3

              @garvani: Which four are they?

I'm new to churning and wish I'd got this amex card first to hold as my daily driver. Worried I won't get one now

        • hmm i've churned like 4-5 cards in last 12 months, still got approved

  • Is it applicable to new customers only?

  • -6

Got the offer but ineligible I think as I got accepted the Centurion last year.

    • +3

      Flex much.

    • Oh wow! When?

    • Nobody cares

    • Where do you primarily spend to be accepted for Centurion?

      • 1) Work Travel - Reimbursed by my employer
        2) Rental utilities ect
        3) ATO CGT through Sniip ect

        • Don’t forget adult entertainment.

  • I have applied for this card today and submitted all required documents. What are the timeframes to receive card to Western suburbs of Melbourne?

    • +1

I ordered last Friday and got mine in the post today - East Melbourne

      • Did you receive the Phone call at all?

        • Ordered 3pm on Friday and phone call at 4pm telling me i need to upload payslips. Did that on Sat.

          • @mouseman99: Did your application asked for a credit limit you are applying for?

            • +1

@boq: It asked me if I wanted to select my own credit limit and I said no. I just let Amex decide

    • +1

Get ready for them to not reject you on the spot but send you a letter rejecting you some 2 weeks later. At least thats what i copped.

      • Yeah it’s very annoying when they do that.

  • +1

Any point applying again if I was recently rejected by Amex?

    • Probably not if your financial position hasn't changed. Even then I probably wouldn't do it due to the short space of time between credit card applications.

  • +16

Churners beware. High chances of rejection.

    • Thought Amex don't really reject much. Might give this a go will close my Suncorp bank tomorrow.

      • Similar offer on recent Amex Qantas Ultimate has received crazy amount of rejections (including mine) Looks for recent 120k amex qantas deal and you will see various rejected Ozbargainers!

      • +1

Can confirm the top comment. Recently applied through the Point Hacks offer last month and no luck, presumably due to churning (My most recent credit enquiry prior to Amex was in November 2023).

In the rejection letter, they only referred to 'credit check' even though I had excellent score and zero negative event.

    • Churner here, just approved for the Qantas offer no issues, maybe I got lucky

      • How many cards have you done last year?

        • 4 opened and closed in 2023

      • interesting. Somebody with 2 cards was rejected but you got approved. Did you put high expenses or a high credit limit?

        • I always put pretty much the lowest credit limit they offer.
Expenses were put at about 60% income

  • Seen heaps of doom and gloom about churners being rejected.

Any churners been approved and can share a success story?

    • Got 7 (+2 rejected) cards last year and closed 5 by the end, last had Amex in '22.
Not sure how much churning this is categorized as.

      • +1

Yeah I’ve had plenty - but not Amex since mid 2021, but given I churn maybe 5-6 a year, I’m wondering whether it’s worth bothering.

120k is tempting - only 19k off business anywhere in the world one way with partners.

        • You try then the rest of us will jump :)

      • 7 in one year?!! That seems like a LOT. I definitely wouldn’t consider that as “playing the long game.” You are definitely a big churner in the eyes of the banks.

      • were you approved?

        • me? yes
