      • Hi mate, may I ask how long did you wait last year after the rejection before you started applying for other cards?
I've just had my Amex application rejected, and this is the first time I got rejected since I started churning, so I'm not sure how long I'd need to wait.

        • This is my first Amex in 2 years

    • Got it fine. I churn about 2 new CC's a year

      • Can you tell me when was the last applied card?

  • +1

Isn't the 200k points, $275 annual fee deal better?

    • +3

      business card…

  • +2

Applied for AmEx recently, credit score >900, income mid $100ks, never churned credit cards before (had 2 previously, both open for a year with perfect repayments) and only had one other open card with a $2000 limit. Got rejected day after application… YMMV….

    • Ouch!

I have 2 (one is fee free for the life of the card so I will keep it as my bills card) and my other I use as an everyday spending card (earns more points and had a good signup bonus). Both have limits of $15k+.
I'd happily close the second card if I thought I'd be approved for this, but by the sounds of it they're super picky. Might just stay with what I have.

  • How is the availability of the complimentary free domestic flights? More or less like trying to redeem FF points, or worse?

  • Damn. Waited so long for better Amex deals and they all came after finally caving in at 90k lol =(

  • +3

Looks like I won’t bother trying.. I’m a hardcore churner, 6-7 annually. In addition, the pain of Amex not being accepted everywhere.. interest sake, what does 120k velocity get you in gift cards for Woolies?

    • If you sell the points, its 1200?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong

    • +1

Hey @seanmilts - when you churn cards, do you close one card before applying for another?
Or do you keep one open and apply for a new one with the intent of closing the first if being approved by the second, if this makes sense? (not sure approval of a card can be tied to the condition of closing another).

Reason I ask is that there's a pretty big risk that you might end up without a points earning card if you close one before applying for a second. I wouldn't want to be in this position!

      • I always have a card open that I use for the family expenses, then churn other cards on big spends like flights, holidays etc.. So I've always got one rolling. Works well if your wife/partner is into it also..

  • Thank you, searching in incognito mode worked for me.

  • What do people buy using amex cards? My CC spend per month is roughly $3.5K and wondering if i can move some of spending over to amex temporarily

  • -1

not 100K as the bonus 20k is taken as commissions by the partners

    WTF does this even mean?

  • +3

*** Warm Reminder for Credit Card Churning Ozbargainers ***

This card seems very high in rejection rate. Few people above earn decent income (>$100k), perfect repayment and good credit rating also got rejected. Please consider carefully.

    • Do you know what the min. income should be? Say someone who has never had a cc?

      • +1

For a card like this, it use to be around 70-75k. They don’t put a minimum salary anymore because anyone who got rejected with a higher salary will complain.

      • Same card but Qantas Deals is $35K minimum income, for a $3k card

      • +1

I'm on 68k and got accepted within the hour with a 25k limit. This will be my first cc.

      • +1

@tturtles I am only on 45K a year, have kids, and got approved.

        • Good to know! Thank you :)

        • Do they ask for a copy of your bank account or just payslips?

          • @tturtles: Payslips for the last three months or notice of assessment from the ATO

    • @AnyFurtherDiscount - I am only on 45K a year, have kids, and got approved.

    • +1

But if they reject then what? Can just move on right? One extra credit inquiry is not ideal, but not the end of a churner's world I assume?
      Am I missing something?

      • interested to know also.

  • What is best practice use of velocity points? Do folks convert them to KrisFlyer or something? What sort of points do you need to get to Europe and back?

    • no need to convert. just use Velocity. Its about 75,000 one way to Europe + taxes. Velocity has plenty of good options into Europe

  • Thanks OP , Just got approved in less than an Hour , Now let's book some holidays👍

    • whats your churn history?

      • Had an explorer card about 3 years ago and currently have a David Jones amex card .
        I haven't been a serial churner tbh.

    • Did you get 120k points? Do you have any direct link?
I tried multiple times the link in the deal and it's showing me 100k points only

      • The link I clicked definitely was 120k points . Infact clicking it again shows me 120k still.
I haven't had any confirmation in the approval emails about number of points etc.. So not sure .

