      Especially on your uncle!!

      • +2

That uncle always got an alibi.

  • Is this how the media get hold of people's criminal history or another way?

    • Tis one of the ways i would bet. Like that dna test for lineage.

    • No, this is for individuals, you can't get police checks of other people without their consent.

      • +4

the police hold this information about me without my consent

        • +2

Damn those criminals are nice giving consent to so many media outlets.

    • usually from a friendly copper

    • Seriously, no. They ring the Police Media Unit, who usually give them what they want (eventually).

Good to know if I am unknowingly a criminal lol.

Seems to be a few grammar errors on the page. Site has hits on virustotal scan.

  • +17

If I needed a police check, I would go straight to the issuing authority - in this case it's $47 from the AFP. Below zero interest in divulging any details to a site that a couple of virus checkers (including Webroot) have flagged.

    • i'm curious, why does AFP charge $47 for a NPC, whereas QLD police charge $66.50. surely they are the same thing.

    • +4

Sadly, I think even the AFP checks may have been outsourced to Converga, whilst your link does go to the afp.gov.au website, their link to 'Get a police check' takes you to https://afpnationalpolicechecks.converga.com.au and even the email address listed in the top right is @mail2.converga.com.au

Whilst I believe this is more than likely the genuine AFP service, it appears to be hosted through converga and even the email address looks dodgy!

I've seen more legitimate looking scams than the AFP check service converga site.

It's not hard to see why so many people are scammed online when the government don't even use trusted domains for email or security services.

Why would anyone apply for a government certificate via a private company?
That must be total scam and the fact their ABN (listed on their homepage) does not exist adds to the suspicion (well, it kinda exists, but they have a typo in there)

  • +6

dangerous. absolutely no reason not to go direct to police website for it…it's near instant as well.

  • Nope, this is noooooo deal at all. Where is the PII data going to end up?
Also they are charging for volunteer check.. F no. It's free for WWCC all over Aus.

Hack (/s) : Tell your prospective employer you're more than fine to have a police check done, if they want it. They can pay for it then lmao. I ain't (profanity) paying for a police check.

    • That's the only way it should ever be done.

I've had an employer pull the "we'll reimburse you" bullshit and dodge so hard I assumed they needed the cash.

It's such BS that you need to pay for anything like this in the first place. Guilty until proven innocent.

    • Grubs gonna grub

  • If you want to provide your employer a criminal history check, do so directly via the police only!!

Do not needlessly give your personal particulars to a private company.

  • No way. These companies are shady AF. They offer a free/reduced price service often at the expense of your data being sold to 3rd party marketing companies.

I was forced by my part time job recently to have my 3 year police check done and it was through Experian. They literally said that they would require me to submit about the equivalent of 300 points of ID, they wanted ALL my social media accounts and I had to take selfies of me holding each of these ID papers. They even went so far as to say that they would be performing a "credit check" on me as well and letting my employer know this information.

There was no mention of how long they keep your data and that once submitted, they have the right to sell my data to 3rd party marketing companies both here AND overseas. The list of shit they wanted and the fact that there was no clear idea of what they did with storing my data was worrying at best…

If any of these services are offering free or cheap police checks… YOU are the product. If you want a police check, get it done at your local police station, or better still, if your employer requires it, get them to pay for it.

Negging because these "police check" 3rd party are just just obscured marketing companies and data hoarders looking to sell your private and personal data.
