Bulova Lunar Pilot 96B251 Special Edition - 45mm w/ Sapphire $399 Delivered @ Starbuy

420

Edit: The fun's over, it's sold out now. Given that it's a special edition I doubt we'll see it back in stock anytime soon.

This is the full-size version of the Lunar Pilot that comes with two straps, black leather plus a nylon strap with a nubuck patch on it. Equal to the lowest prices seen last year, so I'm surprised Deepak has any left. And, before you ask…yes, it would look good on you. :)

I'm tempted to get one to go with my 96K111 Mini Lunar Pilot, which is such a nice watch. I really wish the 98A285 in titanium would go below $999, then I'd feel I could justify the extra expense for it.

Description copied from WN’s old write up:

This special edition is shipped with special Bulova packaging and includes an interchangeable nylon strap with a nubuck leather patch that commemorates the date of mission (DOM) as 08021971, a watch tool as well as a certificate of authenticity and a special edition watch booklet.

Buy it even if your wife is angry at you. She will still be angry but at least you will have a new watch

Misso: Is that a new watch

      A) uhm you look lovely today
      B) I won it.. in a truth telling contest.. two towns over
      C) look over there! A two headed monkey! *runs *
      D) this ? No I’ve had it for years, frankly I am a little disappointed that you don’t take more interest in this, one of my top 100 hobbies I pour money into!

I purchased a Tag CAH1213.BA0863 for Mrs Muzeeb in 2011. She thinks I paid full price so I have plenty of watch buying credit up my sleeves. That's a lot of SD1970's.

I'm working on Mrs. C. She's a fan of Longines (like me!) so I'm lining up a visit to their Melbourne boutique so we can try on some watches together. I also bought her a Tissot that was on special at Mazzucchelli's after Christmas, along with personal gift to myself, which I'm still waiting to arrive. That should buy me a bit of credit as well.

Misso: Is that a new watch

        E) launches into horology lecture… Why yes, I'm glad you asked! Did you know that this watch uses a quartz movement with a three-pronged crystal that features a vibrational frequency of 262.144kHz? That's a BPM 8 times higher than a normal quartz watch's 2-pronged crystal, giving this a silky-smooth, automatic-esque second hand sweep and boasting an accuracy of +/- 10 seconds a year versus the typical quartz watch's accuracy of +/- 15 seconds per month! The thing to remember is that the movement still actually "ticks" like a normal quartz analogue watch but it's such a rapid motion that it's imperceptible to the human eye…

… Misso quickly loses interest, reverts back to checking her phone, becomes distracted… mission accomplished. "Excellent Work 47, her suspicions have been neutralised, return the watch to the safehouse for now."

  • The special edition comes in a special box with a special booklet but is otherwise the same?

    • It also comes with two straps, which the comparable standard model 96A225 doesn't have. It's also currently $170 cheaper, too; the 96A225 has only been less once before in 2021.

    Unless it sells out

  • I've tried the Swatch Moonwatch and it's like a kid's watch made of plastic. This is the one to buy for similar budget

    • Not to mention don’t need to line up due to artificial supply/demand/hype

This is a fantastic chronograph and a really good deal if you can wear such a large watch. I wish I could but unfortunately this thing is a dinner plate.

  • I own this and love it … if I recall correctly it’s special edition and numbered, so there can’t be that many left.

  • is a quartz watch really worth $399?

    • Plenty of quartz grand seikos are definitely worth 10x that

    • is a quartz watch really worth $399?

      yes

Purely for the 262kHz quartz in this case

      • Indeed. I've had mine for nearly 6 months now and it's still bang-on time, never had to adjust it. My automatic watches, however….

  • Does anyone know why the mini is so much more expensive? Just demand?

  • This is a big watch, so if you're unsure, definitely recommend trying it on for size at your local Bulova dealer before purchase

  • If anyone is after the black 98A186 there is 1 available at Amazon Warehouse for… $386.27.
Condition - Used, very good. Comes repackaged.