        • Lucky you, I tried 3 different browsers in regular and private mode, but still no luck, it's showing 100k point for me

          • @hothot: Pm sent

          • @hothot: Me too all showed 100k.

Anyone has tips to see 120k?

            • @hohoisme: No luck so far, thanks to @starburstyellow who sent a link on PM, but it's same as on this deal and still showing 100k points to me

              • @hothot: @hothot and @hohoisme do you have another laptop or device that you have never really used for these sorts of things before? Sounds silly but I kept trying multiple times on my usual laptop and phone to no avail (incognito mode and different IP and no luck either). Ended up trying with another one and it was successful - and just got the approval this morning. It certainly was annoying though! Good luck!

  • I'm new to credit cards. Is this card worth getting? Is this a better deal than usual?

I'm also planning to get a home loan in maybe 1-2 years. Does having a credit card affect getting a loan?

    • I once had chat regarding this with a house broker, as per his advice if you have a cc with 10k limit it would lower your home loan credit limit by upto 30k, On the other hand he mentioned if you lower the cc limit for the time being when you intend to take the home loan it would not affect that much.

  • Can anyone tell me how quickly did you recieved the card after approval? was it quick or it took 5-7 Business days as mentioned?

    • I got approved on Tuesday, card arrived Friday.

      • that was quick, You must be based in Sydney or Melbourne I believe for it to be so quick?

  • i tried incognito in chrome and only 100k offer appeared for me. any other trips to get the 120k offer showing?

    • +1

I opened around 30 instances of incognito without any luck.

But then tried on my mobile and got it in first go. Different IP perhaps?

      • +1

        Funny you mentioned this,
I could only get the 100,000 to appear, I then tried using Express VPN changing to Brisbane location and then in incognito mode got the 120,000 offer to show
Going to wait until May to apply once I cancel current credit card given alot of people have been declined when holding other cards etc

        • Can confirm, using VPN + incognito mode works

      • thanks!! i just turned off my wifi and opened on my phone in incognito (safari) and worked! cheers

        • +1 did the same, turned wifi off in incognito (safari) and got the 120,000

  • Used Brave browser, then only I could get 120k offer to come up. Incognito in chrome didnt work for me

    • @nippy brave, chrome, firefox didnt work for me but edge did lol

    • Btw got the card delivered within 2 business days after getting approved.
      1st amex card
      100k + income
      Mortgage
Last card closed was citi prestige deal from Oz bargain aswell

  • Just thinking that , regardless of what appears when you visit the website , how do you know if they have assigned 100k or 120k to the application as my successful application email does not specify any amount that I will receive , Only that it was successful and that my card should arrive within 7 days .
Also if you have to wait 3 months and spent 3K to trigger it how can you be sure you will receive the full 120k points ?

    • Good point. I guess I will take a sceeenshot of the page showing 120k points along with my application just in case.

  • Hi all,

I saw the 120k bonus points last night and applied for it then. I got my approval this morning and when I opened the browser, I could only see the 100k bonus points. I called up to asked and was advised that the amount of bonus points you see is personalised (not sure how but yea). Their customer service is really good and told me to call back when I get my card to talk about the points discrepancy.

  • +1

I applied for the 100k points on 6/02/24, got approved next day. Saw this deal and called asking for it as I hadn't received my card or activated account. Call taker approved without having to show any links to deal or screenshots etc. Might have been lucky, but definitely worth a phone call for anyone in similar boat. Also, no on hold shit, got straight through!

    • Hi Corwin @CORWIN I applied as well and just called up today and they are honoring the additional 20K and asked for nothing either - they said once i meet the criteria spend and receive the 100K I need to call up and they will give me the additional 20K - was yours the same?

      • Yep, said they put a note on account. Gave me a reference number and said call when hit the 3k spend

        • @CORWIN same, hopefully will be ok once we call :) I have not received my card yet - so have not even activated, wonder if that is why.

  • Does Amex allow you to pay for things via BPay?

    • +1

No, but you can use something like Sniip - just make sure the processing surcharge vs. points tradeoff is one you're okay with.

  • +2

Messaging also works, they have added a note to my account

    • Did you ask for that after you received the card?

      • +1

        Yes

        • I tried that the other day, I was declined, said deals come and go and they couldn't do anything about it.

          • +1

@Jav79: Mine was within the 7 day window, so they applied it

  • Just got approved - 3k limit, I've done a bit of churning in the past and recently too. Seeing a lot of rejection stories so adding mine as a datapont for everyone. (And for a bit of hope)

I currently have the star alliance card, a st George plat card and a Bendigo card opened in the last half a year. Also have had a Citi prestige card for over a year.

Was almost sure I'd get rejected like everyone else, but surprise!

  • Closed a cba card in decemebr and applied for a st george and got rejected. Applied for amex last week and got it approved.

Got the card Friday. 3k limit. Home loan. No other cards.

    • How many cards did you churn through in the past 12 months?

      • 1 card

  • Question please! Never had an Amex card but I just got the velocity high flyer card in Nov, and recently just closed my other credit card with BOM. Is there a high chance of me getting knocked back?

    • FYI, applied for the card and got approved. I’ve churned 4 cards in the past 12months.

  • Does anyone have experience with booking the free flight.
and canceling the Amex card before the departure date?

Would there be any repercussions of canceling the card before flying?

    • yep should be fine as long as the flight is booked and tickets are issued

  • Applied last night called up today and was notified rejected. Churned about 3 CC last year, currently holding 2 CC with total limit of 7000, applied for 6k limit. Asked if there is possibility of review, told me to wait for letter and see what it says

  • Ok my experience totally different to others.

Applied Suncorp bank cc on 4/01/24 approved. Did minimum spend and got points earlier this month. Cancelled straight away 9/2/24 after paying off balance and transfered points. Applied amex last night and got confirmation approved today. 16/2/24. Prior to getting Amex only got a 15k Citi free for life and usual mortgage.

So unsure about comments about corners not getting approved. Last applied cards before Suncorp was Citi prestige 01/23.

    YMMV.

  • I saw the 120k offer when i connected to new zealand via NordVPN
tried connecting to brisbane or perth vpn but didn't see the 120k offer

This 120k points should stack with the 30k bonus points from the other deal right?

The first sentence on this deal is not clear

  • Applied last Sunday, got a message "we would review in X business days", nothing since then. Is it normal?

    • Same here then I got a letter in the mail that I wouldn't be abke to get it

      • got the letter of rejection today too. Weird thing they explain that's due to "credit check with Veda" - Veda is not a thing, it was bought by Equifax long time ago

        • Mine just said i wasn't eligible after 'overall assessment of my application'. Whatever that means

  • Applied for 120k bonus (after activating 30k bonus) on 18/2. Got an email for income verification instantly and submited same day. Received approved email and text on 19/2.
Does anyone know if you receive any emails to activate a digital version of the credit card to use before receiving the physical card?

    • +1

No, you have to wait for the physical card. (I rang and asked)

      • Darn. That's a bit annoying. Thanks very much

        • No worries - I'm in the same boat as you haha

    • How long did you wait until receiving the email for income verification?

      • +1

It's normally instant or couple of hrs..

        • Thank you.

I guess mine would get rejected in this case as no email asking for anything except for "We will notify you of the outcome within 5 - 10 business days."

      • Basically right after I submitted the application

  • If you don't get immediate approval does that usually mean a rejection?

    • I worried about this too for not getting instant approval but "We will notify you of the outcome within 5 - 10 business days."

      • My mate applied and was instantly approved, so not liking my chances lol

Last time I applied for an AMEX and got that same message. Received the rejection later after 2 weeks.

I have excellent credit score, never missed a repayment and in the mid 100k annual income, so not too sure what the issue is

        • Wow so seems like i will get rejected if this is the case.

Don't know how they instantly approved someone without verifying income or other information because the application doesn't require anything but just simply some expenses…

          • @hohoisme: I got the wait 5-10 business days and I got a call the next day to do an ID check and was then approved. No income verification needed. Only used Amex through work before.
